After reading all of One Piece and watching it all as well, it's really nice to go back to Usopp's origin. He's just a normal guy who dreams of being great and brave! Aren't we all Usopp in a way?
That's one of the reasons Usopp is tied for my favorite character, the second one that is tied for favorite is he hoof shall not be named yet. xD I have always loved how Usopp is a normal person, the only thing super human about him is his marksmanship. He is otherwise like us, which makes him very brave to face and fight his enemies. His fights are some of the best in the anime. He's also very funny. I was waiting since the last upload for them to see that Zoro/Usopp combo attack. I loved it soo much, even though he is worn out, he was able to help save Kaya.
In the manga curiousities says that some people of the village was always on time at their jobs because of Usopp screaming that the pirates coming, all days at the same hour, always, an the day of the episode, everyone was waiting for him, and some of them got late that day...
I'm not sure where's it mentioned already but the reasons why the villagers go along with his act (scolding him every time) is because they know that he's lonely too 😢 I'm sure the kids' parents are secretly encouraging them to play with him too.
Kaya deciding to become a doctor, after recovering from depression and coming to know that it also took away Usopp's mother Banchina's life..quite a minor yet character's goal detail.
I remember one of you guys spotting “Island of Rare Animals” in the end credits of one of the live action episodes, so I couldn’t wait for this episode😂

AWW seeing you guys cry at Usopps backstory with his mom made me cry again too!!! It's so touching, Usopp is such a sweetheart and a wonderful person, I'm glad you two get to see the anime version of it!! The live action was really good, but I feel like you get to see how much people care about Usopp in his home town!! He really is a gem!!!
Gaimon protected the treasures that are in the island for 20 years, getting stucked in the chest, losing his crew, but only to find out the treasure chests are empty. But even so, what he got is freedom with a family of friends he spent time with all the time, that is the treasure that he protected all along! Kinda the same situation with Usopp who lies about "Pirates are here!" because he wishes for his dad to come back. He lost his mom, his dad didnt come back, but what he got are pirates who will make him free to explore the world and be the brave warrior of the sea!
That's Eichiro Odas Storytelling: Ruffy finding his mates in a situation where they have a dream but are unable to pursue it, since their past restrains them. After finding what holds them back, they can finally let go an pursue their dreams. It's a nice heroes story before the real journey starts, Oda has the talent to show that the real goal is the journey when you have the right company. ❤
To be fair to the East Bluers that probably named it that, it really is the island with the highest density of weird animals. Most other islands have a couple of weird animals, but we've never seen one with so many. Unless we include homies.
I absolutely love the subversion in Usopp's story. You'd expect resentment or hate or sadness over a father leaving. But both Usopp AND his mother didn't resent him at all. They love and respect him for going after his dream. I love that they showed Usopp's mom saying she loves his father and that Usopp should try to be brave just like him.
Usopp is my favorite character for a lot of reasons but one of them is definitely the fact that I never considered it could be possible for someone to be an honorable liar and Oda was basically like “hold my sake”
From here on out, the story gets like 10x better super fast And then never stops getting better. It never slows down, keeps evolving, getting more intensely emotional, fun/funny, creative Since you're already loving one piece so much, it becomes better, "more" in EVERY single possible way, until you realize its become your favorite series, It's so crazy. ❤ Can't wait to see how you like the coming stuff vs the live action, And then see how much you love everything going further than that! If you liked baratie and arlong park in the live action, both of the arcs ARE WAYYY more detailed, emotional, rich-- here in the anime
Baratie is still the slowest arc in the East Blue. But after that yeh I agree. Then it slows down RAPIDLY later after T again. Ho boy I also have to say I preferred Baratie in netflix over original.
@@DGSnowolf Imo syrup village is the slowest, but I see where you're coming from. Baratie in netflix follows the manga closer in some ways that make it better, and I think some of the adaptations they made were really good. That being said, when I was first watching the anime Baratie was where I first felt sucked into the entire show. Before that I was watching it because it was fun but didnt feel pressed to watch the next episode. But Baratie was what made it an addiction. I think the story is well done, the villain is scarier, and the send off was more emotional to me than previous arcs.
When I started watching One Piece around 10 years ago (yikes) I binged a lot through summer vacation and remember that I almost dropped it at Baratie and had to fight through it and only really got hooked after and only survived through Baratie cause I liked Syrup Village.@@mossicely

