If anybody wants more clarity with your humbucking SG’s the solution is simple as pie. No need to change pickups, no need to change out the pcb board. All you need to do is just lower the pickups height down. This was a gamechanger for me. I came from the Strat life, and my SG always sounded too muddy for me when I wanted to play clean with it. I heard something that Dickie Betts had said about lowering his SG pickups way down almost level with their plastic rings. And it worked for me immediately. Now my SG (2017 Gibson SG Standard T) sounds sparkly and pretty when I wanna play clean. It still chugs too when you want to play dirty. Biggest gamechanger for me with SG’s. Ever since then I’ve been drifting more and more away from my custom shop strat more toward the SG. Another tip for SG people is that with SG’s the action height and the way that you wrap the posts as well as the way you set the stoptail can make a huge difference with resonance and vibrations. A lot of people buy used SG’s and then think they suck due to a bad setup. Gotta remember there’s probably a 50% chance that a used SG was used for slide, or was set up for slide. I always make sure that the stopbar is way down on the body, and that the bridge isn’t too high. Also get locking tuners and use them properly with 0 winds around the post. Once you set an SG up properly they sound as good as a les paul and sustain just as much. They really are fantastic. Think of an SG as somebody making a les paul 2 lbs lighter and making it more ergonomic. For some reason beginners have pushed this narrative that neck dive means something. I just use a grippy strap and I’ve never had an issue. People act like neck dive is gonna hurt your playing because you’re too busy trying to hold the neck up- that’s goofy. Where’s your strumming arm when you’re playing? Laying on the body of the guitar which would completely prevent the neck from diving anyway. People have also pushed this narrative of SG’s being fragile, or something. If you want to drop $2000+ guitars on their headstock- what model would you reccomend doing that with? Because what works for me is I don’t drop expensive guitars on their headstock, and I don’t lean them against amps or use floor stands.

SG stands for Stellar Grandma. And to why it stopped being called a Les Paul is because Mary, Les's wife left him and she still played one and he didn't want his name on it anymore. That's straight from Gibson's historian on the Anderton's visit to the Gibson vault.
I had one of the anniversary Epiphone Les Paul SG Specials a few years ago, with the p90s, wrap tail and set neck, I definitely liked it and it sounded really good but I didn’t like the neck dive and it just felt too different for me from my tele and Les Paul. It was TV yellow too so it looked awesome too!

Could have been the SG being the Second Generation Les Paul. Remember they were simply a Les Paul from '61 to '63. Then it was renamed the SG after Les's contract with Gibson expired.

Back in 2013, I visited Chicago Music Exchange and bought a 1968 Gibson SG Special and took it with me to my home in Germany. Still love this guitar.

I’m surprised how nice that SG looks in TV Yellow. But also that color is very nice. A bit orange.
I thought SG stood for solid body guitar. I own a custom shop 61 with a mistro vibrola, and it rocks with my Magnatone Twilighter Stereo.
