    I am so committed to this storyline...though I had no idea I would even remotely end up feeling this way🙄...and it's kinda weird that I feel like this...at least for me it is. But I have "No Regrets" about it either. And I am very thankful for having the good fortune to be able to access this (audio)book through this channel.

    Loving the story.
    This is the first real complaint I have. Almost plot breaking.
    They didn’t kill the evil guard captain that tried to murder them all. Plus they could have killed the last two wizards in the city and bought 6 more months with no wizard king.

    • @qdogkohanek
      @qdogkohanek ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These people are supposed to be heroes at heart, even if they are reluctant about it. To just blindly murder someone is not in their character. In addition, they were in pure survival and flee mode, so killing Despaldi would not have been the first thing on their mind. Put yourself in their shoes and imagine how they felt at the time. More than one of them nearly died, so they were happy to just escape with their lives.
      As for other wizards, they are not easy to kill and attempting to do so carries risk. Even if they killed the ones present, others live in Marquithe and they would have happily stepped in to replace any of the others. There is no way a darkening would have passed without SOMEONE stepping forward to lay claim to the throne.

    • @ericsmith551
      @ericsmith551 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@qdogkohanek How the hell is it blindly when they literally just moments before tried to murder you or a friend of yours? Both wizards tried to kill someone, Jayce (sp?) and Rowa (sp?) both were targeted by a wizard, and Despaldi had betrayed and hunted Jayce and the group more than once. So you go ahead and tell me how it's "blindly", since apparently I must have a warped sense of what they tried to do to the group as a whole.
      If in their shoes, I wouldn't have left a single one of them alive. That's how you get hunted again, and again, AND AGAIN, as we see later in the story with Despaldi coming after them for what, the third time now? And considering they were already blamed for the death of ONE wizard lord, what would stop them from thinking it's going to happen again by leaving someone alive? By the by, "survival mode" doesn't mean you crap your pants and flee in terror. It's different for everyone, but a common theme I see when things get really bad is people doing things they wouldn't normally do, like taking the time to finish off an unconscious foe. By the way, if they didn't think Malvorious (sp?) was a foe I think they must be mentally damaged considering HE is one of the wizards who tried to barbecue Rowa more than once. You're right, there's no way someone wouldn't have stepped in and taken over, but at least it wouldn't be someone with a vested interest in betraying or murdering you.

      I'm enjoying this series, though this spot also bothered me since it felt forced. Rhoa asking, "What's the point?" (as a reason for just leaving the evil wizard there -- since another wizard would just replace the current ruling one) feels unconvincing. The other spot that seems odd is at the end -- 9:32. Realize our storyteller's actions are supposed to be mysterious and will be explained in later books. But if Salvon is supposed to be one of the 'good guys', then seems his actions seem less than 'heroic' at this moment...

    • @qdogkohanek
      @qdogkohanek ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CL-sw7qv Obviously, you have a right to your own opinion. I assure you that nothing was forced. I often don't even know how my characters are going to respond until they are in the moment and it happens.
      As for Salvon, he is neither good nor bad since both are subjective terms. Mysterious is a more suitable description. Manipulative is a good one as well. But toward what end? You will find out.

      Mills and Boon? I had to look it up. I assume you refer to the romance aspect. While it is a subplot, like most subplots, you get more of it in some books of the series than in others. This one represents the higher end of that range.

    Don't get me wrong, I like the book, but for how powerful and intimidating the wizardlords are supposed to be, they are outmatched quite a lot. They die like flies. It doesn't make them appear like a threat at all, to be honest. Otherwise, the plot is great, and the pacing works really well. Props to the author and the narrator, too. As far as the characters are concerned, there are some really entertaining and likeable ones in there. However, as I have already depicted in my comment on the first book, there are also some I don't like. The women in this book are not my cup of tee. At all. The princess is clearly the worst, although that is just personal preference. Others might like her, but her character, as well as some of the other females, are not for me. As a fellow women I am glad that I don't know anyone like her personally. That being said, I like the bodyguard. Her beating up well-trained male fighters left and right might not really be realistic, but her character is pleasant enough, so I'll overlook it :)
    All in all, the book is certainly worthy of recommendation, and I'd definitely listen to another part!

    • @qdogkohanek
      @qdogkohanek ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The wizard lords dying in succession is an anomaly and is happening all at once for a reason, revealed later in the series. As for the women, I rarely hear anyone (male or female) who dislikes them. However, it is a six-book series and you can expect character growth through the challenges they face. Perhaps you'll feel differently as those changes take place.
      Thanks for checking out my books and for supporting our TH-cam channel.

      @Jeffrey L Kohanek Hi, thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my comment 😊
      Ah, I see. In that case, I will have to wait patiently for the reveal ;)
      As for the characters, I guess it really just comes down to personal preference. The princess and the acrobat are my least favourite, but may be someone else's very favourite, and that is perfectly fine 🤷‍♀️
      They are well written, and I already see a bit of character development. Who knows, maybe by book 4 or so, I will love them, too 🤷‍♀️
      Besides, I have to admit that my tastes in that regard are somewhat unusual/abnormal as I find myself rooting for the thief and the princesses brother (who may be a rather unpopular pick😂). So don't worry, that's just me 😂
      Thank you so much for providing these audiobooks for free!!! I'm looking forward to the next books to be released/uploaded.

      Yes, the princess is very annoying. I had to come back to your post after I was half way into book 5. She is very immature and childish about chase. Could be the author writes her that way because she doesn't have a clue how to act with the opposite sex being raised the way she was. Very annoying to me so I agree with you wholeheartedly... Just thought I'd let you know that... Thanks for your thoughts on it.

    Didn’t it state in the first book that Narine (however it’s spelled) was and always had been unattractive.) when it introduces her and describes Aiden that’s the implication I took away at the very least. Now it multiple times describes her as curvy and something to stare at for jace.

    • @qdogkohanek
      @qdogkohanek ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually, Narine was always attractive. Her issue was in her own perception and revolved around her weight. She filled out during her stay at the University, and was quite voluptuous by the time she graduated. She is jealous of Aiden's long and lithe build, but with her shorter stature and curves, that will never be achievable. I will note that she loses some of her extra weight during their adventures. In addition, Jace/Jerrell has a type (curvy girls) and he sees Narine as highly desirable, so anytime his POV is portrayed, she will described as he perceives her and that description is DIFFERENT than how she sees herself.

      @@qdogkohanek your writing is very fun and interesting while still building a “high fantasy” subtly. I really like the time it takes to flesh out certain details. It allows one to form an idea about it for awhile before it’s given a more detailed description later. At first I was a little frustrated but now I’ve come to see it’s a style and I like it. I feel like you’ve done an excellent job of grabbing certain pieces of previously established series and fleshing them out in a unique way.
