Awww I love Richard. You can tell he cares for the contestants. I hope he knows that he still has people in the world that still love him. Hope he's happy wherever he is. ❤
Yes, but I really wonder about the cult of Richard. I mean, why is that? And it's not just the women, men choose him too, it's weird. And he's not always right, I'd say he's about 50/50. Charles Nelson Riley is more accurate, but he hardly ever gets picked for the heads up. Is it the British accent?
Kathy is truly one of the best and funniest contestants the show ever had. It's always interesting watching her facial expressions and somewhat high-strung personality. I wonder what she's doing today all these years later?...
He died on June 2, 2012 at age 79 of esophageal cancer. He lived only 3 weeks after being diagnosed. (This is according to IMDB) I always thought he was nice and sweet, too. I wish I could have been on the show, won the game, and given him a hug and a kiss. My mom couldn't stand him, though; she thought he was too "kissy-fied". My dad died of the same thing on June 9, 2014 at age 83.

19:19 That was so sweet of Kathy to offer as her parting words _"Oh, Janice - win. Go!"_ Evidently many of the potential contestants spend some time together backstage and you see them clap for one another from time to time, but this was direct encouragement to the new champion. Just lovely!
No fair with the Tarzan one. In the last episode she used the word gas as her answer. Gas is a general term and could even include gasoline. The judges allowed all kinds of different gases as acceptable matches. So a wild animal could be a lien, correct? Gene should’ve told her to be more specific
I think I figured out the judging: if the contestant uses a general term, any ‘star’ specific answer will match, but if a contestant uses a specific answer, then only a specific answer will match. But, I have been wrong before… 🤷♂️
This week our panel includes our regulars Brett and Richard, our fill-in regular Gary who is 4 for 5 in the H/H match, and familiar fill-in Joyce Bulifant who currently has a perfect record of 3 for 3 in the H/H match. Additionally, Patty Duke Astin is back. Her prior appearance saw her selected once, but not matching. Wild card this week is Ron Masak. The begins in the same mold as the prior six: the contestant chooses Richard, who happily scores his 85th H/H match. Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: TIE: Orson Bean - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 80% (4 wins in 5 attempts). Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Betty - 50% (15 wins in 30 attempts). Fannie - 46.7% (7 wins in 15 attempts). Charles - 45.7% (16 wins in 35 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Richard - 36.8% (85 wins in 231 attempts). Brett - 34.5% (10 wins in 29 attempts). Bert - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 446, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
@@helenlogsdon7822 I'm surprised she didn't weigh in, but nobody wants to hear what she has to say on the matter. Even if one doesn't like Richard for whatever reason, he doesn't deserve her abuse. Also, she insults contestants who try to win the Head-to-Head with him and has schadenfreude when they lose.
@@donaldleroy6502 some rule breaking that I saw on a recent PM episode was that a female contestant did not answer anything correctly in either audience match portion. Gene said they wanted to give her one more chance to win something. So they gave her another question and said she'd win $100 for each match with the panelists. She matched 5. Nice, but probably seemed unfair to the hundreds of others who walked away empty handed.
Years ago I dated a girl who was a part time hostess at a hotel restaurant. Next door was a bar. As I was waiting for her shift to end, I was close enough to hear a fellow ask her if the bar had a cover change. My girl looked at him - completely serious - and said "If you bring your own, there probably won't be one." I nearly fell in the floor, stifling laughter. She was completely in earnest with her remark. This girl Kathy reminds me of the girl I dated - ironically - who spelled her name Cathy.
I wouldn't have known the Robin Hood question either. Once I heard Maid Marion i just said doh! I knew that. Some questions dont age well or I'm getting forgetful! LoL
Well, it's interesting, this has happened several times with literary works, and it's almost always women who don't know who Robinson Crusoe was, or Captain Hook, etc. Now all of the writers on the show are males, and most of those stories were aimed and young male readers. Does this speak to the level of education for women at the time?
Yes, she is.... here is a picture of her from last year....... aged well.www.zimbio.com/photos/Joyce+Bulifant/4th+Annual+Roger+Neal+Oscar+Viewing+Dinner/2Hr6ZOqp2Yl
Funny episode, but I think it sets a record for slowest start. Today's first match between a celebrity and contestant in the regular game doesn't happen until 15:25!
It is important to know a bit of Anglo-American cultural references - since our history is SO influenced by England. But if you were educated in the public school system the only culture you'll know is Marxism.
Now, yes. Not so much in 1975, though the government school system has been collectivist since its beginnings, before Marxism was even a thing. In any case, however, schools are not the only suppliers of such culture, nor even the primary suppliers. Culture isn't culture unless it's endemic to a society rather than being relegated to formal schooling alone. We did have books, movies, and television. Not to mention parents telling bedtime stories that did not involve Heather having two mommies. I couldn't even begin to count the number of books, movies, tv shows, children's cartoons, etc. devoted just to Robin Hood or variations and parodies (such as "Rocket Robin Hood" and "When Things Were Rotten") available to kids growing up in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. The basic mythologies of Western culture -- from Aesop's Fables to Homer to Grimm's Fairy Tales to Robin Hood and King Arthur -- were widely available and progressives were not yet attempting to erase them. It seems unbelievable that Janice could be so clueless unless she was raised by wolves in some remote wilderness.

The funniest episodes back to back, Kathy was hilarious.

I liked her even when I was a kid. I loved her in the Helen Keller movie.

Joyce Bulifant is still alive! She looks as beautiful and gorgeous as ever! She has taken very good care of herself. one/11/24
Nobody was better than Richard Dawson at the poker face - thinking of a different answer - head fake, only to then blurt out the $5,000 correct match.
Duck Soup!
As a kid I loved playing Duck, DUCK, GOOSE. Can't believe it didn't come up.
Yea.