I always related to sanji more than usopp though so maybe that has something to do with it. Nowadays I appreciate both arcs and I think syrup village does have better stroytelling, but baratie is more interesting setting. Except for the Don Krieg fight. That shit is B O R I N G
@@DGSnowolf That's a fair opinion. I argue that Gin really set up sanjis character which is what really dragged out the battle. In hindsight it makes sense, but I completely see where anyone who finds Baratie slow is coming from.
You guys got it spot on! Like Usopp said in the earlier episodes (albeit as a joke), he brought a breath of excitement and fun to the boring village with his lies. They all knew he had lost his mother and probably realised he lied about pirates coming all the time out of loneliness or for attention, and they chose to indulge him by pretending to be annoyed and chasing him down. And now this has become an activity they all looked forward to.
there is a large group of One Piece fans who really hate Usopp because he's weak and a coward and I never understood those people. Usopp is easily the best character and if you hate him, that only shows me that you fundamentally misunderstand what One Piece is supposed to be about and what it's trying to say.
Watching your reactions I realize just how many details from each episode I still remember from first watching it roughly twenty years ago. And it all holds up just as well as I remember. Oda really took care putting all the pieces into place. Usopp's intro is fantastic, there's no way to not love him. And Gaimon's story is a parable in the Greek tradition, showing how your choices may not always lead you towards the goal you had in mind, but that it's up to you to make the best of the results you get from your choices.
Since this will only be in the manga Gaimon the sheltered son in the treasure box will be in a loving relationship with a surfer girl who got stuck in a barrel.
Oh you girls are so sweet. And I'm so happy that you're enjoying this series so much. I had really low expectations of the series until I watched the liveaction then I did a huge binge of the anime all the way up to catching up, it was so much better than I thought! And the writing just keeps getting better with every arc! I hope you never stop enjoying this series, the payoff is worth the length.
For who missed: Merry is basically shitsuji = sheep / hitsuji = butler so shitsuji + hitsuji = Merry XD About Usopp's arc, the original giving more and more detailed characterization than in live-action, for that reason many said that watching the original will worth more :3 Note: the EP 18 was supposed to be before the arc of Usopp, but there are not a big difference from the original beside that Usopp are present in this story and Gaimon still the fav character that Oda the author created XD

Yes this is the island of rare animals showed in LA map (this is not a spoiler so don't worry). A curiosity about this last episode, that also happened in manga, but sooner before Usopp presence and just with Nami and Luffy (Zoro kept sleeping at the boat), is that the only one episode completely avulse and without linking to any "arc".
There's been a lot of fan theories concerning Gaimon and that he foreshadows the nature of the One Piece somehow. Oda in an interview once said Gaimon was his favorite character.

Luffy finding the chest is my current favorite moment. Simply because Gaimon waited 20 years for those chests, and when Luffy goes up there, he tells him he will not throw them down. Initially, it seems like Luffy is being a moron or something, but then ocne the realization hits that they are empty, it makes sense why Luffy would lie to him. He didn’t want to break Gaimon's spirit by telling him. He wanted to let him figure it out so that the breakdown would be easier to process.
This was not cover in the anime, but in the manga there's a cover story featuring Gaimon (the chest guy) getting a girlfriend who also was stuck but in barrel instead of a chest.
You didn’t point this out so in case you missed it: the Flag Luffy draws in this is the flag Garp sees in the live action which confirms to him that Luffy really has gone and become a pirate for real
Now that you guys are a good way into the anime. If you watch the last episode of the live action you’ll understand the Easter they added with the music. Very nice touch
The Gaimon story-line was the first chapter I read of OnePiece after buying a random volume of Shonen Jump and it immediately hooked me on the series. Yeah, it’s a random, silly chapter (although with One Piece you never know if it will somehow become relevant again) but the character designs, stupid humour and promise of what was to come with the Grand Line sold me on this title.
aah good ol gaimon was cut from the live action. But I had no idea they out him between different arcs in the anime! In the manga we meet gaimon before syrup village so usopp never actually met gaimon in the cannon story.
episode 18 is legendary side story of one piece for me, that time you know Luffy is not just lovable silly character, but he has something that make you want to follow him and you cant wait what next his wisdom of act he about to do.

