@allie_ostrander looking at the US trials and the Mu situation a trials plus committee selection makes more sense. Top 2 at trials and the 3rd slot is decided by a selection committee with the default preference being the next highest place with the standard but allows for appeals like Mu

@@allie_ostrander Allie, you are a "Fontaine' of inspiration. We watch athletics not for just a 'winners pile on' ,
but to observe 'human spirit' . Pre came 4th at Munich, but it didnt matter... we all saw how he turned himself inside out.
And when we watch you race, we know you have left nothing in the tank. Your love of 'the craft of running' bursts out like light peeling out. Maintain the rage !

That was the fastest US Trials race of all time by a far margin and you got 7th in a big PR. While I understand that you technically “failed” to make the team, under no circumstances can that race, or this past season, be considered a failure. Anyone who thinks that (and especially anyone who takes the time to post it or comment to that effect) doesn’t know what it’s like to do hard things. Great season Allie, I still believe.

And almost nobody can be sure they're going to qualify for a super-elite event like the Olympics! That's why the trials are exciting! (Except for unusual cases where an athlete is head and shoulders above everyone else in their field, like Simone Biles in gymnastics.) You were solidly in the running and made a great showing.

When you run a PR in a final you literally did the best you have ever done when it mattered. Lots of talented people fold under pressure or over-train and run their worst times in a final. You didn't fold, quite the reverse. You just got beat by faster runners -this time. So, arch an eyebrow at the result, nod, and say to yourself, "Next time". Very proud of you, young lady.

You did absolutely amazing. Qualifying to the Olympic trials is an absolutely amazing accomplishment, one that such a small group of people can ever say they have done, and this was the 3rd time for you. Rockstar.
You have so many people behind you that are so proud of what you accomplished.

You are a true inspiration to athletes who dream of returning to compete at a high level. You've done it and it's so wonderful to see you racing and thriving. Thank you for your fantastic videos where you share your journey not only about running but about life, tackling challenges and overcoming obstacles. You are a thoughtful advocate and an incredibly talented athlete. Go Allie!!!

Allie, you are beyond remarkable! In deference to the "F" word on the title of this video, Fail.....oh absolutely not!!! You achieved great success by qualifying for the Olympic trials (which so very, very few ever do), making the Olympic final, and then running a PR in front of the world just after having COVID. That was awesome!
Moreover, you have built a foundation to be on our next Olympic team. You made incredible gains with strength and speed in a very short time frame. Think of how off the charts great you will be in 4 years, and all of the running adventures around the world that you are about to experience! That should make you smile more than your first cup of coffee in the morning!
Lastly, you aren't just a really wonderful person, but, a really, really, really wonderful person! Unfortunately some who communicate with you (per the message you shared at the start) are pretty disturbed and not very happy people. Instead of being encouraging to others, they seek to tear people down out of their own issues of self-esteem, so they don't feel so badly about themselves. One can only hope they will choose to be better and kinder.
Allie Ostrander.....from where you were three years ago to where you are now, that truly has been an incredible journey. I am glad that great enthusiasm for racing has returned after many years. With that, I leave you with my favorite quote, to "Follow your dreams and enjoy the trip", which is what you are doing so very well.
Congratulations Allie Ostrander, and all of us are excited for your journey of what is to come.
    Great wishes always.
    Randy

Love your attitude. Love your learning. In Formula 1 Motor Racing (where they have to design and build a new car each year) they always say "fail fast" - which is code for "start learning" as quickly as possible. In my family, we tell each other to "fail yourself successful". You've got this....whatever you decide to do. Refine, and go again.

I love how you said in your own comment area that the Olympic dream is over, for now. If anything, you can just keep working on the dream for the next Olympics. Just keep pushing yourself and becoming stronger!

I'm glad you have the mindset to be able to be proud of your performance-you should be! Running a PR and hitting the Olympic standard in the Trials final? You can't do much better than that. What a great foundation for 2028!

You have cemented you legacy as an elder in this sport and by extension American running culture. Time will reveal just how significant this experience has been for many. It’s the first time many of us have seen what it looks like to come out on the other side of the challenges life puts up. This process has created a record that will stand up well as time goes on. You have added to the cannon of quality experiences we should all point future youth towards when they come to this place in life. Thank you for the larger contribution you are making to our culture.🎉

The victories that you can celebrate from this experience (besides a PB!) are reclaiming the intrinsic motivation of doing something for the sheer love of it, and coming back even stronger after overcoming an ED. These are the things that will sustain you for the rest of your life and bring you continued joy and good health.
I can’t speak to whether they compare to an Olympic medal because I’ve never been anywhere near in contention for one, but I suspect the joy from that is fleeting at best compared to the lifelong benefits of becoming at ease with yourself and rediscovering your passion.

So proud of you, Allie. You didn't make it to the Olympics this time, and even though you considered it "a long shot," I'm sure you feel some disappointment. Of course success in running means different things to each of us runners. Most of us would be thrilled to have even a small part of your success, or Spencer's, for that matter. Like most competitive runners who have had success at any level, I once had big dreams, too. I got as far as earning a D1 NCAA scholarship, but I never had your talent, although I still understand your hunger for more. You're still in the race, and your dreams are still out there. With your talent, those dreams are still a possibility. Even if you make an Olympic team, you'll still want more. Steve Prefontaine once said, "If you are a runner you’re never completely satisfied unless you get a World’s Record." However, you constantly display the wisdom and maturity beyond your age to understand and accept that all you can do is give it all you have and enjoy every step along the way. Olympic team or not (and many of us fans believe you've got what it takes), continue to be proud of your accomplishments while still hungering and striving for more.

I saw a video of the trials and was like "oh wait, is Allie running?" I clicked on the video and started watching. I looked to the screen of the standings and saw "A Ostrander" at the bottom. My day was deflated. But then again, you made it to the freaking trials which is already beyond crazy. So, enjoy the experience and memories cuz you've experienced what others can only dream of.

You've nailed every process goal this season, and that's why youve gone from a fast season opener to your fastest time ever. Outcome goals are the uncontrollable things (which, sadly, British track athletes are currently having foisted upon them) and so while that was a lofty one, you did everything in your power to get towards that too.
