Re-Designing My Front Garden|Removing another Rose of Sharon and a Boxwood|Let’s add some colours!

I’m in the process of re-designing my front garden. Most of the plants I currently have a either evergreens or boxwood, all of which are GREEN in colours.
I’m planning to remove some older plants and replacing them with plants/shrubs that will add colour to the space.
I’d love any suggestions you may have! I’m in zone 6a. Thank you in advance!❤️

I have a Little Quick Fire Hydrangea. If you want to keep the blooms for winter structural interest, you should wait to prune your Quick Fire Hydrangea in late winter (around March) when the branches are bare. At that time, you can trim the branches to create the shape you want. If not, it's okay to prune in late Fall (around early Nov) when it's gone dormant.

You are welcome. On further study, I believe your hydrangea is a Pinky Winky but the same Fall to late Winter recommendations apply. Thanks for sharing your gardening with us this season.

If you cut down the Roses of Sharon it will grow back stems in the spring. You need to remove the full root system. Get some titanium shears to cut those roots.

I’ve drilled holes around the base of the trunks, as far down below ground level as possible. Hopefully over time it will rot🤞🏼. Many years ago we had 2 big fruit trees in the backyard that died on its own. The roots eventually rotted away. Hoping same thing will happen here:)
