    Kit better represents CV-6 at Santa Cruz. After Eastern Solomons, she had 40mm quads installed by the island and the Chicago Piano 1.1 at the bow. That boat crane was removed in May, 42 as well as one search light on each side of the stack. Best to get some Avengers and ditch the Devastators and it's a dead match for Santa Cruz.

      Mike Acker thank you for watching! On this kit came out about five years ago I wanted to get it then and like a fool I did not. Every time I would go to the I PMS nationals I would try to find it and couldn’t. I was ecstatic that this company is releasing it. And I was very surprised to find out that nobody had reviewed it. Once I get it built I will do another video outlining how it went. Hopefully I can be a pretty accurate rendition of a midway version.

    I once bought the Battle of Midway CVs by Revell. You could build either the USS Yorktown, the USS Enterprise, or the USS Hornet with it.

    • @maddogmerv
      @maddogmerv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting. I too many years ago bought those kids. I want to say there was two different kits I think there was a Yorktown that had dauntless is in it and then there was the Hornet that actually had the B-25 sinnett they were probably the same ship model however knowing Revell. Anyways I got three of them and painted the muffins the three Midway carriers and they looked pretty good but just not very detailed and such an odd scale. I tossed those many years ago

    • @maddogmerv
      @maddogmerv  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And then built built them much more accurately in 1/700 scale. That worked out well for me because I didn't have to use Photo Edge which I absolutely hate. I do have a 1/350 scale hornet that I built many years ago and now I have Enterprise and Yorktown both that I need to get started on.

      @@maddogmerv : Well the kit that I built was so that the only difference was the gun emplacements for the USS Enterprise with the 20MM guns on the side of the Flight Deck. What differentiated the USS Hornet from the USS Yorktown was the camouflage pattern.

      @@maddogmerv I’ve been working on the Enterprise for a couple days now and have run in to some glaring issues, some of the parts for the walls of the hangar deck have the mold ejection pin marks on the surfaces that are showing so putty is a must and not all parts fit properly, but pluses are that the parts are very well detailed and the photo etch is a bit thicker than other kits I’ve gotten and just feel more robust

    It's early iteration started out as the U.S.S Yorktown by Trumpeter. Of course Trumpeter built in the necessary steps to modify it to the Enterprise. The kit isn't without it's problems that translated over from the Yorktown kit. The fit of parts for the 40 mm antiaircraft platforms at the bow is a horrible fit and requires a good portion of filler for the very prevalent gaps. Sanding flush poses a number of problems because of the odd angles. The whole kit looks impressive in box but that's where the fun ends. I started building it as a commission build so I'm now committed to finishing it.

      Matthew Keller Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. I have done a lot of 1/ 350 scale ships before and my problem as I get too much in the accuracy and detail. Really going to try to focus on just making a fairly decent and accurate version for Midway without going into too much detail.

    • @maddogmerv
      @maddogmerv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Need Username Yes do your research! If you just wanna build it straight from the box that’s great but if you want to make it look like any specific version of the ship that you’re building then make sure you do your homework first so that you get the weapons right the colors right and all that sort of stuff. And some of the longer pieces I used the testers in the black bottle that has the needle like applicator. Most everything else I used to me is ultrathin cement and everything goes together just fine. I painted most of my major components while they were on the tree and that way once I removed them I just had to come back and touch up a few things.

      Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting. First thing I would have to say is well at least the pictures are in English! LOL I know that doesn’t help when you need the written instructions on certain parts. Honestly I don’t follow the written directions much. I do a lot of research on the actual ships that I’m building and I have to scratch build a lot of parts anyway so I just kind of refer to the pictures do test fits and then modify from there. Good luck with this thing. Previously I have built the Lexington and the hornet that were made by trumpeter. This kit fortunately has more interior detail. I’ve been busy with other projects but I know I will get started on this sometime in the spring. When I do I usually start building the island first as it usually requires the most modification to get it where I want it.
