The time switch was a horrible idea that showed how clueless CBS execs were. There's a reason the ratings were so high: MG attracted a huge number of people (especially teens) who tuned in to hear Gene banter with the celebs and make almost-off-color remarks. The move to 11 am killed the momentum and gave Richard another reason to leave.
CBS executives making a stupid programming decision (Firing John Amos on Good Times; David Groh on Rhoda; Putting NBA playoffs/Finals on tape delay; Losing NFL to FOX; Losing Michael Jordan to NBC)? Who saw that coming? 😏😏😏
The idea wasn't terrible. The idea was to bundle The Price is Right with MatchGame. That by itself wasn't a bad idea. TPIR was a daytime show and MG was a late afternoon show. Had CBS moved TPIR to the late afternoon lead in for for MG it might have been a great idea. Unfortunately MatchGame was moved to midmorning and lost much of its core audience. MG tried many things to prop up the rating but none of them brought the show back to the glory days.

Yes, and send ME with her. I would LOVE to go on another safari (ESPECIALLY with Brett. I always said she could've used a friend, and I would've so LOVED to have been that friend)
Here are the results from this week: Richard gave away the most money at a totalof $9,000. Patty Duke also gave away $250. Richard also won for the most matches at a total of 17. Betty matched 10 times, Nipsey amd Patty matched 9 times, and Brett and Charles matched 7 times.
My only thought was Kurt Russell (I'm sure he would have been #1 a couple of years later). It wasn't until I started the video that I even thought of Nipsey.
@lindathompson7010 Sally Field was the Flying Nun.Patty Duke was brilliant in the Miracle Worker and had a very popular show in the 60's called the c Patty Duke show. She starred in moves& TV and later married actor John Austin.
I hate to bring it up again, but why does it seem that Charles is so snippy all the time and in this episode he sounds like he gets really upset with Gene. And Gene is trying to p[lay it off like nothing is going on
Is there an episode where there’s _____(Name) and someone with the same last name is on the panel and the contestant picks that person first?? That would make the scenario even funnier IMO. Same thing happened in ‘75 where it was Fannie_____ and Fannie Flagg was on the panel that day but the contestant picked Joyce Bulifant first who gave the obvious answer of Flagg.
Also come to think of it I remember an episode I believe from ‘75 where it was Charles____ and Charles was picked first but gave a different answer. Brett was picked next and she responded with Nelson Reilly.
"Come on ________" with Bob Barker on the panel; to make the situation so much funnier and to damage Barker's ego, the contestant immediately chose Charles.
Betty was and still is great but she was never able to carry a show on her own...she only excelled when she was part of a funny group i.e., Golden Girls, Match Game, Mary Tyler Moore.
@Leesa_BrettSomersFanClub That's because you have as bad taste as Brett. CNR was OK. Brett, not so much. Her performance on this particular episode was especially horrendous.
Africans are fair game for humor so the question itself was fine, but yeah, what were the chances of it appearing on the same day there’s a black contestant _and_ panelist?! Damn! 😂
God bless Betty White. May she rest in peace.

Years later would be Kurt Russell. 🥰
Any blood joke seems to be a good excuse for Gene to do his Bela Lugosi impersonation.
The beginning of the end the move to mornings.
On those last questions, I can't count how many times I've "Aw"-ed right along with the audience, yet Richard matches the contestant!