I missed the eye catchers in the live action, but it seems they new we would miss them. The different logo openings and the wanted posters upon introduction had a similar feel to them. They did what they could, and that's why they succeeded lol

By the way, the odd phrase that Luffy and Zoro use to describe Gaimon -- and which ticks him off so badly -- is the dub's attempt to translate an idiom. In Japanese, it's 'hako-iri' (箱入り) which literally means "in a box". The usual phrase "hako-iri musume" refers to a "pet daughter", a girl who's been pampered, spoiled and sheltered from the big bad world, often to her detriment. Here, though, since Gaimon is obviously male, our boys are calling him "hako-iri musuko", literally "a son in a box". Hope that helps!
I wish they kept more of the heartfelt parts of this episode in the live action version. Would of made Usopp even more likeable as a character I reckon.
Yeah, I'm curious how they're gonna make up for not giving Usopp as much as his origin. Will he get more in a later important arc? Will they flashback to him some more in S2? Or is he just gonna be a guy that only really makes sense to a manga/anime fan?

Glad you made it that far. I'm a grown up man ,probaly as old as you two combined, and following OP since it was released in Europe. Oda made me cry so many times ( Over "things" I cant talk about because of spoilers xD ). Trust me.. if you keep following Luffy and his crew on their journey you will sometimes think that Oda created One Piece only to destroy you mentally and emotionally. The further you go the more tissues you should have ready ^^

you probably wouldn't be able to lift them since their basically swords attached to your fingers they are either made out of iron or steel with the design they look like katana's which were a "light" 3~ pounds, that's for each finger and one thumb, combined with the sheer length it would be awkward and very difficult to use.
I know they only had so much to work with by just having 8 episodes, but I do wish Carrot, Pepper, and Onion had appeared in the live-action Fun fact: Eiichiro Oda, author of One Piece loves to draw animals so he must have had a lot of fun drawing the Island of Rare Animals chapters with all of those animal hybrids

aah good ol gaimon was cut from the live action. But I had no idea they out him between different arcs in the anime! In the manga we meet gaimon before syrup village so usopp never actually met gaimon in the cannon story.
episode 18 is legendary side story of one piece for me, that time you know Luffy is not just lovable silly character, but he has something that make you want to follow him and you cant wait what next his wisdom of act he about to do.

Oda loves animals! So expect a lot of it in the series. He draws a lot more of animals in the manga, in almost every cover.
I missed the eye catchers in the live action, but it seems they new we would miss them. The different logo openings and the wanted posters upon introduction had a similar feel to them. They did what they could, and that's why they succeeded lol

By the way, the odd phrase that Luffy and Zoro use to describe Gaimon -- and which ticks him off so badly -- is the dub's attempt to translate an idiom. In Japanese, it's 'hako-iri' (箱入り) which literally means "in a box". The usual phrase "hako-iri musume" refers to a "pet daughter", a girl who's been pampered, spoiled and sheltered from the big bad world, often to her detriment. Here, though, since Gaimon is obviously male, our boys are calling him "hako-iri musuko", literally "a son in a box".

I wish they kept more of the heartfelt parts of this episode in the live action version. Would of made Usopp even more likeable as a character I reckon.
Yeah, I'm curious how they're gonna make up for not giving Usopp as much as his origin. Will he get more in a later important arc? Will they flashback to him some more in S2? Or is he just gonna be a guy that only really makes sense to a manga/anime fan?

Glad you made it that far. I'm a grown up man ,probaly as old as you two combined, and following OP since it was released in Europe. Oda made me cry so many times ( Over "things" I cant talk about because of spoilers xD ). Trust me.. if you keep following Luffy and his crew on their journey you will sometimes think that Oda created One Piece only to destroy you mentally and emotionally.

you probably wouldn't be able to lift them since their basically swords attached to your fingers they are either made out of iron or steel with the design they look like katana's which were a "light" 3~ pounds, that's for each finger and one thumb, combined with the sheer length it would be awkward and very difficult to use.
Also some Kaya bush was in the Live Action.

Fun fact: Eiichiro Oda, author of One Piece loves to draw animals so he must have had a lot of fun drawing the Island of Rare Animals chapters with all of those animal hybrids
