    I've just bought my second XR1200 so now have the base model and the later X. I've owned a few other HD models but have to say the XR1200 has delivered the widest ride smile, and with plenty of good addon bits you can make a fantastic bike into an awesome bike.... From Australia, Best Wishes.

    Hello, Can you say a little about the long term ownership of this bike? I am working on my list of 5-6 bikes I would like to consider purchasing but don't see much owner comment on the XR other than it is fun to ride, handles well excellerates hard and so on. Do the belts break? Is the tank range OK, can you do 150 miles in relative comfort, has anything failed or repeatedly failed and needs looking after? I have not had a HD since I had a 1989 Roadhugger and my opinion was tank range was bad 71 Miles till you were walking, Seat was uncomfortable, Shocks were bad, brakes were wooden and weak, top speed was too slow 89 MPH tops, and the exhaust burnt your riding gear .... All that said it was fun for around town. It looks like this bike would take care of a bunch of my issues I had with the old Hugger. I am currently on a 2000 Speed triple that I will likely just keep.

    • @dirkhicks
      @dirkhicks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I suppose it depends on expectations. This bike will not make it 150 miles on a tank typically. I am usually filling up in the 110 range. Long term reliability is generally good. If you abuse it, it will break. If you care for it, it will last. I've had this bike longer than any other and don't plan on selling it anytime soon. So far, 8 years but not many miles. I am too busy to get to ride much.

      I passed when it was safe to do so. If you watch the entire video you'll see that in my area, rural farm roads do not have marked passing zones.
      Missouri state statute 304.016 states that passing is permitted if the "left side is clearly visible and is free of oncoming traffic for a sufficient distance ahead to permit such overtaking and passing to be completely made without interfering with the safe operation of any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction or any vehicle overtaken."

    • @jroberthadden
      @jroberthadden 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My point was that it seemed to me that there should NOT have been double yellows in these stretches of roads. I was not criticizing your decision to pass. I was questioning the reason for the double yellow.

    • @dirkhicks
      @dirkhicks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jroberthadden ah I misread your intent. Yeah. They don't mark passing zones on secondary roads around here.

    • @AndieBlack13
      @AndieBlack13 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dirkhicks I noticed that too, your crossing the double-yellow, I guess in your state it is a "suggestion" rather than a statute, prone to interpretation. I did note you went wide in a turn at 5:31 ....why?...I'm assuming you should know every turn, ripple in the road, crack, rise, etc. I ride an exacting line, a tire placement if you will...especially on a well known piece of road. I'll assume your HD is new for you & the handling quirks are a learning experience...when watching I tensed up my right arm, pushing the phantom bars down to tighten up the turn.

      @@dirkhicks sounds like a fun little unit! I mean, different motors the sense that it has a beefed up 1200 evo shared with the XL. It has sweet factory upgrades as I am sure you are well aware of haha The downdraft throttle body, bigger cams than the XL and a lightened flywheel make it a beast, plus the XR has much better brakes and suspension than the XL tho as I'm sure you know lol. The XR1200 is the best handling and quickest Harley stock for sure. The Vrod might be a bit faster but they don't compare in the handling department. I have an s&s teardrop breather, vance and hines stainless 2-1, vance and hines fp3 tuner, screamin eagle plugs and wires, Feuling 505/515 cams installed right now. I have an s&s 1250cc big bore, feuling endurance beehive valve springs, feuling hp+ lifters, hammer peformance sledge pushrods, Buell bronze oil pump gear and a tmf chain conversion, with a little more bottom end gearing but not much different than stock that I will be installing when I get the bike back. I just finished putting 13 inch progressive 490 sport series shocks and adjustable monotube cartridge fork kit, 11.5 inch brembo floating rotors front and rear(not on yet, I had a bracket made to fit the larger rear rotor size from the older sportsters with the new 2 pot HD caliper) a speed merchant bracket to fit a tokico 4 piston radial caliper from a gsxr1000, braided lines, xr1200 master cylinder, barnett extra plate clutch plates, barnett pressure plate, barnett 25% diaphram spring, 1fngr easy pull levers, magnum clutch cable, saddlemen step up seat, westcoast 10 inch mx tbars, steering damper, gauge relocation, hd customizable tach, oil temp level/temp gauge, master cylinder fuel gauge, carbon fiber side panels and front fender (the rear fender didnt get installed yet) and some gloss black HD engine parts like chopped cam chest and primary case in October and an old lady hit me when I was 700 meters from my house to store it for the winter on November 21. The bike is fixable luckily, me and her car took all the damage (5 broken ribs, shoulder, severed ligaments from my collarbone to shoulder, punchured lung, and road rash). I'll add a video a friend of mine took of the bike right after the accident happened. All the stuff on the road is from her car in the video, so with that being said I am waiting to get the bike back so I can finish the motor built, rear brakes and chain conversion, send the heads to be ported and pokished and fix the little things like the shift shaft, foot brake and the levers and mirrors. Safe to say the bike is my baby, but after I fix it I will be on the hunt to pick up an XR1200...and maybe fire a turbo on it😂 sorry for the long winded post, I have all the time in the world while I am off work healing up! Again, fuckin love the XR man, never sell it becsuse it will be worth a fortune and like I said, best production HD ever! I'll toss the video of the bike on my channell now!
