Thank you for using your platform to emphasize what is at stake in the upcoming election. If everyone were to lay it out like you do, maybe more people would vote. 🙏🏼

I am proud of myself. I'm 76 years and have voted in every election since I was 21. I can't understand why people don't vote.

Neoliberalism depoliticises people by turning everything into a personal econonic choice (market solutions) or a technocratic decision for experts and oligarchs. We do need more public discussion about the possibilities for more democratic processes.

Thank you for speaking to so many issues that surround the upcoming election. I am a school librarian and our most recent school board election saw two people elected who would limit access to books and student groups. What is most important is that we get people to pay attention & vote. ❤

    Happy Anniversary Greg and Joel!
I have been thinking of you because my political anxiety has kicked in big time and it has impacted my reading too. My attention span is garbage - I’m trying to counteract that by reading five books at a time so if I’m stopping at least I can pick up something else. We’ll see how that works out! 😫

Belated Happy Anniversary wishes to you and Joel! I’m Canadian so I can’t help election results by way of voting, but I do live very close to the Maine border and I’ve been watching the election news quite closely. Good on you for using your platform to speak out about the importance of voting and local government 👏🏻 Hopefully something happens to change the trajectory of the projected outcome soon!

Happy, happy anniversary, you two! I’ve also switched to cinnamon bun reading this week, to try to remind myself there’s still good in the world. I’ve been reading (listening to) The Book of Delights, and The Book of Delights 2, by Ross Gay, and it’s…delightful! (And keeps me from doomscrolling.)
There are definitely parts of Hombrecito that are hard to read, his childhood and the relationship with his family especially. But there’s so much to love about the book, and if you can keep up with it, it has such a sweet, hopeful ending. Just outstanding.

I just got done with this heart warming and witty Book called The people on platform 5 by Clare Pooley... It's a light read and it will elevate your mood for sure.

    • @MJ-in-Canada

“The People on Platform 5” by Clare Pooley is an excellent cinnamon bun suggestion. That’s the UK title. In the U.S. and Canada, the title is “Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting.” She has a new book called “How to Age Disgracefully” and even though it’s a fun read, I found that it didn’t hold my attention well enough.

Ugh, Greg, I am so, so with you! I'm basically freaking out unless I'm sleeping or have managed to somehow get my brain to concentrate on videos or books. "We're screwed, we're screwed!" -- this is my brain's mantra, on the edge of complete freak out. Anyway..... I'm almost done with What I'd Rather Not Think About, and it's good. Hard subject matter, I know, but it's a fast read and really well done. You might try it, but I totally get it if you just can't. Thanks for sharing your anxiety -- it is so helpful to know I'm not alone (although I wish neither of us had it.) Go kiss that handsome husband of yours, and you two have a happy anniversary!!! 💞💞 Scritches for Teddy 💚

First--- Happy anniversary! Secondly, one good thing about living in Maine for me is that Maine has Ranked Choice Voting, hard won over several different elections. I wish the entire country had RCV--- I think it could have the power to really change things, In this way, I can vote my conscience, but also feel safe. It eliminates the whole idea of "spoilers". Nationwide RCV might make the two major parties pay more attention, and would definitely give them less power to just say, "Make your choice for one of us!" I mean, I am a registered Democrat, but I am pretty far left of most Democrat policies. And obviously, I don't want DT and Project 2025 coming into power, especially since SCOTUS has made it clear they are on the side of making DT a king. I do wish the entire country had RCV, though. Thirdly--- I have always loved Neil Gaiman, both his work, and the fact that he is on the side of so many good things and speaks up for so many oppressed people. But the allegations are disturbing. I do think it is gross people are using the allegations to sell a podcast (hosted by anti-trans and other problematic people). But here's the thing: even outside of the more disturbing allegations, Gaiman's responses to them show that the relationships were, at the very least, problematic. I am not saying age gaps are wrong (though a man in his 60s with a young woman in her early 20s is a pretty big age gap)... but no, they are not inherently wrong. But the power dynamic and imbalance is troubling--- the nanny for his child? A fan he met when she was 18 and he was in his 40s? These are problematic not necessarily just because of age gap, but the power dynamic. And it does make me feel a bit icky towards him, even though I have always loved his work and his politics. And obviously, the more serious allegations need to be investigated thoroughly, and obviously it is brave to come out and speak their truth against such a popular and almost universally loved public figure.

I have been so wanting to talk with other Americans, that word I never use here in Mex! I still get notices from Montana
politicians(despite unsubscribing). Usually I keep my head out of this stuff, so depressing. But what I am annoyed and angry about is how difficult they make it to vote from overseas. I’m supposed to mail it in, from Mexico with its lack of reliable postal service, then through the States! I can use DHL or FedEx but that costs $35!
Rather read but I’ve been distracting myself with old YT movies this week! After Kairos I need something lighter!
