helenwoodrum2383,for sure she would have roundly mocked for being naive enough to think she could expect an invitation. She knew they would “reach out “ to her for a handout, once they saw how she was living. She stood up for herself, and threw them out.

I agree, i mean if the parents from both sides wana help that’s great, , but ESP if u want an expensive wedding why should u expect someone else to pay for it?? And $300,000 for a Wedding come on now! Just my opinion! U can still have a beautiful wedding without all the high cost! And ESP if u want someone else to pay for it and it’s that much then u need to get some priorities straight somewhere!

I had second sister syndrome while I was in school. My only clothes were my sister's 'hand me downs'. My mother was obsessed with my sister and I was the 'hired hand' working in the barn, cleaning the stalls and hauling off the manure! When my sister married and we took her to the airport to travel to Germany where her Army hubby had just deployed and found housing for them. My mom cried like she had lost her only child. Then she turned her attentions to my little brother....and I continued cleaning stalls, got an allowance and had to buy my own clothes, my school lunches from $5 a week! Luckily my mom had bought my sis a whole new wardrobe for traveling to Germany
She tossed her old clothes. I got some nice clothes for a change...not worn out! Then mom announced we would be best friends "Since I just lost my daughter" NO, I was civil, respectful, and that was that....I didn't go with her, shop with her, or really visit with her because she was so wrapped up with my little brother...buying him pets, clothes, a shetland pony with a cart it could pull while he sat holding the reins.I graduated from high school with honors and no family came to my graduation, no gifts..unlike my sister's graduation when my mother had called all relatives to remind them to send gifts!' As soon as I had a job...I split!
Never went back.....wrote to my friends, but no communication to or from home!

My golden child wasn't even in my family!!!! I was 3 months younger than my parents best friends daughter. We were like boiling and water, but we were shoved together. Her mother would call up my mother and tell her about all of her achievements. My mother would turn around and tell me! I passed tge test to get in a private high school. She did not, but my fatger pulled some strings and she was admitted. I passed Subject A. She did not, but was waived through. Finally, in our 60's, shectold me she didn't want to talk to me anymore. I said fine, and it has been so peaceful. I turned 80 this year. If she is alive, so did she. I hope she is fine, but l am relieved not to have to pretend l am dumber than she is anymore!!!!!

I can commiserate. My little sister got the attention, the brand new car at 16 (I had gotten a used small motorcycle), and she got the big first wedding (she did have to pay for second and third). Being the oldest and male, I was expected to be independent, so I was always learning new skills. It worked in my favor in the end. 😊

So let me get this straight: Thomas’ parents are “old money” wealthy and he’s marrying the daughter of a small town cafe owner? Lol, yeah sure….they wouldn’t even move in the same social circles let alone be getting married. This is such a Cinderella fairy tale, lol!

@patricial.6758 oh I know! The sheer stupidity is outrageous. I'm a member of church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints. I was married in the Washington DC temple. It was free. A more beautiful venue is not available. I had my reception in our chapel recreation area. Again free. I was far away from my family so the ladies of the church helped with refreshments and I decorated my own cake. It had been a dream of mine for a long time. I still love those ladies and miss them dearly.

$300k for wedding, hell no. Even though I can afford it, I wouldn't spend such kind of money for a day on my children.
If they want such an extravagant wedding, then it is on them.
I'd rather buy them a house or even start a trust fund for them, which would help them in the long run, but never would I allow my children to be so spoiled.

EXACTLY!!!! Honestly our wedding Dec 19, 26 years ago was stunning, we didn’t want a lot of fancy stuff! We had a beautiful wedding with about 75 to 100 guest, my Mom did most of the finger foods, plus my gown cost $250, Publix had a gorgeous cake but unfortunately it wasn’t done in the middle so they offered our $$ back, served what was edible and went to the N Ga Mtns, it was perfect! We all had a great time! And all that mattered was we were happily married at the end and still going strong!😊😊🙏🙏

I object to her grand parents selling property for her college. I know they did it with love but she should have tried to figure out a way. Like not selling property. Getting a loan against it maybe. Property is actual dirt and mortar. I don’t blame her for not having anything to do with it. People now don’t seem to be able to figure out how to shut up about money.

I agree with some of that. But the entire point of having children is to create an environment where they can flourish and become the best they can be. Her grandparents likely saw this as money very well spent because Stella would make excellent use of the investment in her education, which would echo through future generations.

If your sister and her boyfriend are doing so well, why do they need money from you? They are your parents favorites and they could take care of your parents so there’s really nothing for you to do here. They don’t care about you at all. they just want to use you to support themselves and their stellar gorgeous wonderful golden child daughter. Your dad just can’t stop insulting you and neither can your mom turn down any request that they have move on and don’t look back. When they come crying to you to help them because your sister won’t or can’t do not be the bigger person, do not fall for the crocodile tears, do not go along to get along and do not fall for the guilt trip. comment on your mother‘s post put it all out there for everyone to see make sure everyone knows their friends the family their work people everyone the new in-laws oh yeah, make it well known that your parents treated you like crap and you’re treating the the grandparents like an ATM. Make sure everyone knows everyone.
