This is my favorite film of the year so far. Not only is it a film that is so wildly entertaining and energetic it shouldn’t be legal, it’s also a very emotional and spiritual ride, and it’s also a film that is a piece of history and culture in itself by reinserting this chapter into the history books, 50+ years into the future
@Justin Fanning One questions why you would want to see a film about this music when you call the music bland. Did you not have some inclination as to what was going to be shown? If it's not your type of thing, why did you watch it? Do you just go to watch movies blind to any knowledge at all of its contents? Did you ever watch, say, 'Goodfellas' not knowing anything about the picture beforehand? This was a festival of a particular music attracting a particular audience. One is dying to say 'duh', but that would be disrespectful.
Just came back from seeing it, it was absolutely fantastic. Hard to imagine such a great roster of performances was ignored for 50 years. Nina Simone, 5th Dimension and Sly and the Family Stone in particular were amazing.
I watched it 2 days ago. It’s one of the best music documentaries I’ve ever seen.Very inspiring, very soulful, very thought provoking….it almost make you wish that you were actually there
Excellent film, especially the 5th Dimension and Sly and the Family Stone bits. Great musical performances all round (sorry guys, landing on the Moon was great though)
Saw this on Disney+ and it’s awesome. Not the biggest fan of a lot of the artists featured before the film started but the music just blew me away and couldn’t switch it off.
I was lukewarm on this. I wish they'd let the music speak more. No one could shut up for more than ten or twenty seconds. There's all these great performances with constant talking over the top telling us how we are supposed to feel about them, rather than letting us just feel.
I feel like I'm the only one in the world who didn't love it. I think the music is ofcourse masterful and the significance it has in the event is true but as a documentary there's not enough content to call it that. I would have much preferred if it was advertised as a concert recording because 75 percent of it is. I was left wanting to know more because the film had so little to tell and preferred to just show the event. I'm glad others can connect with it but it justb didnt do enough for me
I saw it. Fantastic. The performance footage was amazing. The Sly and Family Stone stuff blew my mind.
I have a desire to see more!

@Waxing Wampeter sorry, I will edit that. I meant “of the year so far”
@Justin Fanning im sorry i dont want to be confrontational and im open to other opinions, but did you miss the entire point?
@Justin Fanning
Top level trolling.

Wow! Mark's review has got me genuinely excited.

Incredible documentary. Totally worth watching. Just about flawless
If Questlove is directing I trust it to be great
best music doc ever?! omg i have to watch it!
Really want to see this.
Oh I cried and sang along and clapped and shouted and listened and bounced in my seat all through this amazing documentary!
stevie wonder at the post credits going “oh YOUR clothes? i bought them” was the perfect cherry on top
Music was at its peak in the late 60s on all sides really.
Seeing Stevie Wonder getting busy on the drums is one of the film's highlights.
Watched this today whilst that Amazon geezer was up in space. I am at peace with Harlem.

Questlove is a diamond
So only in a few cinemas for a week, and then onto Disney+.... So virtually hardly anyone will see it, which was the problem in the first place.
Yes, thanks to covid.
Saw this on Disney+ and it’s awesome. Not the biggest fan of a lot of the artists featured before the film started but the music just blew me away and couldn’t switch it off.
i had the good fortune of seeing this film in a theater. everyone applauded. definitely worth calling the best music doc ever
The 1971 music series documentary on Apple is brilliant too
Damn, I want to see this! But in Hong Kong it’s not in cinemas, none of the cable or online services have it, it’s not even on DVD!
Fantastic I loved it too - but no Gil Scott Heron?
I just watched it on Disney+ Tbh I teared up in places as I just found it so joyous and ..... soulful. Mark's bang on the money as always.
Saw it last night it’s great, I was crying tears of joy.
Couldn't agree more with all Mark expressed
saw it last night in Hackney - BRILLIANT!!!!!!
This sounds soooo awesome. I must see this.
I think Mark liked it.
My second-favorite movie of the year. I don't think it'll slide down the list, either.
What’s your number one?
@@alisaurus4224 "The Sparks Brothers." It's not out in the UK yet, but I saw it four times in the States.
Arguably the Black Woodstock was Wattstax
What's that?
UN - BE - LIEVE - ABLE!! 🔥🔥🔥💯💪🏾
Mark is right, this was a masterpiece of cinema. It's a travesty that this was covered up for so long.
Man...Marilyn McCoo's sooo friggin' good lookin'...i've been crushing on her since the solid gold days... 😍😍😘😘

Generally how documentaries work.
I enjoyed it.
Of all the clips you could show you show a fifth dimension one?
lol. Right?
