California, Bay Area. Just did this Siemens 400amp meter load center combo, one 200 amp breaker with 30 spaces under it. + additional 200 amp built in disconnect slot $2900 3” rigid pipe $326 for a ten foot piece 400 mcm copper $624 Surge protector and breakers/fittings/weatherhead/ isolator/ ground intersystem bonding block, 1/0 ground wire, two rods Permit $624 Total was $5300 65 days altogether from the day I got the permit and first started emailing the power company to being done. Unheard of time frame. If you reply to emails with answers fast, you’ll get fast results.
Weve run into supply issues when doing some residential upgrades. For us to get a meter can was going to be about $1800. The homeowner called after the we got the permit and the power company gave it to him for free! They have a surplus to be able to supply them for new customers.
Would someone asking for a 400 amp service get an estimate for a 200 amp feed for the home and a "provisional" 200 amp for a future panel? My assumption an estimate would include 2x 200 amp panels when someone wants a 400 amp service, What are your thoughts?
Operating voltage from utility is typically single phase 240/120v for residential. The amperage determines the wire size. Operating voltage can vary depending on the application. This was a residential panel upgrade 400amp single phase 240/120v.
@@bluewireelectric6445 I am an electrician as well . I don’t residential although I recently changed out my panel at my house . I just thought most 400 amp residential were 3 phase .
