Sure, people with money will buy it. Other people will wish they could buy one. You are right. It’s a niche vehicle that isn’t practical. However, it will create buzz for the VW brand. Thanks MM!
Thanks VW. Flashback to 35 years ago my brother & I borrowed dad's old VW camper for a (slowww) trip from Oregon down the coast to Ssnta Barbara for some camping & biking.

That's the way almost all EV "new" releases are going to be for the foreseeable future. The GM Ultium platform is as old or older. Audi's got four different EV architectures to support (or abandon) going forward. EV purchase looks like a minefield in all directions. Lucid might be the exception but I've only seen two of those in the wild.
Love everything about this... other than its missing an engine 😭It seems like the most fun vehicle for exploring and camping but the range would deter me
Putting out a sub-300-mile range car at this price point is a non-starter. Charging to 80% would put you at 190 range, throw in a bit of family and you are down to 150. Usable for a spin around the burbs but not much else. Any road trip would be stopping every couple of hours for what I would imagine a longish charge cycle compared to the average Tesla. Also built on the ID4 platform. Ouch. VW misses again
That garage you backed into is right down the street from my house. I saw one of the TH-camrs on the back roads testing. The van looks great in person. Too bad about the range.

We had the very first PT Cruiser sold in southwest Florida. You’da thought we had a beautiful naked woman on the hood by the amount of attention we received. Same thing happened when we bought the very first Macan S in southwest Florida. Fun times!
If there was a really good charging infrastructure i would buy one of these second hand given huge depreciation. i would not bother new but i think it could be a fun proposition. But obviously here we don´t have any reliable infrastructure so... forget it, let´s try again in 10 years time.
It's cool. It's 70k. Is this really worth it? Sure, for people who value MINI brand uniqueness, who like to stand out and who want to pay a hefty premium for aesthetics. This is MINI + Tesla circa 2016. Glad it's here. More choice is good.
Even the longer Buzz they brought to the USA is 5" shorter than my Maverick. Bring over the smaller one. Then chop off the back roof to make it a low-capability BEV commuter "trucklet" that screams "Yea, I'm a hippie.". Now drop the price ten grand or so. That's not far from the price of a loaded Maverick after accounting for state and federal tax credits.
230…. 230…. 230…… 😂. So on a road trip you will have to stop every 180 miles as opposed to say a Tesla with 300+ miles range can easily go another 100 miles more per charge, have faster charging and a similar sized battery. So this thing is super inefficient 😢. Sad because we were hoping to get it to replace our Aging Pacifica. But price and range make it not a viable option…. Well maybe a lease while they rework it into a real usable EV with a NACS port, 100 more miles range.
