Born in 1941 in Ajmer, Rajasthan, Pandita Malini Rajurkar studied
Hindustani vocal music under Pandit Govindrao Rajurkar and Vasantrao Rajurkar of the Gwalior gharana. She has had a distinguished career on the concert platform, and has performed widely in India and other countries including the United States, Canada, Britain and Bangladesh.
She is one of the foremost performers of Khayal today and has a rich repertoire of traditional as well as rare compositions.
The distinctive characteristic of her music is her ease of singing complex phrases of the tappa ang gayaki of the famed Gwalior Gharana , which makes her count amongst the finest vocalists of her generation. Malinitai is regarded as the ' Queen of Gwalior' amongst critics,connoisseurs of music as well as mass audiences.
