Ok not even sure you have the tools to do this but watching this video awesome by the way. But what if you could get more old blue prints and remake them like this one. I know I'd watch but I love your channel so.
Yes! This is so good, I love it! To be a real pro with this tool, one would know precisely how many taps it would take to chop dovetails, while simultaneously setting the plane iron to plane them flush later.
yes, as he was demonstrating it I realized the issue with adding a sharp blade to the tip of something you forcefully jab forward that often gives unexpectedly. I'm saying I think someone is going to get stabbed with the chisel while planing something and someone is also going to slice their hand open on the place while chiseling something. You would need to remove the other tool while using it or at the very least put covers on the blades. HTR should put out a part 1.5 where he makes the covers, they would help for storage too.
I can just imagine HTR sitting in a leather armchair beside a fire, bookshelves lining the wall behind him, "smoking" a toy pipe blowing bubbles whilst talking about weird and wonderful tools
@@xanderfuchsbichler3206 like those videos meant to be background loops such as Nick Offerman by the fireplace sipping scotch, or the guy who plays Jesus Christ having a glass of wine. :-D

This will always be my favorite restoration (and recreation) channel on the Tube. Not only do you get amazing content, but you get the quirky sense of humor that goes along with it! Simply top-notch all around! I would love to see more of this type of content!
I think you should release a “holiday fireplace video” just 8 hours of the mini fireplace with holiday music playing, maybe have the wrench sitting in a little rocking chair in front of it. Great job.
Your channel has me looking at stuff differently now. Whenever I see something old, that's been put out to pasture, I find myself wondering if maybe I could rescue it! I've never restored anything before, but you make it look so enjoyable. Thank you
BEAUTIFUL! Yours is much nicer than the original. It was a pleasure to see you finally giving the wood chisels some respect; using them for jobs other than removing paint off old castings. (I'm a retired carpenter)
That's a beautiful tool you made. Although it looked like you were trying really hard to get that piece of Brazilian cherry pregnant while you used that plane float.
I love how well you blend the use of tools with hand work, always results in amazing works when you know both how and when to use tools properly and how and when to do something by hand.
That was really pleasant to watch, also the fact that you were able to find the actual tool, wow! Pretty damn close to the real one. Thank you for taking time to film, edit and post this video.
The invention appears to be a bit of a solution in search of a problem, or an example of new invention that consists of combining two existing inventions, and almost invariably ends up doing both tasks at least slightly less well than the original tools. But recreating it was a fantastic idea for a project/video. I love stuff like this.
I have been machining for 20 years now and have never seen anyone center a drill like that that's a cool trick I'll have to use at work good job on the tool as well keep up the good work I love the videos and never miss one much love coming at you from South Carolina USA
In your roundup/critique...I think you’re being a little modest. That’s a beautiful piece sir, a marriage of form and function which stays true to the original concept. As William Morris observed, ‘keep nothing in your house which you believe not to be functional or beautiful ‘...this is both and earns its place, bravo!
Greetings from Abkhazia ! This is the best TH-cam channel ! I've been watching your work for 2 years ! You're a real gentleman! Continue your work in the same style ! You're the best guy ! I respect your work! Thank you so much for these precious videos! I'm looking forward to the new and new!
Narration, ambiance, gratuitous knob polishing, exotic hardwood, a love scene, a death saw, non OSHA compliant turning techniques, this had all my favourite HTR features in one. What a way to start my Saturday!
Awesome workmanship! you're truly talented. You should take a look at the loeffelholz codex from 1505 where there is detailed drawings of the tools of their time. I think it would make a interesting video to recreate some of them.
What a fine hand made tool !! Very very nice work !! Razor sharp !! To be honest I like the one you made better !! Love the look of the brass and cherry together !! Hours and hours of work.....made by hand made to precision 👍👍👍👍
Beautiful workmanship, gorgeous piece. However, I can't see a practical use for it. Combining two very useful tools to create one barely useable tool. Typical of many late 1800s/early 1900s patents.
Seriously guys, as if this was the point. Your view on 'the best tool' is completely irrelevant isn't it? It's a thing of beauty, it has some utility, and I'm prepared to bet that in the hands of a craftsman could produce work of a quality way better than that provided by tool experts with whatever they knowingly describe as 'better'. Anyway, I don't see why it wouldn't make a perfectly good small plane (you'd remove the chisel blade to use it, surely) and a decent chisel. I'm reminded of a comment about, I think, Victor Barna, a British table tennis champion of the 50's/60's, of whom it was said he would beat the second best player in Britain using a frying pan. Skill matters more than brand.
What a wonderful idea! Bringing the past to the present with great skill and making s thing of beauty. I would love to see more off the old patents resorted. You sir are an inspiration 💕
tip, if you back your center out and take out the live center , you can use the flat face of the center barrel to keep your die square to the workpiece
So much sensuality, all in one video. My head is going to explode. That is the sexiest tool I've ever seen (not you, the chisel / plane). Seriously - beautiful job.
Amazing to see the two side by side. Yours is much nicer and the brass is a nice touch. If I had to pick a favorite it’d have to be yours. The size and use of more durable materials is a great upgrade to the “original”. Keep it up man, I love to watch and I hope to someday have a small workshop of my own for making cool stuff.
This is amazing. I bet the designer would be proud to see his creation looking that good. Makes me want to start looking into old tool patents to send you!

This might be really specialized for certain jobs, or attempt of making universal tool. I dont know witch is it, but i kinda get when you are on the second floor fitting windows and need to take just little bit off this could do the job and fits into pocket.
Because having to remove and readjust parts on half of it is convenient when switching to the alternate function. Either that or plane away a good bit of skin when trying to get a better grip on the chisel, or stab the chisel into something when trying to plane something. Understandable that this thing never went anywhere or caught on. Ok... It seems more realistic that it just uses the same blade in either spot rather than having two blades for different functions at the same time. But most people find plane adjustments fidgety to get right and don't want to mess with that much outside of needing to sharpen its blade. Not to mention chiseling puts a blade at more risk for getting nicked, which is the last thing you want on a plane's blade. So it's still not going to be popular for that reason.
You are getting better and better at your craft with every video. Still my favorite restoration channel by far because you do things the way I would and I enjoy anticipating and guessing what you will do next in a project. Best intro by far aswell.

One does not simply say "The Model". It should be whispered, in the most eerily creepy way possible.

There is the catch, it was never his job to say it, it was ours. He simply spoke it in the introduction video as an education.
