    Hey brother! excellent opinion! How would you compare the wa 251 with a telefunken tf 29 or tf 11? I am looking for the best possible microphone for my songs, my voice is a bit "muddy" with a lot of body, not so present midrange and very sibilant. I make urban music, I like cutting voices in the mix with accentuated treble but without sounding "harsh". Which microphone of those three would you recommend?

I've only had it a few months so it's very possible that by you guys complaining they have fixed the problem , if that's the case it would be nice for Warm Audio to have a recall on earlier production but yeah they have great stuff , a few pieces of my gear is from Warm Audio I have the WA87 the WA73 the WA76 and the WA2A I love them all...

    Its such a shame Warm Audio let themselves down after putting the effort in at making close copies, with things like faulty connectors, poor shock mounts, and in some cases, failures after 6 months or more use. It might sound pretty good, but the poor workmanship makes it pricey garbage if it fails 12 months later or the shock mount drops the mic. An AKG c414 XLII sounds as good but with better build quality imo.

For my type of vocals wich one do you think i have to choose ? Thank you !

    • @AtmosphereAudio
      @AtmosphereAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey, how are you? Hope your safe and well. I actually got to assist a recording session with Uzi before and I know the chain his engineer asked for was a U87, into Avalon 737. I don't know if I can recommend either for what you're trying to do. If you want a tube mic go with 47 but I think you might find more value in a U87 style of microphone

    • @SoundScienceMediaWorks

      You nailed it exactly.
      The proximity effect on a u87 is a large part of the modern “Travis Scott” style vocals .
      Really hard to get that from the tube mics since the the tube mics really excel at capturing the air and clarity across the top .
      For what he wants it needs to be the 87

  • @failnerdddddd

    I’m having a real hard time justifying buying my preferred choice of the Telefunken TF51 now because this lol. For the price of the WA251 and WA73 EQ together I’d be paying less than the TF51 alone. In your opinion does the combo of WA251 coupled with WA73EQ surpass what I’d be getting out of the TF51 alone? I know quality of what you capture in any recording setting is one of the most important thing’s. It’s a tough choice for me right now.

    • @AtmosphereAudio
      @AtmosphereAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think the WA251 with the WA73EQ is the better option. To put it simple a pre-amp will make a world of difference. Plugging an expensive mic into a converter (interface) is doing the expensive mic a disservice. This is my opinion though, so take that with a grain of salt

    • @CHAOSMOVEMENT
      @CHAOSMOVEMENT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AtmosphereAudio Probably depends more on your goals. Preamps add something to the signal. How much depends on the preamp. For some applications you may want the mic to be the only factor. For many vocals though I would think you would mostly benefit from it.

    • @AtmosphereAudio
      @AtmosphereAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CHAOSMOVEMENT I mean i don't disagree with you at all on that point. I would just say most Interface pres are pretty limiting to mics. An expensive mic might sound cheap because there is no external Pre. It's my personal opinion at the end of the day but I find most vocals without a pre pretty underwhelming

    • @CHAOSMOVEMENT
      @CHAOSMOVEMENT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AtmosphereAudio Surely, I would concede that most digital interface preamps are not sufficient. I have both a Focusrite Scarlett Octopre Dynamic and an RME Fireface UFX II, so my take on using those preamps independently are certainly bias and outside the realm of the bulk of home studio users.

    • @AtmosphereAudio
      @AtmosphereAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      So it's funny that you mention the upside down mic. So tube mics are the one mic that benefit from being upside down because of the tube inside the mic. Hot air rises and if the tube heats up then the diaphragm will heat up as well. So If you put the mic upside down you can have the heat from the tube not heat up your mics diaphragm. A hot diaphragm could lower the sound quality. Regular condenser mics just look cool upside down, no real benefit. Thanks for watching the video!!!

    • @AtmosphereAudio
      @AtmosphereAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually remember how in my video I mentioned the mic sound more like an AKG C12VR then a it does a Telefunken ELA M 251? Well I used a stereo pair of C12's for Overheads before and it sounded great. I don't see why this mic couldn't perform the same way. In my personal opinion though I always Preferred AKG 414s or U87s for Overheads, the C12s as room Mics.

      @@Daviddosi I agree, I have never been a huge fan of a digital Pre-Amp. I just don't feel like you can get the sonic characteristic of an amp with out that circuitry. For example, the gain of a preamp can't be replicated when it can only gain up as much as the real preamp inside the unit allows, also you can't replicate a tube when there are no tubes inside the unit. Just my opinion at the end of the day but I have been using the Apollo and analog pres for years so I feel like my opinion does hold some weight. I hope I was helpful to you :)

I think that a U87 clone gives you the most amount of value simply because picking out the differences becomes harder in a blind test. My personal favorites are the Stam 87 (Favorite), Peluso 87 (Runner up), the Warm Audio WA87 (doesn't sound like a u87 to me because the top end is a bit brighter) and if you're handy a DIY kit such as the Mic Mod u87 can save you quite a bit of money and give you a lot of value. I just think the mic is super bright, which is okay on the right application such an acoustic guitar, It lacks in detail in other frequencies. I have made it sound good paired with a Avalon 737 which is pretty dark but that's kind of working backwards in my opinion. • @AtmosphereAudio
      @AtmosphereAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Jack, the answer your question is simple. No you cannot. All Tube microphones require a power supply because of the power required to drive a tube and the components. Technically speaking all Condenser microphones require a type of power supply in a way, when ever you turn on 48v or phantom power that's technically a power supply for the mic. The exceptions to this rule are Dynamic microphones and Most Ribbon Microphones, which even then depending on your preamplifier, you might need to add a "sound level Booster" in order to get these microphones to a usable sound level. Your voiceover sounds terrible. Why not record through the mic?

      I didn't have a dedicated mic at the time, I do now. I know it sound the best but horrible is a really harsh way to describe it man... It's really "that" bad?

      To answer your question, it was simply because I wasn't looking at the mic when I was speaking. A lot of my videos are experimenting till I find what works for me and what you guys like. I take everyone's feedback very seriously

    Sorry. Sounds cheap. Pull that microphone apart and look at it and there is not $50 worth of parts in there. This microphone should only be about $200 and it still sounds cheap. There are way way better microphones out there for the money.

      Hello, which microphones would you recommend over these WA models? I would definitely appreciate the advice 🙏🏼

      @@manuellujan5625 anything from Stam Audio is good. I deal with mics in my commercial studio every day that run a very wide price range. With microphones you really typically do get what you pay for for the most part compared to a lot of other Audio products. If you only have a few hundred dollars to buy something then something from WA may suit your needs. But it still sounds cheap to me. The Bock/Soundelux 151/251c are fantastic values and can give you the build quality that will last and they are built by the guy that was in charge of refurbishing the original Vintage Telefunken mics for them for 20 years. Find one of those mics if you want that sound. I think I paid around $2,000 US for my 251c. If that is still out of your price range look into the ADK mics. Incredible build quality. I have a good friend of mine that has a whole locker full of those various models and loves them. The other thing I would possibly look for would be a Paluso 251.
