I'm gonna be honest I love the fact that Daisuke doesn't just add every fan demanded character. It feels like that every character added is a character that was apart of Daisuke's artistic vision and it shows in the amount of love that is put into every character's theme song. Like obviously I want Slayer, Johnny, and even Zappa but I would be so genuinely angry if they were added just because fans were demanding them to be added. I saw so many people DEMANDING that Testament never be added to this game and now Testament is one of the most stylish characters in Strive. I much prefer for these bizarre and forgotten characters to be added so they can get their time to shine. Like the fact that you can have a honest debate on whether Bedman is just a robot, or Romeo's soul is somehow still controlling the bed... Is objectively some of the best writing I've seen in Guilty Gear's history.
it's like ultrakill where it's a good thing the fans aren't getting to pick the DLC. if the fans were in charge they would instantly waste all the first DLC slots on characters like johnny, slayer, all the fan favourites and then have no idea what to do after they put the favourites in

It's so important to the life of a fighting game to not just cater to every single request. It's wholly unrealistic and like you said, would make the game too frontloaded on popular characters. It's also I feel, a fair bit entitled to act like what's popular or what "you" want speaks for what should be done. (Disclaimer: I'm not calling GekkoSquirrel entitled as a person and frankly everyone has slipped into habits that lean towards entitlement when it comes to fighting game discussion, I'm not exempting myself there.)
I have a friend who's two most requested characters were Sin and Bedman, and they're over the moon now over this. And every new character joining is a chance for them to be someone else's new favorite. Testament, Bridget, and Bedman(?) all drastically shot up for me in how much I like them after rejoining the roster, and Testament in particular is my new favorite Guilty Gear character. (Which is very impressive bc I didn't care much for them prior.) That's to say nothing of Bridget, who became so popular overnight after joining Strive that she boosted the game's sales to astronomical levels singlehandedly, something even fan favorites like Slayer probably couldn't have done.
I get that it's hard to *not* feel entitled when it comes to fighting game rosters because inherently having any stakes in who joins means there'll be some disappointment when it's someone you don't like, but I wish more people were considerate of other players and what's healthiest for the game before saying anything definitive. There's also the narrative side of things, where a character like Slayer would honestly feel pretty out of place thematically since he's such a static character in a game who's central theme is change and self acceptance. That doesn't mean I don't want Slayer to be here ever, but it does mean I understand prioritizing characters who have more relevance to the story, either through the larger narrative or through their own personal narratives.
I'm all for artistic expression, but don't be surprised when the game doesn't do well, because of it. Are Testament, Bridgette, and Bedman without the man selling season passes to new fans ? I'm gonna say no, and with SF6 on the horizon these are objectively bad decisions if you want to compete for people's attention 🤷🏾♂️
@@cmysharingan Bridget is literally the most popular Guilty Gear character at the moment, what are you talking about. The game saw astronomical sales increases when she dropped. Asuka was my number one most wanted character from the start but he absolutely will not cause the same level of explosive popularity for the game Bridget did
@@cmysharingan Testament is also incredibly popular at the moment within the fandom (thought doesn't reach as far beyond the fandom as Bridget did) and Bedman? has picked up a fair amount of steam due to their narrative and attention to detail. Any character can become popular, especially when even the most famous guilty gear characters prior like slayer or johnny were only popular within the fandom itself and not the wider public. strive is a whole different beast compared to the previous guilty gears due to the sheer difference in sales and it's far less objective to say which characters will do well. It's also a far smaller game than street fighter and was never in serious competition with it, its bar for success and sustainability is much lower than for street fighter and will remain so even after it launches

I don’t know why people didn’t expect this. They made detailed models for Baiken, Sin and Bedman? in the second story.

While I get the complaints about Delilah hanging out on screen, I think a huge part of the appeal of Bedman?'s flavor is Delilah's relation with the character.
I mean it also serves a gameplay purpose the point is that she's a distraction like people are acting like that's not tensional by the developers.

She's the only human voice the character produces though, whenever your burst, she says something.

I know Bedman was never a very popular character but can we talk about the lore of him (it?) now? It's adorable that the machine is protecting his sister even at the cost of its integrity but it's also a cruel twist of fate that Delilah is stuck with a mechanical shadow of her brother, constantly reminding her that he is no longer sleeping in that bed. Not only that but she also has to worry about her brother's machine being in constant berserk mode and trying its best to go out with a bang.
Oh and the theme song. The Circle is the only Guilty Gear song to make me cry so far

There's also a chance that Romeo's stuck in the backyard (or as how Zato would describe it: hell) and because of his intelligence, he is able to "possess" his bed. Then again, this is just a theory and the actual lore could go in a dozen directions, like bedman unironically being DEAD dead, and the bed acting independently. I mean this option isn't that likely considering his theme's lyrics, but then again the circle could be interpreted as the bed's programming instead of the backyard.

