    Us old people have been a part of the greatest movement ever, period. New, young, kids, coming in is a beautiful thing. It mean our values, ethics, morals, and peaceful way of life will continue when us old people are all gone. I was at this show. I cried about 5, 6, times, because the music was touching the core of my soul. Those I love and have lost visited me. The Great Spirit let me know all is well. Peace to all Brothers and Sisters

      We were there too. One of our fav Dead and Co shows. Drove in from Long Island, NY for this. We drove out the following year for their 2018 show at Blossom, and then onto Alpine Valley as well.

    It's good to see the younger faces in the crowd. A new generation is turning on to the magic. Be kind people. Indeed we'd love to have Jerry,....Mayer stepped into a very difficult position given who's spot he's covering. Hate to say it but it took balls. Lets all just enjoy the ride and harvest some new friends.

    I've watched every single live recording there is of Dead & Co, this is one of the best shows they ever did. That Big River Jam was ridiculous! John Mayer is a Living Legend!

      John is a parrot to Jerry. He is a good technical guitarist. but no improv skills.

    • @dsoundmann
      @dsoundmann 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree John is doing a great job the band is playing very well I will enjoy it more when John gets Improv a little better if he didn't have the potential to be absolutely amazing Bobby wouldn't have picked him he's one of the best blues guitarists alive once he learns Improv he will be amazing at this too, I will say I wish his tone was a little bit more versatile outside of that he's doing a fantastic job

    • @hockeyfiend4215
      @hockeyfiend4215 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Wow Patrick Philpott, take it easy, I gave the guy a compliment and said he was good technical guitarist. You are the only person allowed an opinion?
      Speaking of hate, you must have forgotten or never knew how "Dead Heads" actually are. Telling someone to fuck off because they don't completely agree with you is ignorant and childish. Not the way true "heads" ever were.
      For the record I saw 10 shows last year and did enjoy myself.

      Yea the comparison is getting old, for fuck sake, we all know who we would prefer to be playing with them... I don't know if i understand the "no improv skills"?? Never been a Mayer fan, but am a guitar player, and that comment is pretty ignorant. I guess they mean he has studied his licks? I prefer when the band playing the dead music sounds "somewhat" like what you are expecting to hear, but maybe that's just me...

    My first solo show at 22. I had seen this guys at Bonnaroo for the first time and was proven wrong that yes, John can still rock out even with these folks. But I had wanted to see any musician before it was too late, like I was fortunate enough to with Gregg Allman before he passed away, so I decided to go see this guys, motherless or not since mom didn't respond to my offer of riding along.
    True, enough, some of the tunes I heard this night I hadn't before, but my body was shaking and my mind was ecstatic. When I got home, the first thing I searched for was a tape of this show since that appeared to be a thing? I was just a newbie at the time. Found toaste's tape on archive, and since I had been stuck in Cuyahoga's entrance for the entire first set, I found that missing first set. Listening to the missing half, it filled my heart with tears of joy at how beautiful this music is. Since then, 5 more shows, and 4 tapes being slowly edited since July that I can't wait to share. All because of this show. Thanks, boys. Can't wait to hear more out of you in the years to come

    Was at this show and made the long solo drive over from Michigan. I had heard of the legendary Cuyahoga shows the Dead played there in the mid 80's and just had to go. This was a fabulous show and great venue. Still one of my favorites out of the many times I've seen DeadCo. NFA 💀🥀

    This is a treat for me. I saw many concerts at Blossom starting with their first year when I saw Ravi Shankar there. Absolutely transcendant. I was about 15 or 16 and had never experienced anything like that. I never saw the Dead there but saw many other icons of the sixties rock era. It is great to see the view from inside the pavilion to the people on the lawn. Thank you.

      Esspicaly in the summer after the college kids leave (no offense). I love boulder as much as any where I've ever been. It's really beautiful. At the foot of the mtns, Most people have hippy tendencies of some sort.. The days of the shows it was perfect weather. The football stadium is on the university campus which is conveniently located. Got there about an hr and 1/2 early and parked like 7 blocks away on the street. They let is have full shakedown on Campus. I saw a couple security singing along dancing. The vibes were that good. Legal weed, beautiful place, Perfect weather,, driving 10 mins to see some the best shows of summer tour. Dosent get much better then that

      I know. I'm with you there. I enjoyed the second set a lot. Then I went back and found Toaste's tape on archive of the entire show. This entire set made me weep, especially the Row Jimmy, audio and visual completely. The Hell in a Bucket full version is amazing of a guitar run up and down it's insane. It got me into taping, and so far I did 11/25/17, 6/20/18, 6/22/18, 6/23/18. It's been a fantastic run so far.

    non musicians don't realize the complexity and challange of what John has accomplished here..truly amazing. As long as they don't call it the Grateful Dead im satisfied...I didn't agree with the 50th anniversary shows calling it the Grateful Dead because without Jerry it is simply not the Grateful Dead. Bands need to know when to put the name to rest.

      When Jerry passed, I kinda swore off gong to any more shows. I did see that Further group once, and once with Warren. I did hear some shows, that I was close to, that sounded great. I was near Shoreline, at the begining of the month. Should have gone.
      Seems to me, that at the end of "The Grateful Dead". They made them turn the sound down low at Shoreline?
      Is that still the case?

