I just absolutely love your channel… I just thought of this today; You’re like the Mr. Rogers of TH-cam. ❤️ So kind, so soft spoken, a gentle sense of humor & humility, always so incredibly educational. Thank you so much for being here. You always make me think & at the end of your videos, I’m always smiling. ♥️
I'm learning so much from you, thank you. Until I watched you I had no idea that I could draw directly onto my plate with pens (Posca, is what I'm using), nor did I know about oil resist. Your tutorials are so clear, generous, and inspiring. Love the background music, too--great addition.

Wonderful textures! You have some great ideas in this episode, just using common household products to create special effects. That's one of the great things about printmaking, such an open field for experiment. Thanks for sharing this one!
Fulton, I discovered your channel only a few days ago, and I love following your work process, as well as your calm way of presenting. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
Hi from Sweden! I have just recently discovered Gelli art and you. I really like your pedagogic and calm way of showing your art and how to make it. I learn a lot. Thank you very much.🙏
I have never heard of using vaseline and baby oil with acrylics. As long as there is no problem with acid in those products I can see where it creates great effects. I wonder how mineral oil would affect the paint? I am always concerned of acid content in paper like newspaper or magazine pages for mixed media, for example. And additive products to paint. These prints are beautiful. I too love Strathmore paper and just bought a big pad like yours.
Hello I am new to your channel. I really enjoyed watching you create. I like the idea of oil resist! Wow 🤩 But i have to Ask how you frame this work using oil and vaseline combo? Is this sametinget that Yellow over time? Do you seal this or protect it in some way?
Thanks so much! Customarily I give an arbitrary title for tracking purposes, then I mark 1/1 meaning it is one of a kind, then I sign my name with the year. The traditional way is to use pencil.
Love your videos and commentary. I'm always amazed at the finished results. I've noticed that when you pull the prints the gell plate sticks to the table top and doesn't pull up with the paper. Do you use any sort of adhesive to hold the plate down or is it just stickiness of the plate and the surface of the tabletop that makes the plate stick? Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much! My plate is well behaved and sticks to my table by itself, no adhesive needed. I will occasionally scrub the tabletop with soap and water to keep it clean.
Thank you very much for your great videos. Just a quick question: aren’t you worried with baby oil that the print isn’t archival or does the oil may do something to the color later on?
No not at all. I don't understand this obsession with the term "archival" I consulted a conservation company and they clearly stated on their website that the term "archival" is non-quantifiable and very arbitrary. How do you measure it with data/statistics? Do you have visual proof of degradation? Does this mean if it is not to arbitrary archival standards you should not make art? 🤔
@@artwhisperer88 in some instances it is important. For example if you work with resin, you might run into yellowing issues after a year, if you do not use the “right” resin. I come from photography and here again, you can run quickly into yellowing issues. Also, if using house paint in painting, they can flake easily. It is not an issue for experimental work but material does become an issue when working with galleries or selling work.
Please DO NOT lecture me on finshes. I have been doing conservation work for over 30 years and this is not the proper forum for this. Your examples have NOTHING to do with what I do. I want to encourage people to make art freely and make it more accessible
Its best to experiment with different paper depending on the image you are creating. When I do clean flat images with sharp lines I like to use a plate finish paper. In this case I like the rugged "toothy" look.
The magic about the resist you use is it doesn't wholly resist, but enough to transfer the visual of the shapes you draw, and provide interesting texture.
@@artwhisperer88 So, part of the reason the Baby Oil & Vaseline resist gives a "lacey" texture to the acrylic paint is due to the not-so-smooth texture of cold press watercolor paper?
@@cynthiakammann7368 Yes, the pebbly surface or tooth of the paper plays a role in that. I will experiment with smoother papers to see if the lacey effect is the same.
Thanks for sharing! ❤ @artwhisperer88 I have a lot of pastel paper. Do you think that can work? Different colors….some is Cason, 100g. (?orgsm?) How heavy/thick is the watercolor paper you use? I also have watercolor paper and want to try this technique. 😀

How do you make the oil resist?
I really like the oil resist. What is the ratio of oil to vasseline?
It's about 50/50 but you'll need to test it as everyone's conditions are different
@@artwhisperer88 thank you. I'm looking forward to trying it.
Hello ,how much vaseline for how much baby oil ,50/50 ?thanks a lot for sharing , i love your job !
not an exact science! just thick enough to cling to the plate.

Stunning. Could you please tell me the proportion of vaseline to oil?
this is not exact, about 1/3 vaseline to 2/3 oil you could make it more oil if it is too goopy. It should be thin enough to brush on.
@@artwhisperer88 thank you. You have taught me so much!
@@enricakita1 thanks for watching!

To the gelli, sorry for auto fill faults
