The dealer service manual shows cut the radiator support and there's some special bracket dealer item only to reattach the radiator support back together
To each his own. I removed the radiator and hood, jacked the vehicle up about three feet and placed jack stands underneath for support. Pulled the engine right out the front with no problem. And I just separated the trans, leaving it in the vehicle. BTW, my Astro is a 1992.
Great vid, thanks! How many hours did the whole job take you? I have a 2003 and am trying to figure out the best way to do it and how many hours it'll take. Not easy finding someone that has the hoist though.
Thanks Joe I drove a few of the GMC mini vans for running a Construction company in the metropolitan Washington D.C . Area mainly to haul tools and because it fit inmost parking garages plus my boss wanted me to have the AWD for snow days etc , my mechanic always told me they would have to drop the motor to replace it , now I see why of course they had 2 post lifts but he warned me the labor on the new motor was fairly high overall the vans were fairly good vehicles for what I had to do eventually I did wind up with a full-size GMC AWD V8 that really was a gas hog but I enjoyed the extra cargo area I personally drove Chevy trucks (3500Dually Diesels ) too and I was disappointed in GM always trying to cut costs by pennies on their vehicles by using the same items and engineering for years they knew would fail on those minivans I had to replace things like window regulators and the cast Aluminum door handles because in cold weather they just snapped off and cut the crap out of your hands ? really GM I’ve owned over 20 other vehicles and I never had to replace a Window regulator in any of those ,my 3500 I had to replace the battery cables two times because the first time I used OEM cables like a dumbass ? Again I never had to replace any other brands ? I did however relocate a battery in a British Sports Car into the trunk and made custom longer cables but that’s different
@@ridingdirty8897 What's a good price to get a fresh motor and transmission on a 2003 Astro Van v6 4.3 4sp? Must not be worth it when you see so many rolling chassis at the junk yard in great shape. Curious about price points on labor and total cost for having them rebuilt, vs buying rebuilt vs buy new crate engines.
@@ridingdirty8897 I got a quote from a shop that was listed on the Jasper website. They wanted $8500 to replace the engine. $5500 in labor which was absurd.

this is exactly what I needed to know. thank you. I'm just stealing the engine for my boat.. . so do it your way.

Nice shop and thanks for helping out folks 🙏🏽🙏🏾
This was awesome. Such a better way to get this done.
Do you still do engines

Did you have to remove the grill and bumper etc?
Exactly what I was trying to figure out. Took the front end apart and there is NO room to pull the engine out through the front..
My Facebook is Danny Higgins i have a picture of my red truck. Hit me up and i can show you that its no big deal
@@ridingdirty8897 Oh I believe you. I still dropped the frame LOL.
How much does something Like this cost to do? I found a 91 Astro I can buy cheap but I have no idea what the engine and tranny are like.
On mine, I cut the top cross member that the radiator was secured to pulled out the engine and welded it back after the replacement.
Can you put a new motor V8 in mine
With my luck, i will be about 500 miles from any place where I can do this when I need to do this.
Gm makes a kit so when you cut the top core support you can just bolt it back up. No way do i ever drop out the bottom lol.
Really? How many times have you pulled a motor out of an ASStro van?
@@junkyarddog7256 about 2 motor swaps a month. Doing one as i speek in a 2001

@@12vLife a new crate motor is much cheaper in the long run . my labor on a van is 600$ swapping motors
