Saw one of these at Sky music the other week when I was getting my nephew his first guitar; also a Jackson! Felt the neck and immediately wanted to play it.
I played this guitar at Sweetwater yesterday… I loved it… but the quality control wasn’t great. The rout for the truss rod access wasn’t fully painted and the routing was messy. It was the same case for the routing for the bridge. And if you looked closely under the bridge, there was sawdust that was stuck to the paint. I really liked playing this guitar but couldn’t bring myself to want to buy it. This kind of quality control is unacceptable for $999usd. I’m sad to say it but Fender and Jackson need to up their game
@@RickHollis yeah it’s a bummer, Since Sweetwater has the feature of looking at your exact guitar before buying it I decided to see if it was just on the one I played in the store but according to those photos it seems like almost every guitar that they offer has these issues. I know since there is a truss rod cover it isn’t a big deal but for the bridge routing I would hope they would at least paint the whole thing. Not to bash this guitar at all tho, it’s amazing, just has some QC issues. Great review btw!
I bought this guitar used and it played great, but the 15th fret high e was catching the 16th fret. I checked the action after truss adjustment and it was low. Like 1/64”. Slight action raise and this guitar rips.
Hi Rick, thanks for the review, I have a question for this Jackson Mick Thomson model, for the tuning, this model is only built for drop tuning or still can keep in E standard tuning, I’m looking forward for your answer, thanks & have a nice day 😊
Question, my friend. How did you install that little neck cover piece with his signature on it? I have it, but I don't know how to put it on. It looks badass, and it will cover some paint imperfections in that end. I'm guessing just put it on place and screw it down? Let me know if you can please, thank you.
Love this thorough review of it. The look, the tone, the price: Amazing. How did you find the gloss finish on the back of the neck? I'm wondering how this guitar holds up in playability when it comes to soloing/shredding. Does the gloss make it tricky to do runs up the fretboard?
I could see the neck getting sticky for someone who has sweaty hands. For me, this guitar feels smooth to play when I solo/noodle. I'm an old school thrash/black/death metal type of guitar player so playing riffs constantly with this particular neck feels really good! Overall it's a very solid guitar dude!
I own one of these. The paint is so glossy. Th neck must have been polished twice as much too. Its the smoothest painted neck I've ever felt. It feels smoother then glass somehow lol. Whenever I pick this guitar up right after holding my jackson dinky with the bare maple neck, it always just feels feels so smooth. Yeah maybe a bare neck might feel more matte but you could possibly steel wool this paintjob for a different feel but I couldn't do it personally lol. I put the emg 81/85 with 9s tuned to E and I really like it but currently I am obsessing over the white 84 explorer..
Yo guys In this guitar I can find different pickups descriptions, some internet shops says that they're name is "Mick Thomson seymour duncan blackouts AHB-3S" and the other shops says "Mick Thomson seymour duncan blackouts EMTY" Are those two descriptions shows the exact same pickups? No matter what name is it, it's same pickups? EMTY = AHB-3S??? Please help me 😅 Greetings from Poland!
Confused how you have a truss rod cover? Cannot find any reference photos only for this model that has a truss rod cover! Neither the USA or Indonesian model seem to have it?
I normally play emgs and the blackouts are awesome. The emgs have a sharper sound and have more high end but the blackouts have more low end, the emgs cut through a mix and the blackouts sound fuller (not that the blackouts don’t cut through a mix) I really liked the neck pickup in this guitar for leads and cleans, I’d totally recommend these pickups from an emg perspective. I tried one in a store so I don’t 100% know what it would sound like with my rig but it sounded great with what I was playing in the store at the time, great feeling and sounding guitar!
@@maddoxmay611 just got the guitar a few weeks ago I actually like the blackouts better than the emgs after trying them with different amps thanks for your help
@@gravelrocks5588 I’ve never shopped at Zzounds but that sounds amazing to be able to return it if it’s not up to the player’s standards. I’ve been thinking about getting a charvel. I was talking to a guy earlier today and he had a brand new 2022 Charvel San-Dimas in Miami Blue. It might be a good alternative. I have too many choices and never enough money. 😂😂
How much? $2k? What denomination are we talking here? The American Custom Shop Mick Thomson, that he actually plays, run $2-$4k American. That model goes for like $899 new, used under $600. I think the carbon fiber one is above $5000

I've been waiting for this one! Definitely a beast.

Wow. Sorry to hear that the one you found wasn’t up to par. Mine is flawless. It pays to try some before buying it would seem.

It's perfectly fine to play in standard tuning. It came setup in regular concert pitch. Thanks for watching :)

I’m going to get this in matte black when I get a job

They are named both AHB-3 and EMTY, so they are the same pickups

It was in the little plastic bag with the Allen Keys. Blink and I would have missed it.
