hey i know everyone is saying the 80s isn’t old and they live in 100year old homes etc but i wanted to point out that homes built 100s of years ago were built to last, in the 80s homes were made quick and cheap! so there are weird layouts, tacky fixtures, extra walls etc. also homes built in the 30s and whatnot have amazing bones and character but the 80s was just god awful haha! just to take into consideration !!
70s and 80s houses are the worst because they're often weird and dysfunctional because people built trendy but cheap houses. It's not old but I agree they're very out-dated compared to either more modern or even older houses.

I think people are really confused by Avery talking abt her “old” house and I just want to put my few cents in bc my house was also built in the 80s... extra walls everywhere, cheap mismatched finishings, smelly carpet, dirty grout, ugly washed up colors, single paned windows.... When my parents renovated, you realize in hindsight how cramped and dysfunctional it was, moreso because of the finishings than the building itself. And ofc without the charm of older, maybe New England/European style buildings and neighborhoods. In addition, those older buildings are still there bc they were built to last and were maintained. If Avery’s family is only the second owner of that house, chances are little was done to upkeep before it was sold. I realize these are problems not everyone has the privilege to complain abt, but if you do have the means, I think we can al acknowledge the power your environment has on your mental capacities, even for functionality’s sake.

I’m so happy for you that you got to do this! A messy room always makes my anxiety way worse so you finally gittung that dresser and actually being able to sort things out and give it a place will hopefully do some good for your mental health too. Just making your day to day life a tiny bit easier.
I totally understand about feeling sad or depressed about your room being a mess while redoing it last summer I moved into a new house with an unfinished basement where my room was supposed to be so I had sleep on a mattress on the floor in my brothers room and half of my stuff was in boxes it’s definitely not a good feeling to not have your own space that feels like yours but in the end once you get your own space back again it makes you appreciate it more

My house is 367 years old to this date and very small but I decorated and styled my room and I’m happy with it, it’s very white- full of plants and has the most space I could make available with using the water tank in my room as a desk etc hahaha

i just did my own room tour transformation. From a very hectic room with a lot of stuff to a very minimalistic room with neutral coloures and not much stuff. And i feel so much more relaxed in my room and i just love it. Our rooms really look a like and are both so beautiful.
