VWs fall into the gray area. Some are yes, some are no. I know that mechanics don't like working on them very much. "German engineering" means "not made with mechanics in mind." Very tight spaces to work in a lot of the time. So, many mechanics, used to working on either American or Japanese cars, will say "no" almost as a reflex. But some VWs are well made and reliable. I would stay away from most Audis, though.

Ford Edge Sport 2014 with the 3.7 V6 with 84K on it now. Only thing I think I need to watch is the internal water pump. I do plan to switch to the new yellow collant. What say you Ford Boss?
That is pretty low miles. Change coolant every 2-3 years to keep the internal coolant pump happy. Also know where that weep hole is and check with a mirror stick and flashlight. -Replace immediately if you start seeing leakage at weep hole, underneath, or you are adding coolant on a constant basis.
I don't think VW does diesel in the US anymore. With diesel gate that added a bunch of things to the later models and I believe some have a lifetime warranty. TDI engines have the same issues as GDI engines with the carbon cleaning. For VW diesel get the earlier ones instead of >2012 etc. I would say no to both and yes to Corolla Wagon hybrid or Prius hybrid. Honda hybrids etc. Rav4 Prime. 40mpg+ vehicles.
A MK5 or MK6 with the 2.5 engine and 5 speed manual is the best combo to have for reliability. The 09G auto is okay, but they were known to have valve body wear issues on the MK5s, MK6 had that issue resolved (didn't help that VW claimed that the ATF was "lifetime" in the MK5 era, contributing to premature valve body failures).
I disagree on the subaru i bought a fprester in 2015 not one repair at all no issues no leaks…..yes the head gasket issue should be fixed i got the 2.5 timing chain engine not belt

3.6L with a long history of major problems, particularly timing chains. Paired to unreliable 8 and 9 speed transmissions. Be sure to change your oil at 5k, use good oil, and drain and fill your transmission every 20-30k miles max. I'd do it sooner personally.
@@brassmule thanks. not kidding about the miles on it. i had to look at the miles on it. 7,636. not trip meter, actual miles. i've had 3 oil changes in less than 8,000 miles. retired and just drive to the grocery store and doc's appointments. i use full synthetic of course, and changed at the dealer. helps with warranty i guess. i'll probly be gone by the time it hits 16,000 miles. that's another 6 years from now.
@@garycarpenter2932 Gotcha. I doubt the stealerships will do a transmission drain and fill, but any mobile mechanic can do that. It's not rocket surgery, just use the right fluid which will depend in your transmission type - Valvoline Maxlife or Valvoline Dexron IV/Mercon LV, it'll be one or the other. Those engines are bonkers though. Oil pan gasket reseal is an engine out job, it's nuts. I worked on a 2017 Kia Sportage recently - 9,100 miles, barely driven; already had failed purge valve and a stuck door lock actuator on the rear passenger door (common apparently). Low miles doesn't guarantee no issues, I suppose.
@@FordBossMe honest question. should i just take it to the dealer and trade it in for an older truck with the same price? my 01 Silverado , is reaching it's end. i've taken care of it. but 25 years of hard work on the thing is taking it's toll. i've looked into the equinox value with the low milage, around 18k. with the transferable warranty. 2.5 years left on that. it's already paid off. but don;t don't want to screw anyone else over for my mistake of buying it in the first place.

