    Looks like a nice cassette deck. Know it to be a bottom of the line model but made intelligent choices about where to spend the money, basic functions but well constructed in the important places.

    I found one at Estate sale for $30 bucks. It turns on and plays, but sound is very low. I cleaned the head and pots. The VU meters work.

    Trevor, at 40:00 I didn't understand you showing the shut off mechanism. I understand how it works, but FF did not shut off and stalled the mechanism. So the belt that drives the worm-wheel was slipping ? Or did even the motor stall ? Could be that some secondes video has gone lost in the editing.
    And about de-magnetising: you don't always do it for the PB/R head alone, but all the steel and iron around there, like capstan, erase head, screws etc..

    Hi. First off, thank you for posting this. I've gone and bought one of these for USD 60 in India. Though it hasn't reached me as yet, as far as I can tell, it seems to be working alright if the video is to be trusted.
    Could you please let me know where I can buy a set of belts and pinch rollers from for the future?

    Trevor how do you know or set the azimuth on the head. Is it a spec and is a tool needed or did you do it by eyeball. I picked up this unit and I am going to be cleaning it and replacing the belts. (I did buy a puller).

    You have to get oil into the bearing, you do that with a vacuum for a few hours, oil in a bath and the bearings into the bath and then a vacuum, but before that they have to be cleaned, you do that with an ultrasonic bath to clean the small holes the oil located in, it is about 5-10% of the weight of the bearing that is oil from new. The model that was sold here in DK, which is similar to the one you are sitting with, had a metal position and not ferrochrome, funny that there is that difference between the models.

    Enjoyed the elec. motor rebuild, not too fond of this brand, FM Tuner (2600 Their upper end model) and they cut corners with quality in strange places.

    Hello, engineer, I opened this model to replace the belts, but I chose the 800 milliampere fuse, the fuel fuse was 1 ampere, the motor cycle was very slow, and the meters don't turn on, the end of our work, please guide me.

    Trevor .....part 2 on the hk? Or is it done and dusted? Im really not a fan of led mods. Looks cheeseball to me. I save belts when possible by boiling the kettle and letting them eat the heat while im working away. The rubber renew smell and chemical works great but make me want to puke and it lingers. I am surprised you have not been reported yet.

      Belt is on order for the ST-7 I will follow up with a part 2 sometime in the future.
      Don't be sniffing rubber renew, that stuff will give you brain cancer

    I guarantee you if you take that belt and you dunk it in a hot hot water and let it sit there for approximately 60 Seconds and you take it back out and let it cool down to the temperature of the room without helping it cooling down you don't want to flash quick with cold water just let it go cool down in room temperature the elasticity of the rubber will come back I've done that trick many a time when I was not able to get the right belt for the tape deck and that belt went on to work for several years more and did not break down as a matter of fact you can get this stuff called rubber restore liquid after you do the treatment of the belt with the hot water you take this stuff called rubber restore and you coat the belt with it and you let it dry and you put that on there and that belt will last you for years and this way you have a working tape deck while you're hunting for the right belt cuz a lot of times it's hard to find the right belt for the machine and then what happens is a lot of times these companies will go out of business and somebody else will come up and make those belts in the future and you'll be able to get a belt to fit your machine

    • @TrevorsBench
      @TrevorsBench  ปีที่แล้ว

      The belt was fine. It has enough traction to stall the motor.

    I don't understand why you would take the chance on possibly 40 year old belts to save 10$. If I was the customer, I would be upset that you took the whole thing apart and didn't replace them. They are eventually going to fail.
