    Why do people make fun of this guy? He helps to provide the water you use every day. Are you all so terribly ignorant that you are unaware of how lucky we are to have water which won't kill us when we drink it? I find this video quite fascinating as I was curious in regards to the amount of energy that is required to treat wastewater. This hasn't answered all of my questions, but it did answer far more than other videos I have seen.
    Thanks to the people who produced this video.

      Most sites are gravity fed. Depending on how big the population is around the area
      and how many towns and villages it treats .. the stricter the consent are to discharge in the river.

      Its a continuous process, but it also depends on what youre referring to. The clear treated water in an extended aeration process will make it through theoretically in a few days but the bad stuff that gets removed by the bacteria takes longer because the bacteria use it as food just like the bacteria in your stomach. Those can stay in the process, the mlss and bod, for several days and that is measured by a formula called mean cell residence time or MCRT.

    The cake solids would have to be heat treated because they contain about every nastiness known to man and the crops would absorb that. The landfill that takes our solids pulls methane off it to run an ethanol plant.

    I have noticed the anaerobic digesters at different wwtp's are different sizes. Back River WWTPs digesters are 2 egg shaped domes with a tower inbetween and a bridge going from the tower over the digesters. And the funny thing is the digesters are literally the same color as the Pittsburgh Steelers black and gold and I do find that amusing.

    does this water just go back to a river/sea or do people actually use it?? i just want to be aware if i was drinking or washing treated sewage water all these years...

    • @erosi5974
      @erosi5974 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Khalid ws The effluent (treated water) is discharged into the receiving water (Stream, Lakes, Rives, Ocean etc), so yes, the water goes back into the rive/sea and people use it. You have probably drank and washed with treated wastewater. Don't be alarmed.

    • @javicantu1
      @javicantu1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Khalid 90 In a way... all water is reused somehow. Specific permits allow the discharge of this water into rivers/streams/sea. These permits require the water have no adverse impact to the environment they discharge on. There is still a huge stigma with people drinking or washing with treated sewage water, so a direct discharge to a drinking water supply is not allowed is most every area of the United States. However, this doesn't keep the streams that are being used as discharge port from discharging to a lake, that may possibly be used as a drinking water source. By the time this water is picked up, it has gone through wastewater treatment, natural treatment in the creeks and lakes, and then water treatment for drinking water. Don't be alarmed. It's part of the natural world, the water cycle that is. New water doesn't just appear out of nowhere.

    3) i know that in usa to operate in this field a license is required.
    4) i do not have any license because is not a requirement to work for the company i am working for.

      bigmuscles81 LOL Right now I am trying to get a job at a waste water treatment plant. It's so hard to get into now here in California. I already took two courses from Sac State, currently working on my third vol, but I also need on the job training and "experience."

    • @javicantu1
      @javicantu1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +bigmuscles81 I see you wrote your comment a year ago, but to somewhat answer some of your questions and concerns: Each state has its own process for licensing individuals. Since you have industry experience, you may be able to use that over hear when you apply for a license. The application usually requires you provide a resume with experience, and pay a fee. One you have your license I find there is a lot of need for good operators here in the US. But it is a hard industry to get into.
      You don't have to have a license to work at a plant, but you do have to have one to be able to climb the management ladder and actually call the shots. Some of the larger cities will require you to get a basic license (what we call a type D in texas) to even be an assistant. This license requires you take an exam to show that you are competent in local laws, and doesn't require experience.

      In the UK we have qualifications called LTO ( licence to operate) which all employees must have or earn (But it's not essential to have, as long as your committed to learn) Which the company pay for and we have to complete 7 UNITS.

    • @chiefsb.3784
      @chiefsb.3784 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scott Huhn Have you checked the air pumping into the Aeration basin? And your contact basin? Also check the effluent leaving your plant. If there is any TSS in it, high chance that with the chlorine is causing ammonia to affect the plant.

      The toilet paper gets trapped by the screen at the beginning of the process. As for the chemicals, it depends. Some will be broken down and some will pass right through the plant.

    • @sarahkorver2439
      @sarahkorver2439 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      All treatment plants are different, I'm from the u.k and the city were I live in lincoln , they only treat the effluent water, not the sludge as our sludge gets pumped to be de watered to dry cake, the moist is monitored to make sure its correct before its treated, my center de waters the dry cake to 24% to 25% depending on bulk, if this isnt correct it will effect the process at the other treatment centre, when it's ready to be collected 40mins away from lincoln to another treatment centre were it gets treated there for bio solids or for biogas, then the rest to be moved on again to another site for the farmer to use .