Bedman is literally my 2nd favorite GG character behind Faust. I was ECSTATIC when his trailer dropped, and I’m even happier that’s he’s super fun to play in Strive

I hate the notion that a character is a bad choice because they're unpopular. Every character will have a niche fanbase that genuinely likes em for one reason or another, and new people interested in Delilah (which I saw quite a few of), or people who ended up liking the new interpretation of Bed in Strive, so I hate hearing whining that 'oh this character doesnt have many fans so they should've just never brought em back." Especially when you fully admit to already getting a character, but she was ironically TOO popular to really "count."
Bedman's strive design (visually & gameplay) pushed me over the edge into buying Guilty Gear Strive. I've mained Faust in every other Guilty Gear game, but simply didn't like how Faust played in Strive, so I never bought the game. However, the introduction of Bedman changed that! I've had Strive for 2 weeks now and I adore Bedman's gameplay.
I believe that just because a character isn't for you, is niche, or isn't Top Tier, shouldn't justify instantly hating the character and complaining to the developers.
Ironically, there are cases where "popular" character picks, are ignored once they are actually added.
A Couple examples:
Baiken in Xrd (people like the design more, but hate the defensive playstyle)
Banjo in Smash (Not a Top Tier)
Ridely in Smash
I would love for the characters that are seen as popular to be added, however I believe the inclusion of more niece archetypes allows for people on the fence to give the game a chance. I just hate it when people complain about every new character that isn't thejr preferred pick.
About Delila's inclusion on screen...
Lore wise, I love it, it shows that Delila keeps wandering into these situations but Bed(man) is always there to keep her safe.
Gameplay wise, I think they could have done something similar to Lunalu in GBVS or Pokemon Trainer in Smash Ultimate. That way, she'd stay on screen and, in Lunalu's case, move along with the action to stay in frame but she wouldn't be covering Bedman?'s animations so much. Although, if Delila is in the background, it doesn't carry that same feeling of "Delila's in the middle of a dangerous fight and Bed needs to protect her while she herself dodges attacks" and more of a "go my trusty lackey, kick their ass!" which is kinda what Lunalu does in GBVS. Still, it could definitely be better.
But the thing is , Delilah has ZERO control over Bedman?
Honestly I love just how fucking messed up the beds animations are, like how it's basically doing it's best to fight with a fucked up, broken down frame, to the point that it's Dust attack is the bedsprings bursting out of the frame
The fight between Bedman, Venom, and Robo-Ky was such a meaningful scene to me that it instantly elevated all three characters into being my top favorite characters in the series. The furthering of poor Bedman’s story in Strive is just perfection. Like, Strive’s songs are all top tier but The Circle makes me want to cry. It’s funny… before Delilah showed up I didn’t even realize little Romeo is one of the youngest cast members. That was a lot to happen to a child.
Reminder that Delilah is older than Sin and his mom.

I don't see how "dying to robo-ky" is a downside. That entire fucking scene shows how much more if a character robo ky is more than just "what if man but funny robot" just because he isnt killed by any of the strongest characters in the series doesn't make him lesser.

Everyone I talk to who didn't want bedman REALLY didn't want Bedman and I honestly think it's pretty wild. Was he really that boring in xrd or is it really just extreme bias dismissing any character that isnt their most wanted?

It's not that he's that boring but there are choices that would make a greater number of people happy. Johnny, Slayer, Jam, Venom.
Bedman is niche and him coming out means a character they do want either takes longer or never comes.
in the GG Community, it's always the second option... As an example: Just look how many Slayer, Dizzy and Jhonny (or any chaarcter in general) mains were bitching because Sin was coming back to the game.

Personally bedmans been one of my favorite characters in xrd and I’m glad to have him in strive now even if his deja vu mechanic was changed alot.

I saw this tweet somewhere don’t remember where but I like the idea it had put out that Delilah being on screen is strive translating Xrd Bedmans more chaotic visual aspect over to this game.
Delilah just being there is a an animation masterpiece.
I was in the minority who actually really wanted the two. I’m not going to really play them for now because the game is having issues and I want to see more tech. But I think they’re sweet.
The Circle has been playing on repeat in my brain nonstop for like a week now, I can’t even listen to the rest of the soundtrack without goin “Bedman?, put me to sleep”

It's really just a small visual thing, but I still think it's a neat detail
yeah, you're not supposed to be able to see. with the slow, unsafe, or wacky moves, it makes it difficult for the opponent to do anything. then they throw in another character running around. she makes it hard for bed to see too, it FEELS like an intentional design choice, so much that i'd argue that mods removing delilah should be banned from online tourneys.

I think it's supposed to preserve Bedman's role as a knowledge check character, basically forcing the opponent to parse the visual noise or else get overwhelmed and not be able to respond correctly to gaps in Bedman?'s offense.

@@Jpeg_skeleton yes, a mod that significantly impacts the readability of moves should be banned. If it becomes a problem, they will either patch it or the meta will evolve around it. I wouldn't recommend playing with such a mod if you plan to play in a tournament, you'll be at a disadvantage.

actually bedman is my favorite gg character outside of faust so HELL YEAH
i didn't instantly try them, but i had recently come back to xrd and they quickly became one of my top 5 favorite fighting game characters ever. Would of prefered the kit stayed a bit more the same but honestly I like this inclusion even more then i would of wanted venom and thats saying something. I will agree that with its crazy pressure and animations it often does look like a whirring mass of metal just shredding you and its hard to tell whats going on.

