Doesn't work for me, can't find shares neither through ip address, or name of the server.
My TV and Windows pc can see smb share, but ChromOS doesn't.

The reason is that my TP Link router has samba protocol SMB2_02. Chrome OS supports smaba >= SMB2_10.

This method doesn't appear to work with anything outside the subnet though. So external work servers for ex, it appears to consider them "wrong". Do you have this working?
For now I installed Nautilus in Linux and use that for WAN file sharing.

When I do that none of my network shares show up. When I manually type in I get an error saying not found on network

So useful! I'm looking at replacing my aging 2011 13" Macbook Pro with a new Asus Gaming Chromebook and this will totally come in handy. Thanks!

this didnt work until I enabled SMB3.
in DSM control panel: File services, SMB/AFP/NAS tab, SMB, Check enable SMB service, press Advanced settings button, Maximum SMB protocol, SMB3.
    worked straight away after that.

Pardon me, but what happened to the subsequent links and videos for "How To Install Linux On Your Chromebook" from two years ago?

I'm not sure what you mean.. are you wondering about an updated video?
I have this one from about a year ago: th-cam.com/video/l2__5omnfQ8/w-d-xo.html
I'm happy to do another update, but not much has changed, in terms of the setup, since that last one.

@@Eevnos set up Linux on your chromebook in 2021, at the end you said there would be more to follow and that you'd post links. I've finished that video and have a folder labeled, "Linux Apps", that only opens the terminal. There are no apps to access. If correct I think that was the next step, a tutorial on how to actually download Linux apps. Several persons have been asking about it for quite some time.

@@Raymond_Petit I’ll have to go back and check it out, I may need to add some links as I do have several videos on installing apps, installing app stores, etc..
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll look into it.

This is very useful. Question - i help support a small non profit library. I have a mix of ChromeBOXes, and pc’s running ChromeOSFlex. I want to create a shared folder using an external drive with some data (genealogy) that can be accessed by all the devices, very simply (most users are older and less computer savvy). I have no useable USB on my router, and no NAS. Can i do this?
