The tone reminds me of order of ecclesia, the last DS Castlevania. Looks really cool, gonna have to check this one out, thanks for the highlight
I did find myself comparing the mapping system to Hollow Knight and Ori. I think they could have done something a little better than what they went with. It reminds me of the outlining mechanisms from the days of my programming and network security classes rather than a world map. I still think the game is worth it though.
Another Metroidvania? Well at least the art style is lovely!

The world is depressing, suffocating and overwhelmingly beautiful. Each stories of the main spirits are well written and realistically human. The endings are top notch too.
I genuinely hope that this game got enough positive reception for the devs to consider making a sequel or a similar game of sorts. Definitely one of the recent metroidvanias that stands among memorable titles like Blasphemous, or Bloodstained.
It's getting great reviews on Steam.
I still need to finish blasphemous, I got annoyed with bloodstained at a certain point and gave up
@@TROBassGuitar did you get around to finishing Blasphemous? Now is a great time as they just dropped their last update and it added even more awesome bosses and whatnot to find.

Great review, reminds me of a cross between child of light with a aesthetic of salt and sanctuary and art style of odins sphere. Im a sucker for hand drawn fantasy art. It doesnt feel as accomplished as a legendary vanillaware game, but it looks really decent still and will be picking this up.

Salt is one ofy favorite games ever. This looks like a mix of that and hk
I ADORED Child of Light. Not nearly enough people talk about it. It's one I'm proud to own physically, but I do wish it had got a stand-alone release instead of being packaged with Valiant Hearts. It would have made a decent display piece.
I couldn’t have said it any better. I have to check out odins sphere tho. I havent heard of that one.
Just finished it 5 mins ago. All endings. It was great! I would've loved it if maybe there was more audio or talking dialogs, but so far I really enjoyed it!

Took me four hours to get into this game - thought it was well boring in the beginning, but as the difficulty ramps up and you gain more weapons and such - it becomes ace. Love it now (12 hours in). Must buy for metroidvania-fans.
after finishing it do you still recommend pushing through the first hours?

Definitely excited about this one! Love the art style- my sense is that it has that warm vs cool palette that you see in movies like Minority Report where it’s almost like a black and white movie but they used orange and blue for emphasis vs background. The way Ender Lillies uses red, purple, and blue sets up a lot of depth.
Not long ago i was trying to describe the same look. I think its desaturated, in terms of photo editing. Just a notch or two away from total b & w. Its a unique look that im surprised has been used a little more. I can see why it might be passed over for an entire games look but it could be used for one world or area. It would be neat to progress through an area and more color comes into it as you do. I actually really like that idea. Hell you could make it fit into part of the story.

I'm playing on pc, on an ssd. Loadtimes are near instantaneous.
Cant speak for the console versions, but the game seems pretty lightweight to me

This is one I’ve been waiting for y’all to review, I love the amount of Metroidvania and dark souls type games that the switch has. I just picked up Morbid the second acolytes yesterday and it’s great!

@@TheRealAero all the weapons are really cool I mainly stuck with the great sword and the trident the (trident is so cool!) I'm gonna do multiple playthroughs just because the weapons are so fun and the characters models for each acolyte is so cool and unique!
That little dive is amazing and I find it the most adorable thing ever! I'm gonna have to pick this up after I get my Switch & Dread.
I really did expect a high score for this game. It looks so beautiful and I'm intrigued to play it at some point
So happy you reviewed this game! I recently finished it, got the true ending. I loved almost every second I spent with it so much. Definitely one of my favorites of the year. It doesn't do anything revolutionary, but what it does it does it very well. I was hooked on it for a few days, getting blown away by the art style and the music. I hope we see a sequel (or a prequel??) to this gem.

Really enjoying this one, even though it's quite challenging. Definitely good value, I tend to consider my rest time to be at least twice as valuable as my work time. As long as a game entertains me for double the length of time it took me to earn the money to buy it, I consider us square. That's also why my stingy employers will NEVER get me to work any overtime 😆

Assuming it's coming to the switch... and if it is, will it be day & date with the console versions?? I certainly hope the answer is yes to at least one of the above questions.
@@sofaking1180 considering Salt and Sanctuary took around 2 years to get ported on the Switch from it's original release, Salt and Sacrifice will not be available on the Switch for a while. As for performance and visuals, i don't think it would be too taxing on the Switch. Maybe some shaders will be skipped, and some textures will be lowered in quality.
All we can really do is wait and hope. 😁

Btw, I too found BOTW a bit too quiet so I’m glad that I’m not the only one 😂 I’m the type that can be heavily influenced by music so I love games that have good scores.

Thank you for bringing this game to my attention. Right now my stack is full for the next couple of months Ghost of Tsushima (currently playing), Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, No More Heroes III, Metroid Dread, Monster Sanctuary and so on but I REALLY want to play this game. Looks like the anime Angel's Egg meets a Metroid.

I thought the game looked beautiful. I agree with the controls feeling tight.
I'm very happy with it. I thought the baseball diving slide looked odd too. I,
would guess they went that way instead of a standard feet first slide because
if we're sticking with realism her dress would slide up if she went feet first.
then they'd have to animate her fixing her dress each time or say "magic"
keeps it from sliding up .

I've been considering this one for a while. It looks absolutely gorgeous, but I was unsure about the actual gameplay. Glad to hear it's pretty good!
Incidentally, I don't know if it's intentional but it's super reminiscent of (a dark version of) Child of Light for me. Maybe it's the floatiness, but also something about the way the backgrounds look.

Hey Mark, top notch review, mate and I might have even considered it had I not had a number of must play Metroidvanias languishing in my backlog.
Also, off topic question this, but would you recommend Sniper Elite 4 at full price? It's not seen a discount for ages on Switch (maybe surprisingly).
I loved Sniper Elite 3 and I'm generally a sucker for a good Second World War themed title but the price does put me off a tad.

this gives me a feels gud to get gud vibe. the sound track might need more hype tracks. I loved how dmc5 ost kinda reacts and rewards your combo chains

i bought it yesterday after beating grime on the PC...i was kinda worried when you said it's kind of short in the beginning but 20 hours is totally ok for a good metroidvania imo
It reminds me of Child of Light, which I loved, although the battle system for CoL was different.