  • @michaelpeterson279
    @michaelpeterson279 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    People who say Jerry was better guitar player clearly know nothing about guitar playing. Jerry would be the first to admit John Mayer is a far superior player than he. You can still love Jerry. It's ok. I do. But you don't need to delude yourself that he is a better guitarist. You won't have to give up your Jerry Garcia Loyalty Card or anything.

    • @rhlang11
      @rhlang11 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Since Jerry Garcia has past away, you would have no idea none whatsoever what Jerry would have thought re JM's guitar playing or who is the better player. Garcia was a genius and a thoughtful, curious and highly imaginative player that spoke a number of different languages or genres. His playing was often gorgeous and btw he invented this kind of music. In short, you have no idea what u r talking about.

      Hey now....no need to compare or create disharmony & piss off older heads eh?.......just enjoy the ride. So I read this in an interview with Mayer where he was talking about Garcia. He has great respect for Jerry and said this about his playing......"I don't know how he did it.....it would take 6 guitarists up there to duplicate what Jerry was doing". Bit of an exaggeration of course but you get the point. Jerry was one of a kind.

      Yeah. I saw that interview. Mayer has great respect for Jerry, as he should... Still, better than Jerry.

      Hey no problem....your entitled to your opinion but I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. At this stage of his development Mayer's playing reminds me a lot of Jerry in the 70's. So much fun & we are so lucky!! Peace on!

    Oh and Otiel is absolutely KILLING IT, as much as I miss Phil, Otiel is doing a FINE job, he is a great player but not my favorite by far and he was absolutely the right choice for this he's playing some of the best shows I've ever seen him play, very reminiscent of Phil, GREAT JOB OTIEL!!!

    • @mattflickinger8151
      @mattflickinger8151 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't some feel Phil plays too many notes? Like never settles in the pocket? Otiel doesn't give me that feeling. Like it....

    • @blakeepitts
      @blakeepitts 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      dsoundmann I'm really glad Mike Gordon didn't get the job. As a Phish fan, I just don't think his style works for GD music. Oteil, on the hand, is an absolutely phenomenal jazz and blues player and fits in sublimely well with this conglomeration, even carrying them often melodically.

    • @infraredruby2
      @infraredruby2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Phil does not play too many notes. He constructs long codas, unfurling in a fresh discover every trip up and down the neck. Otiel is a great bass player. He plays MORE notes than Phil, doesn't build the integral architecture of the Grateful Dead music that Phils bass lines created. He basically supports the music, as opposed to creating a large part of the actual musical structure. I agree that he is the best choice, because lots of people can be bass players, but no one can be Phil Lesh, who is a composer first, then an amazing musician who happens to do it on a bass guitar.

      There's no replacing Phil. He was the lower bookend to Jerry. His playing was sublime. You felt Phil as much as heard him and he gave the soundscape it's power. That said I love Otiel in this incarnation of the music.

      I think I would have to agree. I made a few shows in 2017 and they were all magical. It was early in DeadCo's run and part of me still couldnt believe it was even happening. Got to say though that perhaps the best show I've seen Deadco play was on their final tour at Wrigley. Then there was that show at Autzen.....2018? Man want a hot show that one was..... ;)

      For what it's worth, multiple sources (Blossom, Dead and Co social media) said to arrive at the gates early (I believe I read "at least 20 minutes") as there would be heightened security. We got there around 6:30 and got in by 7:10. It was a rough 40 minutes, but we didn't miss any music, and security wasn't going slow. I for one appreciated the security team's efforts. With the political climate we are in and disasters like in Manchester, they were doing their best to keep everyone safe, happy, and having a good time. Also...I always get to the gates early at any sold out show of this size...of course it's going to be a zoo getting in.

    Edit in: thre seems to be a fairly viscous clot of guiarists hanging, and you may notice what a FINE solo Mayer taked at 35:50 on "Big River." Yes, it's country, and new Nashville has probably overtaken Las Vegas as king of overhyped commericiality. BUT THAT STYLE IS REALLY HARD TO PLAY, man. Mayer is something, here. Many many moons ago I read that Eric Clapton was saying John's so good he doesn't even know how good he could be... "Your Body is a Wonderland?" Wot De Fock?!? It appears Clapton might know something after all. You just CAN'T play a solo like that without working really, really hard for quite some time. Garcia was a great one there too - Dick's Picks 10, "Mama Tried." He slaughtered it, ate it and used the bones to pick his teeth..
    I noticed this year that Bob has discovered that his interactons with Hoppy ofter seem to be feeding him little lines, and playing harmony licks. With Jerry it was oddly-voiced suspended chords (he had a the best grasp of the 6/9 moves that I've ever heard outside of R&B). Bob especially liked contrary way-off-beat rhythmic ideas. But dog nabbems, BOB WEIR PLAYED A GUITAR SOLO in Big River. And a flock of pigs just flew by! Bob has GOT to be in heaven. You see it with Bill Kreutzmann too - he alternates between blissed out joy and a few tears. And, WE ARE JUST AS LUCKY! I never would've dreamed this four years ago.
    *_BOB WEIR played a guitar solo!!!!_* And I STRONGLY suspect the "real" Strat that Bob's playing is the 1964 one on loan from John. It was confusing Hoppy because he just designed a MEGA-buck custom Paul Reed Smith. And he liked the old Strat better.

      @deadreckoning6288 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed......I never thought it would come around like this again. We are damn lucky & I'm sure as hell enjoying the ride!! I've shed more than a few tears on these last couple of tours.
