Truly a man for all seasons-a real renaissance man. I’m a better person for listening to him speak.

This talk is one of my favorite, and one that continues to remind me no matter how difficult life can get, The Savior had it even more difficult and overcame it. There have been so many learning experiences in my life, but my most current experience has been the most refining in every aspect of my life. There will never be a doubt in my mind how much our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ loves me. Even when we are doing our best to be Christ-like, we will still go through trials that will cleanse us of any and all wordly form and refine us to be as much like the Savior as we could possibly be.

I first heard this talk on a cassette tape my husband bought me in Alaska. I was 32. I converted to the Church when I was 25. And I felt like every single thing He said was really for me personally. I cried for the joy of my own soul to hear the Truths Elder Maxwell is teaching here. This speach is one of the "pearls of precious price." I believe you will benefit from this each time you hear it. There's so very much to take away and help. Especially during this Pandemic!

Surely a prophetic talk, this is so our time!

This lecture is so relevant today with our current postmodernism ideology taking over our public universities and slowing overtaking American institutions. True Christian thought is unpopular today in our public schools in 2020🤔...

Thank you so much for posting this. I've got a hankering for Elder Maxwell's insights of late. During COVID-19 stay at home order, I chose to listen to all of Maxwell's talks from General Conference. I have to push pause and really think about sentences... he's absolutely a brilliant writer and speaker---profound!

Lately, Elder Maxwells talks resonate with me personally and with what is going on in the world today. He was and is very inspiring . I use his quotes a lot where I work. Even though those I work with have no idea who I am quoting. Quotes like: "Don't write a check with your words that your conduct won't ever cash." I strive to follow that counsel as well. Very brilliant writer!!! Thank you for your comment.

What a beautiful weaving of a warning of the coming secularism (which is upon us) while reminding us of our foreordination and that we were meant to be here for such a time.

Classic Maxwell. Such profound doctrines, so clearly and eloquently delivered. Each word is pregnant with meaning. Edifying. Powerful. So Divine.
There are 2 parts to this devotional. 1st Part: US Constitution, Secular Irreligion 2nd Part: Foreordination and Predestination. (Starts at 10.06)
" The combined doctrine of God’s foreknowledge and of foreordination is one of the doctrinal roads least traveled by, yet these clearly underline how very long and how perfectly God has loved us and known us with our individual needs and capacities."

Well it’s 2020, everything he said in this talk given in the 1970’s has come to pass, or is coming to pass at this time.

Many of our these speeches are from the archives of BYUtv and don’t go through the same editing process as our newer ones. If you watch our recent speeches, we do cut out the musical number and chorister even though we still have the footage. You’re welcome to skip through that part if you don’t like it, however, many people do. We hope you still enjoy our speeches and continue to watch.

Is it me or do a lot of more recent talks seem to be a bit dumbed down. Not to discredit any of the current apostles or general authorities but perhaps it says something about society nowadays.

I kind of agree. I have been listening/reading talks from Brigham Young time and they were pretty hard core. I kind of liked it... lol

I think one perspective is that the warnings have been told. I often think of the visit at Adam odi Omen when the prophets from the generations have to give an account. I love listening to different eras as well and their prophecy!

Maybe they are saying things for the future in a few years. Maybe we need more simple talk. For me personally, i have different modes depending on my circumstances. I mean when i feel like i am being stressed over nothing, i take things easy and would rather hear comforting gosple topics. Or sometimes I need a wake up call and i am greatful I got it.

I think a lot of it has to do with trends in society. I often watch old tv programs on TH-cam from long before I was born and the level of intelligence and discussion is miles above what it is today.
