    Nice car, I’m driving a ‘08 grand marquis and I’m looking forward to getting one of these oldies!

    I like how them old school Grand Marquis are so similar to the LTD Crown Victorias in every way (have an '89 LX), only slightly more luxurious. Beautiful, great condition Mercury.

    Really nice car. These looked so much better with the optional formal brougham roof which you have. I remember looking at this exact model on the dealer lot and wanting either a Light Titanium or Dark Titanium LS. This was the best color.

    • @paulparoma
      @paulparoma 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the roof was standard on all models. A very nice feature.

    • @AlexanderCrump
      @AlexanderCrump 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paulparoma That roof was optional on the Grand Marquis beginning around 1982 and Ford later made it available on the Crown Victoria a year or so later. I would estimate that one quarter or less of the production of both Fords and Mercurys had this option. It's a shame because I think the car looks so much better with it.
      The treatment includes an extra cap that is welded into the rear window opening which extends the roofline a little bit, makes the C-pillar fatter and more upright, and makes the rear window more upright and smaller.

    • @paulparoma
      @paulparoma 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AlexanderCrump Oh, I see what you mean. Yes, that was certainly optional and not often seen. My '86 Grand Marquis had it, and I've always liked that more-formal look.

      Cinnabar Metallic for me, with NO vinyl roof. I wanted to MARRY that car . . . all I could afford was a Ford Festiva at the dealer across the street.

    • @AlexanderCrump
      @AlexanderCrump ปีที่แล้ว

      @@borisratnik9032 Was Cinnabar more of a pink metallic? I remember it. I also liked some '80s sedans without the vinyl roof. I always wanted a Cadillac de Ville without the vinyl top but those were pretty rare. Same with the Electra and Ninety-Eight. I think it was standard on all boxy Town Cars.

    I was fortunate to be able to purchase in January of this year a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 50th Anniversary Edition one of only 250 built with this trim package in dark blue metallic with full blue carriage roof and gold exterior trim and trunk lid luggage rack in showroom condition with only 67,000.0 miles. What do you call the lights at the front bottom of the fender? The ones that turn on (steady ) when you click the turn signal?

    • @ze_german2921

      @landshass2849 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ze_german2921 the lights close to the front tires at the bottom work only when you click your turning signal. I can see them in this car since this trim is highest. They don't come with basic trim. Anyway, they're history now, no car maker have them.

    • @AlexanderCrump
      @AlexanderCrump 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are called cornering lamps because they are intended to light the roadway in the direction of a turn. I doubt they were ever very useful, but I loved the look of them on higher-end luxury cars.
