10 days post surgery..recovering well. I am a weight lifter, anyone has had the surgery and can lift again, I am willing to stick with light weights... of course after you fully recovered?? I am very passionate looking for answers.
Try searching that question through reddit. I've been reading and found a lot of success stories for individuals with this type of surgery that end up going back to the gym, but are more careful of course.
Read Back Mechanic by Stuart McGill, he is leading reasercher on spine injury and rehabilitation. Do 3 fast paced walking and big 3 when you are cleared by your doctor. Take small steps don't go hard at first

@@jake9849 hey my guy. Nope. Ain't doing surgery on my back, downsides and risks outweight all the other options. I did extensive rehab work, left some exercises out for life, and strenghtened my core 360 degrees. I also dropped some weight. I feel very good ! It barely hurts anymore.
@@kwlweapons I got L5 S1 microdiscectomy exactly two weeks ago, I am 21 and have had pretty severe sciatic nerve pain since January. I was unable to walk more than 10-15 minutes without needing to sit down or lay down, as well as unable to go for car rides longer than 30 mins pre op. I also was unable to stand up straight with both legs on the ground for the months leading up to surgery. (my left leg was stuck at an angle due to the nerve pain). Post op I have improved a solid amount in the two weeks, right after surgery I was standing up straight and walking much better, I have been doing a solid mix of getting up and walking around for 15 to 20 minutes every hour or so. I still have slight nerve pain but nothing near what I was experiencing pre op... My surgeon said this is normal for around 3 weeks after surgery because the nerve has been compressed by the disc for so long... I have been taking painkillers for around 3 months and have cut down to just a half at night time just for opioid withdrawals and to help me sleep. If you're experiencing something similar I would recommend the surgery. pain levels pre op were around a 6/10-7/10 at worst, and post op have been experiencing a 3/10 at worst. I am at the point where I don't even need any painkillers to deal with pain and get through my day. I am hoping to make a full recovery! @@fabulousnwuko5524 definitely experiences loss of muscles, before my injury i was around 140-145 pounds got to a low of around 120 and am still working to get my weight back up. I have a pretty low BMI so most of the weight I lost was muscle... I am now around 4 months post op and have gained back around 15 pounds, I still get slight nerve irritation when sitting down for too long. If you do decide to go with the surgery make sure you go with a reputable surgeon. I am from Chicago area and am in a pretty lucky situation so my parents were able to get me in with a very good surgeon here, and he does micro discectomy surgeries around 6 times a week. I have seen some people say the surgery made their back pain worse and i'm not sure exactly why that is but I would guess because of a less experienced surgeon or a more severe herniation.
@@fabulousnwuko5524 If you aren't able to get the surgery my best advice would be to make sure you're stretching a few times every single day, avoid lifting heavy objects, try to sleep and sit with good posture, and make sure you're getting good nutrients and good sleep. majority of disc herniations can heal on their own with the right care.
I have hernited disc Im almost bedridden for 4 months. Lost a job and my savings are gone. I wanna do the surgery but I’m too broke. This is so depressing.

That is really sad. I have been suffering from disc herniation for last 8 months and considering this operation but I dont want to do it because of the risky That comes with it. But its free for me. Edit its not really free but I live in Norway and health care is paid through taxation, so although its pretty high tax rate its worth when you get this kind of services for "free"
I’m going for microdiscectomy tomorrow on my L4L5 herniation. I was told it will be day surgery no hospital stay. I’m worried. How do I get home? Is it ok to ride on car?
@Mi Not so good actually, it’s been almost 3 weeks now. I still get sharp/acute pain on my left glute and left calf burning pain consistently. I don’t feel its normal post-op pain.I know most ppl find leg pain relieve right away or after 2 or 3 days. Since my herniation is paracentral L4L5 more to the left. They operated my left side, but now I feel the right hamstring and calf also tingling. Overall the body mobility is better than pre-op. I can walk almost the normal strides but haven’t start any activities. I find it’s too risky. A little pain meds still needed and sleep pills for anti-anxiety. Hope I will get better over time. It’s start getting depressing. What about u Are u getting a surgery or considering or u had a surgery done already?how do u feel?
@Mi wow I didn’t know you have been in pain for such a long time. I know surgery can also remove some bones/bone spurs that press the nerve. But surgery is always the last option. I wish you all the best for your treatment. Stay strong and positive.

Happened to me at 19 after a fall and I continued working construction for 2 years before it got really bad. Aslong as you limit your sitting and make sure you have good posture and listen to your body when it needs rest and sleeping properly you will last for a long time
Did you play alot of sports growing up?? My Herniated Disc happened to me my senior year of varsity basketball. I was 18. I couldn't miss the season as I was captain and our top scorer. So I played on a herniated disc for years. Even after high school and into college local tournaments back in 2012-13. I didn't get the diagnosis til 2015 and got the surgery in 2017. Back pain has been tough, especially after the surgery... I may have another messed up disc. Ever since my surgery, my backs been worse, so be careful... take care of your body! Rest as much as you can and eat well. I pray you get relived of your back pain. Believe me when I say, I understand your pain.... I'm 28.. take care and please be safe friend 🙏
I've had a recurrent herniated disc as well. It was my L4 and L5. Secondary x-rays confirmed it since my pain was back. Plus now my upper disc has been hurting now since I stated working out a little.
@@WindHashira thank you sir , I went to 3 doctors two of them told me to do surgery but the third told to not to,he told me if you did the surgery your lower back (L5 S1) will be always weak for your entire lifetime ,and it will reherniate easly.... He told me that those doctors only want money and dont care about your health.... He said : " even i can do the surgery easly but i wont because it does more harm than good.." He then prescribed me a treatement and said he will follow up on my health... iam very gratefull

Hello Doc, I've been so skeptical about surgery after having a recurrent sciatica with graduating pain over four months, I now make a decision to walk to my neurosurgeon confidently. This pain must come to an end coz it has denied me sleep.
DO IT!!!! The worst mistake I made was waiting too long to get this surgery. Get the surgery and you will IMMEDIATELY feel better. The longer you wait, the more likely you will lose muscle strength.
I was operated 4 weeks ago and I was doing great. But 2 day ago I lifted my infant and got a pop in the back. And this only getting worsened bye the day. Is this dangerous ore will it fix it self?
@@Sunil-wi4yw im still not at 100% but i get better werry slow. I still have to stratch mye back about 50 minuts every day. Or els its back on painkillers. But im hanging in there. Hope i soon can live a normal life again.
@@Sunil-wi4yw what happened was several years of hard physical labor. I work in fish farming in Norway. there is a lot of hard work in sub-zero temperatures. I have had dozens of prolapses over a period of about 5 years. but now it was so bad that I had surgery. I'm guessing that the reason it's healing late is that I had prolapse for too long before I had the operation. Should have taken care of it sooner. but I was so stupid that I went to a chiropractor instead of a doctor

70% of patients who undergo a micro-discectomy go on to get a fusion! When you cut or burn a portion of your disc you don't strengthen the disc, you weaken the disc! Micro-discectomy cuts away a part of the disc, the part that is protruding. Laser decompression surgery burns a portion of the disc, thus shrinking the disc. Both procedures involve further disc injury.

Why can't you seal the disc after removing the herniated material?
I’m guessing the disc will be like a flat tyre - the pulposus is removed.

how many revision surgeries one can have at the same index level, provided disc is healthy enough?
