    Another tip: If you're having problems with adb, like it's saying offline when running it in the command prompt, it could be that you need a newer version. I used "Minimal ADB and Fastboot" which worked. It's much easier, you just install it and then open it. It automatically opens a command prompt and you can then type "adb devices". IMPORTANT! If you do this method make sure you place the "samsung_unlock_n4_fix" in the program file "Minimal ADB and Fastboot" is located in. Otherwise you won't be able to successfully push it when in the command prompt (the part in the video at around 7:00).
    Sorry if I'm blowing up the comments but no one else seems to be helping here so I'm posting comments as I hit problems and posting the solutions I discover. Hopefully this will help others out if they have the same issue.

    Your fix involving the removal of the SD card after boot-loop was genius. I experienced the same issue, and that fixed it. Many thanks!

    This was amazing to learn! My Note4 SM-910V verizon model w/Marshmallow 6.0.1 resisted rooting for days, then I downgraded to Lollipop 5.1.1 and followed this tutorial with its files and prog versions, and it went almost perfectly. Root Detector kept telling me I wasnt rooted after KingRoot said it succeeded so I ignored it and proceded to the DOS section where I got the SU prompts the video confirmed was "a good thing indicating success so far". Only two runs thru the video and my Note 4 is rooted and running root-only scripts in the amazing app Tasker. I am very, very happy, but I have to echo the requests of your other commentors: Please build a Marshmallow 6.0.1 guide and files bundle that works as reliably as this!

    The one stop I never saw in the discription was the 'no auto reboot' then the button combo......I must say, I watched this on my desktop w/o speakers and got it done! SICK

    Had to take 6.0.1 back to 5.1.1 to do this, but this method still works. Got stuck on a boot loop after all was done but thankfully someone posted the kernel needed for 5.1.1 in the comments here and it worked. Used King Root, kept trying for about an hour and it finally worked. I think it worked when I was connected to wall charger not computer, then once rooted plugged into computer to run abd commands.

    I can't temp root with King Root anymore; it just reboots after 55% or less. I used to use it all the time and in fact it was working a month ago. I don't understand what changed I didn't update firmware. Does anyone know what I can do? I see I'm not the only one with this issue.

    For those of you having trouble with kingroot getting stuck at 53% - xx% and/or failing to root, give kingoroot a try. I've been trying for almost a week now just to get past the root step. Kingroot failed every time (desktop version, multiple app versions, etc.), but kingoroot worked THE FIRST TIME I pressed the button. I hope others have the same success with this. Big thanks to rootjunky, as always, for the great tutorials.

    • @chriskj2006able
      @chriskj2006able 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I downloaded kingoroot and it shown root successful however when i checked it with root checker it shown not rooted, any other steps you had taken?

    • @matthewrigsby4502
      @matthewrigsby4502 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Christopher Jackson Give it a few more times. If root checker doesn't ever show it green, run the adb lines of code anyway. If the "su" line of code is successful, then it doesn't matter what the check tool shows. SU is what you need anyway. For further guidance (and an in depth tutorial) head over to Max Lee's channel and watch his latest video on note 4 rooting.

    I think you forgot to mention to flash the custom kernel located on the original post, I was in a boot loop for the longest time, I got scared lol, then I went to check out the original post on the xda developers website and I read that that's an important part of the process to prevent boot loops. Other then that this video tutorial was great and I really appreciate you for making it.

      +ImTechFreak You are correct. I got everything complete, booted up, all excited went into TWRP to flash the supersu zip. After flashing it i got stuck in a boot loop. Flashing a kernel fixed it for me.

    Tip: If your experience is anything like mine *YOUR PHONE WILL RESTART MANY TIMES!* I used the newest version of KingRoot (version 4.9.6 as of 09-02-2016). My phone restarted 6 times in the middle of KingRoot. I would then have to open the app again and it would continue where it left off. I finally got root but then the phone didn't work right and after restarting it, it froze on the Verizon boot screen. So I pulled the battery which made me lose root once it restarted. Finally after that I ran KingRoot AGAIN and it ran smooth, rooting the phone in one shot.
    So basically don't get scared if you have restarts. In the new version of KingRoot it even tells you this might happen on the bottom of the screen. Worse comes to worse you can always pull the battery and your phone will revert back to the way it was before you ran KingRoot.
    *EDIT:* After getting frustrated on my second root I used *King O Root* instead and it worked the first time.

    the app I use I believe it's the kingroot v3.3 or something so when it's done and u go to rootchecker a window will pop up, it's a kingroot superuser request. Hit allow and I have temparary root access. I just not fast enough to copy and paste all the commands. So frustrating.

