My favourite detective sidekick is Miss Della Street, the secretary of Perry Mason by E. S. Gardner. I enjoy their chemistry and how they can always rely on each other.
I'm not happy at all with the way this list came out. This might need to be redone. To think I didn't even have Della Street as an honorable mentions is terrible.
I don't know if you considered the Inspector Wexford books, but my favourite sidekick is Detective Inspector Mike Burden. In the early years, he was there with a strait-laced, conservative point of view to balance Wexford liberal views, and he only grew and deepened with time, both professionally and personally. To me, he is the rare realistic police officer, rather than an eccentric detective or a kooky sidekick.
I've read some of the Inspector Wexford books. I particularly like From Doon with Death. I have not read all of the books, however. Burden was on my shortlist but he wasn't too close to making it. He very well could move up if I get around to reading more of the books and, thus, see more of him.
I don’t care for the Agatha Troy in the series - on the screen the actress comes across as self-absorbed and condescending. She is comparable in some ways to the filmed Harriet Vane. The actress playing the part gives off so little joie de vivre. Sayres’ husband Arthur Fleming eventually became her bag boy.
Thanks for the list and I'm glad you didn't leave Archie Goodwin out! I really enjoyed his depiction in the 2001 TV series.
Thanks! If I redid this list, I would put Archie Goodwin #1.
Ms. Lemon in the series is sooo good and way more likable in the Suchet series! And she loves cats! 😻
I love Pauline Moran's Miss Lemon. The Miss Lemon in the books is a little lacking tbh.
Now if you excuse me, Summy, I’ll be writing a detective sidekick
I'm really enjoying your channel 😀 Thanks for another great video.
Thank you!

That's fair.
