I once worked with a single hand welder in the field who could consistently weld a row of dimes like a machine on pipe. His welds were flawless. Everyone was in awe of this guy.... came from some Island in the Pacific Ocean ....!
Funny thing is he’s got the motion backwards usually you hold the filler rod still and walk the cup as they say and move the tig gun back and worth cause the filler rod gets fused to the metal
reece beller yeah fr tho if you didn’t walk the tig gun around the welds wouldent look nearly like that and the metal would have holes all through it from burning through those tig gun get hot in a hurry
Sometimes your not allowed to walk the cup where I work cos the cup can scratch the part, and laying the wire in the joint means you normally have to choose a specific size filler for the joint
Himiona Te Whare your tungsten shouldent scratch metal cause ya know you have to hold it up above the metal and even if it did touch what’s the problem with having a little mark on a hot weld your just gonna brush it anyways
Dipping the rod is a very standard practice in welding. Walking the cup is generally used when welding pipe and not on fillet welds. Some places don’t even allow walking the cup because of scratch marks and high heat input due to the slow travel speed.

I've been wearing my yellow "welding glasses but they are fogging up and preventing a sight of vision, is this common in the field where glass dogs and visibility is minute or impossible to see?
I’m a welder and wow this is fascinating, this is nothing but pure CGI. Not to mention his weld is too cold because there was no penetration which means the metal was not fused together, all he did was melt metal and laid a beard. Anybody could do that with enough skill and repetition. Show me a real welder doing this getting plenty of penetration and a perfect uniform bead, and I’ll be impressed however, this was amazing to watch
High Frequency TIG probably on Stainless in a Upside down T probably around 58-68 on heat with 308e filler? Might of mistyped something correct me if I’m wrong 😎
I see some undercut. Additionally it looks like he should have used a heavier filler wire and perhaps a higher voltage. You can see by the luminescent degradation that the current was inverted rather than polarized at the endcaps. If he had used Merconium prep material on the base it would hold up better and not crumble. Also I made all of that up and have no clue how to weld.
Always interesting how wrong something can be but still look right that lighting is like a soft box and the light from the arc stops after a few mm even that "camera deflection" has sharp corners but still it looks pretty legit
the heat would be directed wayyyy harder toward the top of that if you actually wanted to see a bead that pretty and uniform going horizontal, would also be easier to achieve with a slight drag down as you travel as opposed to the side to side tick tok show.
That cgi probably took longer to make than just recording someone doing the actual weld.
