KC Flex ERA 4 Combo LED Off Road Light System Installed on our Jeep JT Gladiator

- It took the better part of a year for Cindy and I to finally get our hands on a set of KC Flex ERA 4 LED lights but I'm really glad that we waited because these things, are awesome! In fact, I wish we could have gotten 2 pairs, one in a combo beam and one in a spot but unfortunately, we were only able to get the combos. In any case, this video will show you just how easy they were to install on the EVO Quarter Pounder front bumper that we have on our Jeep JT Gladiator and have it wired up to our Switch Pros Switch System. Essentially, the same thing as connecting it to the factory auxiliary switch system.

Glad to hear you found the video to be helpful AND, I almost did that too. On the passenger side of your Jeep, it's the white wire with brown tracer that you want for that.

Hey. Something that I've done in the past if there are concerns for moisture being able to sneak in past some kind of heatshrink-capable thing is to put an excessive dab of hot glue in, then use a hot air heatgun to shrink the heatshrink around the hotglue and connector before the glue has fully cooled. Excess glue will ooze out as the glue heats back up again, but it'll form a nice, almost potted lump.
Obviously exercise judgment on stuff in the engine bay, don't use something with too low a melting point.

That comparison was really good. I'm waiting on delivery for a pair of the same lights for my front bumper, I will mount them under the bull bar on my JT-R. I was thinking of adding the KC Pro-6 Lightbar, but you might have convinced me to wait on that.. I've got a Rebel bed rack, so I've already bought a bunch of KC lights for it while we are camping, or night trail running, which we don't do much on purpose (I have kids that wheel with me). Night runs can be a bit freaky or disorienting for backseat passengers, they can't see anything and are just getting tossed all over the place.
Glad the comparison was helpful to you. As you can clearly see in the video, these lights can get the job done all by themselves for sure.
I don't like add-a-circuit clips, because in every instance in my high humidity coastal environment, they get corroded within a few years. I stopped using them over 10 years ago.

Like I say in the video, there are people out there who will disagree with what I chose to do. I live in Nevada and humidity or corrosion is not exactly something we see out here.
@@wayalife Please don't think I was being critical of your choice in your situation. I'm sure if I lived in an aired, non-coastal environment, I would use the same technique. I did for years with my CJ-5 back in the late 80's and learned from it. I just wanted to throw a coastal rainy man's experience for your viewers. I'm in the panhandle of Florida on the Gulf Coast.

Eddie and Cindy, thank you for another outstanding video. Two questions, first about the ERA 4 and ERA 3 - Looking for adding Bumper and Ditch lights to my gladiator. Should the stronger of two go front facing and then the other be the side lights. I do not have a cabover light bar at this time. ( this might be more of a forum question as well)
The other question is something I spotted thru the grill on the gladiator, is that an additional fluid cooler (steering or transmission)with the white frame around it.
Thank you again for the work you both produce and as someone stated earlier, "come for the jeep videos but stay thru the very end for the Ripley segment"
I would always add the stronger lights up front and on the bumper. Adding something like that to the a-pillars will cause too much glare on the hood.
Had purchased the KC Apollo 151 (halogen) and they were worthless. I just bought these to replace them. Can't wait til they come in!
Yeah, halogen anything can't really hold a candle to the new LEDs and these ERA 4s are truly amazing.

Even back in the 70's, KC lights were the envy of all my off-road friends. Wiring with my brother back in high school - Him: Cut the red wire. Me: OK, snip. Him: Oh wait! You cutting the factory wiring scared me.

I have no experience with the LP4s but I really am impressed with these KC lights. We actually had to dial the camera back to help capture what we were seeing and without blowing out the image.

Dumb questions here from a newbie. I’ve got a JLU Rubicon Wrangler with a factory steel bumper.
1. Any suggestion on a mounting bracket for these lights?
2. Any suggestions on how to secure the lights and a mounting bracket to keep thieves at bay? I don’t have an automated machine gun system and my pit bull hates sleeping outside at night. 🤪

Mopar has a couple options for their steel bumper. One is just light mount tabs that bolt onto the bumper and the other is the hoop you can buy. As far as security goes, KC sells bolts that require a special tool to secure them in place. Granted, nothing is bullet proof but it will make it harder for sticky fingers to take.
Outstanding job as usual. Can you share how do you keep your Gladiator engine clean. Your Gladiator looks like showroom. Honestly I want to keep mine like this without causing issue for the wires and anything under the hood. Thanks
The real key is to rinse the engine bay with water with every wash. To detail it, you can use WD40 and a rag to wipe everything down to a nice black finish.

The lumens out of those 4” cube ERA 4’s was quite shocking. Kind of like when Bose came out with their cube speakers in late 1980s.
No lie, I was totally surprised by them too.
Those things are awesome!! I may just replace my A-pillar cubes with a set of those! Depends though, I'm not looking to spend Baja Designs / Rigid money though. Hopefully, they are more reasonably priced.
These aren't the cheapest light but I personally feel they put out the kind of light that make it worth it. I could totally run with just them.

Would the bumper lights get in the way if you had to winch at an extreme angle. Love the videos. My only complaint is I don’t get enough of them.
Nope, the lights sit out of the way and above the path of the winch line and I'm not concerned by it. As far as videos go, I wish we had the kind of time to do more but as it is, we're just able to get the ones we do. Sorry.

Actually, it's the PSC ram assist cooler and it's been there for a couple of years now. The black paint on it has just faded away and so now you can see it. Glad you enjoyed the video.

This bracket will only work with the EVO Quarter Pounder. Mopar does make and sell a nice hoop that will allow you to install lights though. amzn.to/2YREPbC

Love the lights and install video!! One question I do have is, what is the buzzing noise when the Jeep is on accessory mode? I have a 3.6 JLU and it does it as well, I’m sure it’s been answered before but I can’t find an answer or where it is actually coming from.
It's coming from everything that uses electricity when the Jeep is running.

I have a 2021 Jeep Wrangler WILLYS (no lockers) and can afford changing only one (pricey) axle at this time to add electric lockers.
If it was you, would you rather have a front or rear one as a first to start with (the second one will be hopefully coming in few months - wife's approval pending 😁).

Well, I guess the real question that needs to be asked is, how big of a tire are you hoping to run? Perhaps, all you need is to install a set of lockers and NOT brand new axles.

Alright, AMAZING Video as always! I have the stock plastic rubicon (Jl) bumper still (with LEDs) - any recommendations for a metal bumper that will work with the factory LED fog lights? Once I do that, I'll have to buy a pair of these bad boys - ty!! :-)
LOD makes a nice steel bumper that will allow for the installation of the factory fogs.

There appears to be a Fairlead mounted light bracket you are mounting the lights on. Is that a part of the bumper or a separate item that can be purchased separately. if so do you have a link for it. Thanks love your videos
