    Original Movie: Home Alone

The movie explains the family trip to Paris. Kate mentions it to Harry when he's dressed as a cop. Peter's brother Rob moved to Paris, but his kids still live in the U.S. to finish school. He misses his family, so he's giving the entire family a trip to Paris. After many viewings, I've worked out that Heather, the oldest, and the boy who was in Buzz's room are probably Uncle Rob's kids. Heather tells Harry that her parents live in Paris, and Buzz asks the other guy about French beaches. Also I figure the two of them are old enough to live alone in the U.S. while their parents live elsewhere. I think Frank has four kids: the two girls who say their parents are home but don't live there, plus Fuller and the youngest girl.

Sucks for Peter's brother. He's in another country across the Atlantic Ocean and he pays for his kids and extended family to fly over to him only for them to turn right back around to be back in the U.S. on Christmas. He took a hit to his heart and his wallet during this misadventure.

I also learned recently that John Candy was not paid any deserving amount for this role. He just did it out of the goodness of his own heart as a Christmas gift to the world. It’s because it started out as a cameo bit/ part that wasn’t supposed to go as far as it did, but this is what happened. He worked so well, they just kept filming him

Also they didn't think they could get John Williams to score the movie. Williams liked the idea of the movie so much that he scored it for a very low payment.
Edit: Looked it up. They weren't sure they could get Williams. They got him a rough cut of the movie and he loved it so much he agreed to score it. There was no mention of the fee.

The cast returned for Home Alone 2. For the third one, they went with a different family/cast, and the story was somewhat different. That one had a young Scarlet Johansson. The fourth movie was a made for TV sequel with a different cast playing the characters from the first two films. The fifth and sixth movies were stand-alone movies with no connection to any others in the franchise.
Regarding the danger of Kevin's Traps: There are a series of videos on TH-cam called Home Alone with Blood. They're edited clips from the movie, attempting to show the realistic outcome of some of Kevin's traps.

    Fun trivia from Home Alone:
    - Fuller (the little kid who has a reputation for wetting the bed) was played by Macaulay Culkin's real-life brother, Kieran Culkin.
    - Catherine O'Hara, who played the mom, still sends Macaulay a Christmas card every year, signed "Mom"!
    - The cast and crew for the movie had a very wholesome relationship with many of the people who lived in the neighborhood where the movie was being filmed. The owners of the house across the street from the one that served as the McCallister house in the film let the cast and crew rest in their basement while they were off duty. They were invited to the 90th birthday of another neighbor lady and Macaulay sang "Happy Birthday" to her.
    - The movie Kevin is initially scared by and later uses to trick the pizza guy and the burglars, "Angels with Filthy Souls", was created and filmed specifically for "Home Alone" rather than actually being an old gangster movie.
    - John Candy ad-libbed most of his lines, including the story of leaving a child in a funeral home.
    - The flooded basement scene was actually filmed in the swimming pool of a school located near the "Home Alone House".
    - Macaulay still has a scar on one of his fingers because Joe Pesci got a bit too carried away during one take of the "finger biting" scene and accidentally bit his finger a little too hard!

First, let me say Home Alone 2 NEEDS to happen, V. The amount of cool, fun cameos in that one alone make it worth it. And there's one that stands out from all the rest. You'll know it when you see it!
Secondly, the old man is my favorite character too. He's clearly alone in life, no mention of his wife who is probably passed away. His son seems to be the only child he ever had. But his sadness never became bitterness, it only ever made him long for what he had left. The parting shot of him walking into his place with his son, who is now married and with their little girl, is so immensely satisfying.
And the fact you can't see any of their faces actually makes it better. Their story could apply to any of us around this time of year. We should all strive to reconcile and come together for the holidays. Cause the world's just too full of lonely people waiting for the other person to make the first move.
With that said, I want to offer my heartfelt greetings to you. Merry Christmas!

Funny bit about Marv's scream with the tarantula, he could not actually scream on the take because they didn't want to scare the spider. 2:03 Let me point out a few details about this particular point in the film. We have _four_ adults and more than a dozen _kids._ They're all due to get on a plane to another country _early, tomorrow morning._ A little later, they send Kevin to sleep in a part of the house almost no one _ever_ has occasion to go under _normal_ circumstances, let alone during a rush.
But there's a fact _I_ didn't pick up on until embarrassingly recently. When they bed down for the night, _every_ single member of the household has their bags packed, except _Kevin._ Kevin does not have a specially designated place, by the front door, for his bags to sit until it's time to leave.
Thus, when morning comes and there's a rush, no one comes across any of Kevin's luggage, and accordingly, no one remembers to check the third _floor._
The luggage. That's the key. What's special about Kevin that he's the only member of this household whose _bags_ are not packed?

