In the 1960's, 70's there were vehicle safety checks all the time. Now a cop can pass a vehicle with a headlight out and not give them a second glance.
Nice bike! When I see a setup like that around here (DC area) it's usually a sobriety checkpoint. Odd to see in a residential area though, maybe that's a NY thing? Years ago when my Daytona ('97 T595, still have it) was new, and a pretty rare sight (mine was one of the first shipment, first one my dealer got), I was pulled over by a DC cop just after I left a gas station; I knew he was back there, and didn't' think I'd given him cause to stop me, and when he got out of his car he said, "You're okay, I just want to see your bike." That I could have done without, but at least there was no hassle involved.
It's black, silver lettering with Lucifer Orange pinstriping (that's Triumph's actual name for that color). It appears in a video on Broncoride's channel called "Ride to WV Meetup" from a couple years ago. Also have an '02 T100 Bonnie, which is in a video on Ron C's channel called, if I recall right, "Meeting a Subscriber". There are apparently a couple of different Ron C's, the one I know is the guy who does camping and backpacking stuff as well as bikes (he has a Tiger). That stock tool kit of yours looks just slightly better than my Bonnie's, the only tool it came with is a single 5mm Allen wrench to remove the seat bolts with. When the Bonnie was new, I often had guys roll down their window when stopped at a light, and the question was always, "What year is that? I used to have one of those!" The Bonnie was re-introduced in '01, there are a lot more of them on the road now so I haven't heard that question for a while.
I don't quite understand what do they mean by registration, isn't the registration the number plate? Also what if you don't have your licence on you, you left it at home or in your other jacket. I find this odd, in the UK they do all this stuff automatically now, if something is off they get a ping on their computer. Also we don't often need to cary our licence the physical licence is almost obsolete though we still have to get one.

Very nice bike indeed. If I may add one slight suggestion related to chain cleaning. It worth to consider as it is more efficient if you use the chain cleaner and chain lube from the inside of the chain towards outside. It will put more wax on those part of the chain which has the actual contact w/ the sprocket. (of course the dirt is sprayed outside as well when your are cleaning). This is just my opinion, I totally respect your way as well. Which way is the better for you I'm fine with it. Keep the rubber on the road, ride safe.

@@taecafe1003 Some leftover 1-2mm strong plastic from DIY electrical work, pick your choice. At that spot it won't damage the bike as I turn the wheel, it scrubs only to the tyre. It surely won't put small paper pieces into the chain by accident. If it is flexible you can use some chain brush even w/o sending the crap all over the wheel. I use it during the application of the wax as well on the same spot to mitigate the lube spots on the wheel and tyre.
@@taecafe1003 it all gets splattered , dont believe the hype. Gear box oil is cheap compared to special chain lubes , so you can use often and lightly. A drop on every "roller" from the inside of the rear sprocket will do it :-)

When one gets stopped for a ''Safety Check'' it's always a complete pain in the arse. put bike on stand, remove gloves, remove key from ignition, unlock seat...find all necessary documentation, hand over all doc's....repeat in reverse...ride on your way.... after never having to prove the Bike is road worthy...or not....in the meantime your house is being robbed!..
Safety checks or any other checkpoints are unconstitutional if there is not a reasonable articulatable suspicion of a crime. These checkpoints would be eliminated if a lawsuit is filed.
That had nothing to do with safety because the bike wasn't inspected (worn tires, brake pads, etc.) nor was the rider riding in an unsafe manner. Instead a check was made to see if the rider had a valid license and registration and to see if there were any warrants. Since this was happening on every 3rd vehicle, it amounts to a fishing expedition with no probable cause. In order for an officer to pull someone over they need probable cause (that a law was violated: for example the officer may have witnessed a traffic violation or noticed the driver weaving in a lane which would be probable cause for a sobriety check). But in this case there was no probable cause by the rider. And the bike did not undergo any sort of safety inspection.

90w gear box oil it the lube to use , its been recommended for years
