I was US ARMY stationed in Germany '84-'86 and got to attend this race with a few other fellow soldiers- pretty cool memory, what I can remember through the hefeweizen haze! Came home to NY in '87 and went to the MXDN at Unadilla. Went once more to Budd's Creek in '07, another great memory, with the USA winning all 3 that I was able to be at
Oh man just quintessential 1980’s!!!! So funny! This video is such a perfect portrayal of the time and of Europe at the time as well. The big hair girls, the hacky sack.... And how cool is it that Bailey, Ward and Lechien are numbers 1, 2, 3!!!!! Terrific video. Perfect!
Jeff Ward and Jeff Leisk,both on 250cc machines, recorded the fastest times in qualifying. But Leisk fractured his vertebrae (neck) and wouldn't race the event again until 1988.

Real MX. What we have now pales in comparison. Zero soul in the sport anymore. The production rule, Denise if the open class and advent of 4strokes ruined it
I don’t think Bailey and well……uh, Lechien definitely didn’t catch on why Jeff Ward took his hat off for all the National Anthems. Especially the United States National Anthem. I think Lechien was thinking about something else while talking with that young lady. 😂 We can call her that since it happened back in the 80’s, right? That the, them, they bullshit doesn’t apply to stuff that happened back in the 80’s, right?

It’s interesting to see the the different riding styles from a macro view. USA standing while many/most of the Europeans sitting
125, 250, 500 on the same track at the same time. I never did get it.