@@sharonrose50 the turbo is more fun to drive, but with the non-turbo 2.5L 4cyl, better chance for longer-term reliability, if you maintain it well. 😊
Please recommend a brand new or newer safe and reliable vehicle for college driver in Ohio. Thank you.
Take a video while telling us Rich…thumbs up
Ford Edge Sport 2014 with the 3.7 V6 with 84K on it now.
I agree
I said the same Answers.
I'm a mechanics daughter, I was taught how to buy vehicles
Odysseys have transmission issues I know the older ones did. Love Hondas V6 engines but why on earth are they still using timing belts in 2025??
Just buy a Toyota folks.
Yes or no refers to car owners who understand and perform the necessary maintenance of high-quality oil changes at intervals of 5000 miles or less!
What Subaru did you say no to ?
The one where the pistons go sideways
@ haha 😂
WHY NOT THE FORD EDGE? I HAVE A 2018 WITH A V6 AND IT HAS DONE VERY WELL.
Titanium have ecoboost engines
Turbo engine
Lol no's are cars meant to be leased only 😂
was thinking the same thing haha
Surprised no one had a newer Mazda there lol
The new Mazdas seem to be really reliable
Volkswagen wagon , do you recommend the gas over diesel?
Yes, gas burns a lot easier than diesel, so it'll be easier to torch your Volkswagen using gas than diesel.
Diesels when deleted are bulletproof
I don't think VW does diesel in the US anymore. With diesel gate that added a bunch of things to the later models and I believe some have a lifetime warranty. TDI engines have the same issues as GDI engines with the carbon cleaning. For VW diesel get the earlier ones instead of >2012 etc.
I would say no to both and yes to Corolla Wagon hybrid or Prius hybrid. Honda hybrids etc. Rav4 Prime. 40mpg+ vehicles.
VW wagon: The gold exterior with the white seats are very nice. Sunroof etc. 2012/2013
I'm not asking if anyone agrees with me
@ i didnt ask for your opinion on my post lol but 90% of ur recommendations i do agree with
Why no on the Edge Titanium?
Ecoboost
That was fun. I knew it was no for korea!
Your a bad daddy, you didn't introduce your puppy 🐶. that's why he got into the picture to say hello to everyone.you have yourself a great day good buddy.
part 2 with all the details was a better video this is great tho
Toyota all the way
I have a 2016 Ford Edge. Great car. No problems so far. Has the coldest AC of any car I’ve ever owned. V6 engine.

whats wrong with a ford edge i have a 2011 with 230k miles with regular oil change intervals its running great absolutely no issues been a great vehicle
The titanium is a ecoboost
that being its main and only downfall still on the top 10 list of the best engines ever built
@@FordBossMe educate me on the difference because aren't they both the 3.5l?
Ford Edge for sure no !
A Hyundai "no" a Volkswagen "yes". What are the freaking models??? That tells us nothing dude....
I did say the model goof
@@FordBossMeNO, you clearly forgot to mention the models from 1 minute13 seconds to 1 minute 25 seconds GOOF. Regardless, I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas.
why no on the edge. I Have a 2018 v6 3.5 zero issues.
Titanium is ecoboost
@@FordBossMe mine is not eco boost
what's wrong with the equinox? i have a 2018 with very low miles. 7600 actual miles as a matter of fact. it has the v6, not 4 turbo. be honest, how bad is this car. EDIT: i can handle bad news on it.
Timing chain and transmission issues
@@FordBossMe honest question. should i just take it to the dealer and trade it in for an older truck with the same price? my 01 Silverado , is reaching it's end. i've taken care of it. but 25 years of hard work on the thing is taking it's toll. i've looked into the equinox value with the low milage, around 18k. with the transferable warranty. 2.5 years left on that. it's already paid off. but don;t don't want to screw anyone else over for my mistake of buying it in the first place.
All junk mobiles..
Would you rate the cars in my work parking lot, if you saw them.

More of this is have shoped and tryed get buddys to man up and go get wife cars she had 3 junks in row all Korea junk hy miles and to much money wow sale men put gals in junk gess they divorced men 😅.
I love this episode, Rich! What if there was a newer model Nissan Frontier in that line? Yes or No?
Yes if non cvt transmission
I say no to Hyundai too. The engine issues.
The older Hyundai are pretty okay, if you get a non-turbo, non-GDI V6 from Hyundai.
A used car salesman I know would disagree on Ford Edge. He said to me “Just because it requires an engine-out timing-cover-off replacement of water pumps that are prone to failure doesn’t mean it’s inferior to a late 90s Lexus. Poor build quality and poor reliability isn’t a bad thing. It is still a good car.”
would never buy any crap kia or hyndai.