Saying nobody wanted a character is just a dumb argument. It’s a popular game at least a minority would want the character. It’s a cool character either way so idc people who beg for asuka and characters like them have this kind of mentality.
i wanted slayer/johnny as much as the next guy but i was really excited when i saw bed was coming to the game, i love his design and i think hes really fun to play with a versatile gameplan. he can zone with 236p very well if your good at mindfucking the opponent with the follow up (and they always try to get it in via airdash so you can get a 6p and make them immediately want to uninstall) but he has an advancing low normal that cancels into ANOTHER advancing move being 236S so his tools for getting in arent bad either, and he can defend them with 236S follow up to keep up the pressure. really really fun character. this is all from the point of view of a casual player floor who averages floor 6-8 so at higher level play peoples opinions may differ from mine but i have a lot of fun with him. (also the circle is fire)
i have to agree though that the air dash does feel very clunky to use, but i think thats the point. its an 8 way air dash which is very useful you just have to be careful of when you use it, and while his dash and walk is very slow he makes up for it with an advancing normal and an advancing special and other ways to cover his offense.

It’s funny because the two characters I wanted the most were bedman and venom. I got one. I’m still maining Testament tho I think. Bedman seems awesome, but his setup/trap/zoner gameplay seems to be more rushdown focused now.
I dont even play GG but I'm looking at buying it because of Bedman, reminds me of Emil from NieR and I love him.
It’s weird, I’ve been a Leo main for a few months now but apart of me really wants to main Bedman. They are probably a way worse character than him but, they are just so cool and unique and I’ve been enjoying learning everything about them. As I crazy or just stupid? I’m not sure.
Nothing stupid about trying out different things to find out what character(s) you truly love even if they are "a worse character". Finding those characters who make a 2-hour session of playing feel like only 2 minutes because you are having so much fun is what it's all about. Tier list and character strength should never factor into your character choice unless you are competing for money and even then, playing someone who you actually enjoy using/most comfortable with may produce better results than just playing the best character in the game.

If Delilah isn't on screen the bed has no reason to be either. It's sole purpose is to protect Delilah.

I'll add some perspective to this and say that guilty gear gained a new fan literally over a character design that got me interested enough to play the game. I am new to the franchise but I mostly have bedman? to thank for my introduction.
The only thing I was asking for - Instant Kills. Because, they are one of the symbols of this franchise.
This is a 'cry about it' situation.
The better question is how that theme holds up 👀
I was kinda hoping it would just be Delilah herself. Or maybe Delilah with the bed as a puppet. I really like her character, and we saw in the story that she's decently powerful on her own. I guess I'll just have to wait for Asuka, and hope i like playing him. Otherwise, I'm sticking with Jack'O for the foreseeable future

Personally I think Delilah being there is a key part of the character, because bedman in xrd had a tonne of screen clutter that made it hard to tell what was going on and Delilah can allow for some of that confusion.
While i'm sad it's not Slayer(damn you daisuke give me back my main), i wish all Bedmains a very fun time.
i heard the theme song for bedman and i have a theory that upon dying he simply rejected the afterlife and chose to stay in the mortal world to protect his sister binding his soul to the bed allowing him to control it
Cluttering the animations is the point of the girl. Makes it a little harder to read it's moves.

Bedman is a character you could refer as he, she, it or they and they're all correct.
As someone who's never played GGS or seen many people play it, I just think Bedman is cool because he's a Bed man.
The install is actually pretty cracked & people gonna soon experience the terror. Just sucks the other super is slow, additionally I really doubt it’ll take long to figure Bedman out. Only reason is because servers suck

The error mechanic is a ton of fun imo, my only problem with it is how easy it is to lose because the moment Bed takes a hit the error is gone
Y’know, bedman? Is actually taking some Faust players. I’ve ran into a couple people I know that have moved off Faust to bedman? Prepare to see some wacky 1 tricks (or I guess 2 tricks now)
The best part is the addition of Bedman's Xrd theme. I don't mind his new theme, but I prefer the instrumental tracks.
I don't like that his Heavy Slash Super (The Boom) has very little range. Awesome for playing against Bedman, annoying for playing as Bedman. Canceling Crouch Heavy Slash (Bulldoze) in Super and the positioning being just wrong enough to get pitiful damage or the Super cancel dropping and coming out while they're invincible on the ground.
Also, give me Venom.
It's worth mentioning that his Install super can be comboed into, and out of. It strengthens the damage of his followups, and allows them to come out even if he gets hit out of the startup of 214P. AND the followups are UNBURSTABLE.

I do think Delilah should do more in gameplay, as you said it can be a stance character where you can pick up or drop delilah, while carrying delilah you have more guts but if you put down delilah you gain a lot of mobility at the down side that delilah is now the hurtbox. With different specials for each stance or have different properties like call 4B3 can either go forwards or to Delilah depending on whether she's on or not.
