It does amuse and equally annoy me that people give a thumbs down. What did they expect? The title tells them what it's about, as does the description and thumbnail. It's well shot, edited, good sound quality and narrative. I am mystified.

John, there is an explanation. When TH-cam selects a video and presents it on your screen as "Recommended for you", then you click on it and discover that it is not the type which is of interest to you - then if you select the dislike [thumbs down], and YT algorithms will no longer 'recommend' that genre of video again. Thus, they are not all negative about the channel or poster.

And some folks are just unable to be happy with anything. As you know they are all about. Anymore you can walk outside close your eyes and toss a rock and when you hear an ouch you found one.

I never thought I would end up watching so many narrow boat videos, and the culprit that got me involved was you! The way you describe throughout what we're seeing with such interest, it keeps us coming back for more! I've tried watching a lot of those other boaters, most are extremely boring, and even though they are on the same section as you! Anyway, thanks for making it fun to watch, and some day I'll make that trip to the good old UK and try to hitch a ride!

" England's green and pleasant land " indeed. That was wonderful. One to be watched over again for its verdant beauty. I wonder what the original working narrow boaters would think of the boats now being used and lived in as a home by choice for the love of it. I think they would approve. Thank you so much. This might be my favourite so far.

David while most canals are just wide enough to all the vessels to pass, I remain amazed just how narrow the English canals are is reality. Plus how absolutely beautiful it is. There are times during your private tour I feel like you have taken us through a Time Warp Portal while are on your boat, and we are looking at the world of today through a window but we are somewhere back in time, it is just so peaceful.

  • @frankfreeman1444

David: Please feel free to "blather on" ad infinitum. Having never been able to visit England, much less on a canal touring narrowboat, your commentary makes the videos immensely more enjoyable than the competition. You point out things I might have missed, plus the background information and explanations all make me feel more like I am right there with you.
Remember when you explained that the problem with a "trad" stern was that it made it difficult to have a conversation if you did have a guest? Well your blathering fills that gap nicely for this viewer trapped in Thailand! Thanks and carry on.

Your journey took me back 70 years. I often walked from Strines to Adlington along the canal (or through Lyme Park). Our scout troop had a narrow boat moored at Adlington, but we had other boats which I took along the canal back to Strines or High Lane. Of course, it was then very much quieter, just a few boats and they were mostly working boats. I must now find your journey on the Peak Forest canal. Thanks for the memories.

Hi there, I discovered your videos by the 'Recommended for you' list, and enjoyed the tour of the boat and this episode.. It's funny how much
I can relate to your choice. I too was a journalist (photographer) for over 25 years, based in London and then Paris from the mid 80's. I
chose to leave journalism and move to rural France and set up a fishing lake business. I have in the past owned a camper and travelled widely in
it... and it is a retirement project to do so again with my wife.
I'm glad you are still going on your travels... You know the French waterways are vast, so if you run out of English waterways to sail
on...... I shot some pictures last month of a retired Dutch couple who had left Rotterdam in September, on a tugboat and were sailing down the
French canals and rivers to Sète, due to arrive in April next year.
Anyway I look forward to following your travels. best Regards Gareth

Just enjoyed the last 4 vlogs in a row, l'm sure l will continue my viewing, well into the night. I just wanted to say, Autumn in the UK is quintessentially British, the heavy morning dews, cool air, that climbs gently throughout the day, often beneath a clear blue sky, and just the hint of Mother Nature's impending spectacular finale in November, with all the hues and breathtaking colours, before our evenings draw in. I have been privileged to live in the Arctic Circle in Finland ( my thumbnail), and of course it to has its own beauty, but my heart will forever be in England.
Thank you, for your wonderful content, it has always been of the highest quality.

Macclesfield one of the last British canals built as late as 1830's - as trains were making first appearance. Something very special and uniquely beautiful about this stretch of water highway - including the elliptical shaped bridges.

Nice vlog and lovely scenery. Just a tip, when using chains, or mooring rings, take a loop of rope, pass it through the ring, hook it around the boat cleat, pull tight and tie off the loose end on the boat. Saves having to feed the whole length of rope through the ring. Happy travels.

I love the Mac and Peak Forest. Your trip showed the junction onto the Peal Forest. On our trip there, our friend's dog Monty decided to leave the boat as we passed through the narrow. The first we knew was seeing a dog that looked just like Monty heading up onto the bridge! His owner leapt off and I reversed into the narrow and hovered. Monty was recovered quickly and we were on our way. Dogs are lovely on a boat, but can give you a surprise occasionally.

I interrupted watching 199 twice. Once because I could swear I was looking at a John Constable and had to check and later when I "knew" you were showing us Giverny and that Monet would be crossing the bridge to welcome us in. It is that beautiful. Were armies of British youth under the direction of Luchino Visconti paid to place those yellowing leaves on the mirror surface of the waters? I could feel the breeze denuding the trees above and the light shooting through the gaps. Beautiful! Every second beautiful

I know I leave this comment quite often, but another lovely video David! I really feel that if there is a hire boat trade organization promoting the canals, they would do well to contract with you to produce adverts for them. Truly makes me long for a narrowboat holiday.

Loved it, thank you. I’ve been waiting for this one as you went under the canal bridge at the top of my road! I normally run down the towpath from High Lane to Higher Poynton, so lovely to get the view from the canal. The mill is Goyt Mill incidentally, and when I was a child in the 80s it used to have a great big chimney too. Fun fact: the bridges around Higher Poynton are not the stone ones as with the rest of the canal, as the area has a history of mining, so they used lightweight decks so that if the bridges subsidised, they could easily raise the decks by adding more stone.

Hi David, new to TH-cam video comments. Luv your vlog. Found you from the restoration vlog you uploaded. Had just been reading on the original workings of the canal and saw your vlog. This led to watching and now subscribing. Thank you for your videos. We are Australian and would love to visit UK. Had planned to when our nephew got married about 10 years ago but he and his British husband decided to return to Oz. My husband is a long distance truck driver. Your cruising vlogs are now our preferred form of relaxation. Your non-vlog pieces run on the tv while we sleep. Your enthusiasm for your cruising is wonderful. Denis, my husband, and I find the practical vlogs as enjoyable as the scenic vlogs. We are in our 60s now and he has 2 replacement knees so he would prefer to be chauffeured on the canal because of the physicality of the locks. Thank you for showing us the beauty of the English countryside, the vagaries of your weather and the history provided. Your voice is very soothing and our granddaughter of 3 years lays on our floor for quiet time listening to you and watching the scenery. Cheers

This was absolutely beautiful to watch. I would like you to bring us along when going shopping sometime. After all, shopping is part of canal life!? Many beautiful places to see in this video. Now, back to my wife, who also is beautiful.

Cheers. I tend to focus on the canals and boats rather than shopping. All supermarkets look much the same!

What an enchanting landscape. Thoroughly enjoyed the journey. One of the very best, even by the very high standard that we know we can expect in your vlogs. So, thank you very much. And to bed now for a very restful sleep. Btw, great work with the drone!

Well done David. Knowing how you are a shy, retiring fellow that you are, I shall not express the depth of joy, and how the gentle rolling hills with the plant and animal life all enjoying on such a lovely day brought peace to a weary soul. I'll keep that to myself, Wouldn't want to embarrass such a modest man as yourself. ;-)
