It isnt based on the danger faced by the inhabitants/tourists of nations otherwise this list would be a mixture of middle/south america and central/southern african nations this is why atleast in my opinion the GPI isnt really the best tool to rank how dangerous a country is.
The GPI of a country seems to be heavily based on potential future violence and not hard numbers.
Imo the 3 main factors should be 1:Murders per 100k 2:Total Murders 3:Government based murders/executions couse at the end of the day what more can one lose than their own or the life of a loved one
-Russia only features in one of the 3 that bein total murders where they are in 9th place
-The most dangerous west asian nation would be iraq 40th place in murders per capita 19th in total murders and 7th in executions

I have been to all of these countries several times and the situation has not always been wonderful,but most certainly not as dangerous as they are now, dirty in some regions and you had to be careful as far as the food was concerned and one was not supposed to go out at night,but that is also the case in some western countries and there are others who are responsible too.

I've actually been in Mexico this past month and I haven't had any problems at all with the people here. In fact it actually seems more safer than the US, especially here in Querétaro in central Mexico.