You’re correct VKunia! Catherine O’Hara was first best known and recognized from the movie Beetlejuice, then Home Alone and 2 Lost In New York, then Schitt’s Creek. This is definitely one of John Hughes’s best films ever produced and written even though Chris Colombus directed this 1990 Christmas classic. I also recommend such other Macaulay Culkin films such as Richie Rich, The Pagemaster, The Good Son, My Girl and Uncle Buck. Thirty three years later and this movie still holds up as a bona fide Christmas classic with one another decent movie and four crappy sequels. The true star of Home Alone is the soundtrack and idgaf who says or thinks otherwise. This was another gem that was composed and orchestrated by the legendary John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra who also scored tracks for the Indiana Jones franchise, Star Wars, E.T., Jaws, Schindler’s List, Jurassic Park, Fiddler On The Roof, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, Superman, The Fablemans, Harry Potter, Far And Away, Hook, Saving Private Ryan, Memoirs Of A Geisha, Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal, and so much more.

When Kevin encounters Old Man Marley, back when he thinks he's the shovel slayer, the musical cue that plays is called the Dies Irae. It's been used in most movies as essentially the theme for death. But when Kevin talks to Old Man Marley in the church, as he realizes who he really is, the choir begins playing Carol of the Bells, which features the exact same notes as the Dies Irae, but in a different context. Because that's exactly what's happening in that scene.

Fun Fact #1: When Harry almost hits Kevin with his fan and Kevin screams as it brakes, the footage of Kevin screaming is actually played backwards in which the van is in reverse.
Fun fact #2: Marv's actor didn't really scream when the tarantula was on his face. He only did a silent scream when they filmed that scene because he was worried his scream would scare the tarantula. So that added the real scream in later.
Fun fact #3: When Harry's actor bit into Macaulay Culkin's finger, he actually did it and it left a scar which was something he didn't mean to do.
Also, I laughed so hard at 23:25 the first time I saw this too just like you, VKunia.

You talking about murder attempts is amazing because Screen Junkies had a series where they were counting potential character deaths, and Harry and Marv should have died a total of 24 times over the two Home Alone movies they were in.

Fun fact this movie got a bunch of awards for its stunts mainly because the stuntmen were taking real falls and hits for some of the scenes most notably slipping on the cars and falling down stairs

FUN FACT: John Candy (Barf from "Spaceballs") shot all of his scenes in a full 24 hours without any sleep, never complained and just about all of his dialogue with Catherine O'Hara were made up on the spot.

Old Man Marley does not live in the flooded house. He most likely saw Marv and Harry chase Kevin there and showed up to save him. The kid who was miscounted as Kevin lives in that house with his family.

My paternal grandmother took me to the movie theater to see this movie when I was a child.
That was my introduction to Home Alone.

A holiday classic. It made every kid wanna be like Kevin, battling burglars with improvised traps and pulling mischievous pranks. Even the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis games were fun.
Many people like Home Alone 2, but I'm not so hot on it. You really get the sense that they're aware of the implausibility of it happening a second time, and it starts getting especially cartoonish.

It’s very common (at least to me) that if you are carpooling to the airport, that you would all sleep over in the same house the night before to ensure you all get going at the same time, and not be late. Which is what makes the fact that they all slept in so funny.

Macaulay got his own star on the walk of fame just last week. Catherine O'Hara (the mom) made a nice little speech at the presentation. Worth looking up.

so to give a bit of backstory (without spoilers) Kevin McCallister comes from a VERY and fairly wealthy large family...he has his parents, two brothers, two two sisters. Then he has his aunt and uncle who also have 5 kids. He also has a second aunt and uncle (but they don;t appear in this film they live somewhere else) and his oldest cousin is their daughter. Part of the reason for what happens in this film is due to the chaos of having a large family.
so yeah in total there are 5 kids in the main family, 5 cousins on one side and another older cousin on the other side.
LOL next flight back...around christmas...good luck XD
only the first two Home Alone's have kevin.

One is a classic, probably the only Christmas movie I’ve never heard nor criticized or not liked before. Two doesn’t have quite the “magic” the first does but it’s stands on its own. 3 would have been fun if the originals had never come out but it’s a case of who cares and why? Worth a “stormy day on cable nothing else to do” watch. The rest are just different flavors of bad up to offensive.
