Friday's Tip - Balancing Your Batches of Photographic Paper

  • Today's tip is all about perfecting your darkroom workflow and balancing all your different batches of photo printing paper. You might find bid differences between batches from different manufacturers and even differences between the same manufacturer. So, to speed up your workflow in the darkroom you can do this trick to balance them.

    Thank you so much for this! I thought I was going a wee bit crazy when different boxes of paper (even of the same type!) did not print the same!

    Thanks for the video! Two of the many things that I really enjoy about this paper: First, having the RC and fiber paper be so close makes it so much easier to do a fiber print from an RC test print. That has saved me a lot of time and made printing more enjoyable. Second, the variations from one box to another are quite small.

    Hi John surely the paper base is a different colour/density therefore would require a different exposure/grade setting?

      Yes, definitely grade. The different exposure is the speed of the emulsion.