  • @jamesbarber2868

    Hey root junky, awesome vid, thanks for putting this up!
    The TWRP image you and the XDA thread point to does not support data decryption from inside TWR (confirmed with 'adb shell twrp decrypt PASS'). Without decryption I cannot make a Nandroid backup or flash SuperSU. I have tried downloading TWRP 3.0.2-0 from TeamWin's site and TAR'd to load into Odin, but Odin crashes when the file is loaded. Would you happen to have tested this or know why Odin is crashing? I can only find links to TAR'd versions of 2.8.5.0 and 2.8.7.0...

      I have to do this.. I still have note 4 which I wanna still use as a spare from my note 8, it's been having that random reboot on its Marshmallow OS and even trying wake lock didn't work, event contacted the developer who's said they couldn't figure it out why it didn't work. So I hope reverting to Lollipop will fix it.

    Does anyone know if there is a way you can flash SuperSu using TWRP(or any other method of flashing) on stock ROM and not get a bootloop afterwards? I'd prefer not to install a custom ROM as when I installed cm13 on the note 4 I got sound quality issues on certain apps.

    • @HomesByGlen
      @HomesByGlen 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jacob Andrews NEVER allow TWRP to auto install SuperSU when it asks you!
      After you install TWRP via ODIN, reboot into recovery, THEN you can install SuperSU manually via TWRP.

I flashed stock firmware via ODIN and re installed TWRP on my device but wasn't able to successfully flash SuperSu. Maybe I'm rooting the wrong version of SuperSu? I tried V.2.46 and restored a TWRP backup of the system then tried V.2.65 and both caused bootloops.

    • @HomesByGlen
      @HomesByGlen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jacob Andrews In case you were not informed, you need to load a custom kernel as well. You can do it in twrp.
      I'm currently using MultiSystem-Kernel_LP-5.1.1; I could not get Emotion kernel to load in twrp.
      Once I finished all that, I wiped the Dalvick Cache and Cache only.
      Then powered down using twrp. Then pulled batt. and sdcard. Re-install batt with no sdcard and let it boot up all the way into VZW stock rom. It will take a while to boot up first time...

    Things to do BEFORE you use KingRoot *IMPORTANT*:
    1) BACK UP ALL FILES ON SD CARD TO PC!
    a) Simply connect your device to your computer
    b) Make sure the Note 4 is set for media transfer, the option will be in the drop down from the top of the phone once usb is connected.
    c) Copy over files from S card (and phone if you want) to a folder on your PC just like you would with any USB stick
    2) FORMAT SD CARD. *AFTER* backing up the card you will have to format the card through the phone in the settings under storage > SD Card > Format SD CARD
    3) Make sure you are running android version 5.1.1. If you are not here is a link with all firmware versions and instructions on how to up/downgrade firmware : forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/development/firmware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t2942937
    Here is a TH-cam video also showing you how to change your firmware using Odin: th-cam.com/video/2unAeVRqjoQ/w-d-xo.html
    4) Download *NEWEST VERSIONS* of all files from this video. Best way to do this is do a google search for the file follwed by "XDA". i.e. "KingRoot xda". This will bring you to the xda forum to make sure you get authentic, verified and current versions of the files listed in the vid (many of them have been update since this vid was posted).
    5) Make sure to download "eMMc Brick checker" from play store. Run it and make sure the phone CID starts with a "15". If it doesn't *STOP HERE!*
    6) Download "Root Checker" to check if root was successful after rooting.
    7) Also make sure "Developer" Mode is open and USB debugging is enabled. You can turn it on by going to: Settings > About Phone > then click on "Build Number" ten (10) times to unlock the option.
    8) Make sure "Reactivation Lock" in *UNCHECKED*. Go to Settings > (under "Personal") Security > (and under "Find My Mobile") uncheck "Reactivation Lock"
    9) Finally in: Settings > (under "Personal") Security, make sure "unknown sources" is checked.

    Does this only work on 6.0.1? Has ANYONE had any luck with unlocking the bootloader on 6.0.1? Also, if I unlock my bootloader and root, is there a way to alter the LTE bands the phone is working on? I"m wanting to do this on my Note 4 to take it to Cricket, and thus far the only two things happening wrong on Cricket are: 1. No LTE, 2. I get a message that says non-Verizon SIM inserted, but the phone is otherwise working absolutely fine. I get up to H+, just not LTE. Thanks for any help anyone can give!

    Well, I finally got it to take after about 5 tries. I've got TWRP installed and did the nand backup then it asked if I wanted to install SuperSU. After I let TWRP install SuperSU, I'm in a boot-loop now. Pulled the battery and SD card to no avail.
    Should I Restore my backup from TWRP or will that mess up the unlocked boot-loader and Developer mode???
    DAMN! I was soooo close too!!!
    (SM-N910V running android 5.1.1, Now Developer Edition, (was Retail), installed/ran Kingroot about 5x before I could actually run the commands without the phone freezing up,.. Loaded TWRP 2.8.5.0., did nand backup to internal memory, powered off and pulled battery and sd card. Continues to boot up until the Verizon logo, then loops.
    I CAN get into TWRP menu and download mode too. :)
