I recently placed an order at an auction (that I lost) for a beautiful repetition pocket watch. In France where I live there is still a market. I guess like in every market, the most beautiful pieces age and keep their value the best.

Here in the UK there is a market for Ww11 military issue watches.
I have a 1940 Swiss made army officer's pocket with the Ministry of defence arrow and issue number engraved on the caseback. Worth about £100.
I also have a vintage Kirovskie wrist watch made in 1939 at the 1st Moscow watch factory. Its a type 1 in a pie pan case on a bund strap as the lugs as so narrow. These are fetching up to £200 and rising all the time because of their rarity value.
Mid century vintage watches from the 1970s and 80s are cheap to buy.
Raketa 2609ha movement wrist watches are popular because the movements are tough, easily regulated and the dials are really interesting.

The vintage tank watches make great classy dress watches when wearing a suit.

I started with pocket watches when I started collecting about 8 months ago. They are great, they’re beautiful and fun to hold and wind and tinker with. I love looking at them run but that’s all you can do. Wristwatches you can cherish and use everyday. I love wristwatches now for that reason. I still have a few pocket watches but I won’t be buying anymore unless it’s a really good deal. I’m hooked on wristwatches now.

Hello, big fan of your work and videos! Im just a big watch enthusiast .I have about 4 vintage pocket watches and I can get them at a super low price! There’s a local jewelry place here where I live that the owner just wants to get rid of them! Pocket watches just have charisma and charm to them and I love that.

Personally never been a fan of pocket watches myself, but I've got a gold 30's Elgin 'curvex' (with a 3 tier stepped case) that I absolutely love - it's in great condition too!

I have a 16s 17j Elgin from 1925 I bought from Ebay, and I also bought a 1893 18s 15j Waltham from Ebay. The elgin is clean and loses about a minute after around 12hrs, when pretty close to full wind (I don't fully wind my watches very often) and my Waltham is always around two minutes to fast by the end of around 12hrs, even with my regulator all the way to the "Slow" position. What's a good price to get them serviced at, and how do I know when they need to be serviced if they have synthetic lube? I don't know the last time the Elgin was serviced, and the seller serviced the Waltham. My local watch maker charged about 300$ (that was including a new main spring) for an heirloom watch (an 18s 11j Illinois from 1896) to be fully serviced, with what he said was lube used in Rolex's.

People are living in smaller places and keeping less stuff. My parents have less stuff than their parents did, I don't want most of my parents stuff, and my kids will probably not want most of my stuff. Antiques don't really serve a purpose, so if you don't have space or money, you don't want antiques.

The market for antiques is dying. Millennials have no interest in them. The hottest thing in antiques is “mid century modern”. And most people think that just because it was made in the 50s it’s MCM. Morons.

I know plenty of people(including myself!) who are still interested in antiques. I think what's happening is two-fold, firstly many people now buy stuff from Ebay(which is generally cheaper with greater variety, but can be risky) and also, as J K says, people often can't afford luxury goods, as this generation on the whole is crushed by student loans and rents!

Hey, how’s it going brother. Love the Elgin and perhaps might be interested in the pen. You sold me some pieces awhile back. A Movado triple date red dial & a Cartier. Throw me an email if not I’ll email you. Haven’t seen or heard from you in awhile, don’t know if it’s TH-cam’s algorithms. Anyhow, always been a fan. Que Dios te bendiga hermano.
