I have a 2016 Gl450 it did that only one time idk what I pressed and it parked by it self. I tried to do the same thing you did it didn’t work.

You have to drive slowly next to a parking space until the arrow next to the P sign on the dashboard pops up.

@@hussob7931 once the arrow next to it appears, it means that the car spotted a parking spot. You put the gear on reverse and then click "ok" from the steering wheel.

You see the blue P, but not the arrow.
You have to find a spot between two cars, and the car will detect that and the arrow will appear.

No, 2013 cannot park perpendicularly. I believe it started with model year 2016 and later.
