What I like about this video is that it shows that for an average off road incursion a crv is more than enough! No X5, land rover ( Defender, range), probably not even the king of them all, the land cruiser! For just having fun, the crv serves the purpose more than enough and even if something bends or breaks, cheaper to fix. In fairness that's what honda thought when creating the crv: practical comfortable and with the necessary 4x4 capability for the average person to have fun. Cheers everyone!
I agree ! The CRV is really surprising. I have one and I used it in many situation. It never deceived me. It stick closer to the path, never slide, even in 7 inch of mud ! My best car ever, I love it !
I drive my 4 wheel drive 2002 Honda CRV, that I bought new, all over my 100 acre ranch. The traction is amazing. It still drives like new with 190,000 miles on it. Except for the catalytic converter and an axle seal, nothing had ever broke or needed repair. I thought I was crazy using it in rough terrain until I saw this video.
I am impressed with the CRV! I did not expected it to pass those tests! The driver pushed it hard! I own a Pathfinder and its decent but keeps on breaking on me. I need a smaller/reliable/capable/family SUV. A lifted 2006 CRV might just do the trick!
Have the diesel one now, had the petrol. Far more capable than most give them credit for with a decent set of tyres. I've done one trail in the petrol one and it climbed out of a deeper water filled gully than the pajero that was with us.
crv's will take you anywhere :D i have one exactly like this one and i've been driving it since i was little, you can learn so much in this beauty! this is the car i learned how to drive a manual in :DD
I'm the proud owner of a 1st get RD1 with a lowly b20, at least it's a 5speed awd. Love the 2nd gen with the K series tho, I'll pick one up someday when i scrap out my RD1 but until then, my CR-V continues to impress me.
The problem with the CRV is that the 4wd it s build based on the front wheels and you need to get into higher rpm s to engage it. As we can see in this video , yeh you can go throgh stuff but you really need to get on it and eventualy it is going to break (not the engine but the suspension etc ). I mean for what it is it s an awesome car ! (I have a 2004 4x4 one) but dont buy this and expect to go with your Jeep and Land Cruiser friends on the trails .
Is that the 2-stroke version?!! Mine does not sound like that! But awesome to see you putting it through the gauntlet. Gives me far more confidence I can keep mine a while longer and don’t need to upgrade to a full 4WD yet.
I justfinished reading a professinal review that says it's great for snowy and icy roads, but gets wobbly-kneed on anything more than a gravel road. LOL
@@mikecurtis889 it actually has AWD or at least one of those AWD systems that sends power to the rear when needed. It says "real-timeAWD" on the rear window.
@@urusledge Yes. I know it's has some form of AWD. I was observing that a small, nimble suv with good tires and adequate ground clearance can go many places. I was in fact agreeing with you. 👍

What kind of 4wd does this older version CR-V have? Trying to figure out if its visco = Most likely broken if i find an cheap older one today. Or how does it work?
The crv is front wheel drive until the front wheels start to slip, it will then engage the clutchpacks for the rear diff and allow it to send up to 50 percent of the power to the rear wheels. It only has open diffs. It is rather fast to auto engage though.

I have owned my 2nd gen CR-V for nearly 18 years and its an AAA++++ car, but this kind of off roading will break it.

Nope the CRV's doesn't have any 2-stroke version of them. I think he just change the header pipe or the muffler tip with the aftermarket ones.
