This video needed to be an hour or more. It was a good video, but Bruce Myers is a very interesting guy and a great story teller. Especially when the subject that he's talking about has so much history.

Very brief but fascinating account of the legendary 935 K3 Le Mans 79 winning car and its 'larger-than-life' characterful owners. Paul Newman was 2nd place in the same race, and in a 935!!! A marketing dream, phenomenal auto quality, Hollywood superstar and the whole endurance racing package couldn't get more sexier and prestigious than that!

True. The nitrous boosted the 935 to over 1000hp. They brothers knew and helped them win.

      Hidden in the rocker panel.
It was addressed on Adam Carolla's podcast.
They confirmed it with an exmechanic when they found something peculiar in that area.

    • @marcussimo2004
      @marcussimo2004 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@dereks66 they didn't have the nitrous in the 79 le mans, they won it because it rained and they had a windshield wipers unlike every other car and they just had a lot of speed, the nitrous couldn't have been used during the race because as soon as it finished the car would die, it was only helpful in the Daytona 24hours qualifying where they used it on the banking and as soon as they crossed the line the car died because they engine just melted because it went from being 750hp to over 1000hp.

    American Speed.
A new motorsport movie coming soon.
    In 2026.
    What's Amercian Speed about?
It's about the true story of three brothers, Donald Whittington, Dale Whittington, and Bill Whittington who were three successful race car drivers from Texas during the late 70s and early 80s.
Two of the three Donald and Bill were part of a large group of racers charged with financing their professions through drug smuggling, money laundering, and tax evasion. Oops.
Donald and Bill received 18 month and 15 year prison sentences, respectively.
Their sentencing was due to charges related to conspiracy to smuggle marijuana into the United States from Colombia. Bam, bam!
Plot specifics have yet to be publicized, but American Speed will presumably focus on the brothers rise and fall within the racing industry.
Who is in the American Speed cast?
So far, Tom Holland and Austin Butler are the only names attached to the project. Excellent.
But given that the Whittingtons story involves three brothers, perhaps another A list name could join the cast in due time. Looking forward to it.
When will American Speed be released?
American Speed is slated for a January 2026 release.
What will be the release date for American Speed?
Amercian Speed will be released on either new years day or just after new years day. Only time will tell.
Will American Speed be the best movie of 2026?
    Yes, hell yes.
Will American Speed be the best motor racing movie ever?
    Yes, apparently so.
    Along with,
    Senna (2011),
Le Mans (1971), Starring Steve McQueen.
    Ford VS Ferrari (2019),
    Rush (2013),

Dan VS Dan (2024) starring Dan Colorado & Dan Dougherty.
    And finally,
    Turbo (2013) and Ferrari (2024)
    And last but not least,
Will American Speed get a Special Edition?
    Indeed, it will.
Featuring Cameron Greenwood Cramp AKA CGC and the usual people & stuff and characters.
What is the Whittington Brothers biggest achievement and best moment & greatest time?
Winning the 1979 Le Mans 24 Hours.
    Here's the full story.
The 1979 24 Hours Of Le Mans was one of the best runnings of the greatest race in the world and the best sporting event ever.
    Apart from the 1965, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1981, 1984, 1989, 1994 and 1995 editions of the Le Mans 24 Hours race.
It was also the best race of 1979.
Along with the 1979 Daytona 500, the 1979 Bathurst 1000, the 1979 British Motorcycle Grand Prix, the 1979 Indianapolis 500, and of course the 1979 French Grand Prix as well as the 1979 Daytona 24 Hours.
The Porsche team were the strong favourites to win Le Mans in 79.
Especially since there were no other major works cars that year too.
Their main competition would be from Cosworth powered Mirages and Rondeaus and a swarm of Group 5 and IMSA class Porsche 935s. Challenging.
The major big talking point was the presence of great Hollywood actor Paul Newman, driving for Dick Barbour Racing. Nice.
However, the Porsche 936s ran into problems early, as did the Mirages that inherited the lead. Oh dear.
The race became a duel between the 935s of the rival teams from Cologne: Kremer Racing and Gelo Sportswear. Much like Ford and Ferrari. Lovely.
Soon after midnight, heavy storms started sweeping the circuit. Yikes!
The rain stayed for virtually the rest of the race, dramatically slowing the pace, negating the speed of the 936s coming back through the field. Great.
Both Gelo cars retired with mechanical issues in the soggy dawn, and when the Bob Wollek and Hurley Haywood Porsche developed a bad misfire soon after it looked like the Kremer 935 of Klaus Ludwig and the Whittington brothers had the race covered. Grilling.
They had a lucky 13 lap lead over the Dick Barbour Porsche and the rest of the field too. Incredible.
Then, it happened, approaching 11am, Don Whittington came to a stop on the Mulsanne Straight with a broken drive belt. Crap.
It took 80 minutes to get back to the pits, and by the time they got back into the race their lead was down to only 4 laps. Gotta go fast, or apparently not go at all, LOL! Haha! Here!
But, the charging American team were foiled by a faulty wheel nut taking 23 minutes to fix. Oh no!
Then in the last hour, the car slowed with a bad misfire. Uh oh.
Stommelen pulled up just before the finish line and waited for the Kremer car to take the flag in victory. Yay!
The Kremer Brothers finest hour was sealed with their other team car coming home in third. 1st and 3rd 1-3. On the podium.
Porsche finished 1, 2, 3, 4, and the Kremer 935K3 was the first Le Mans win by a rear engined car. Awesome.
55 cars started the 1979 Le Mans 24 Hour race.
    But....
    Only 22 finished it. Wow.
The torrential rain in the second half of the 1979 race made it the slowest Le Mans since 1958. Oh well.
    Speed isn't everything.
I can't believe I just said that. LOL.
    Anyway....
    The End?
    For now,
    To be continued...
    In 2026, or 2025.
    :)
