Sören Sieg: Canarie. Played & filmed by Trio Brunswick (Clara Bielert, Cornelia Struß, Sina Tammena)

This video won (together with Trio InVento) the second prize of the Sören Sieg Music Video Competition 2020!
The jury found that the Trio Brunswick played and recorded the theme and 4 variations brilliantly, found adequate pictures to the four very different variations, developed many convincing visual ideas, created dense atmospheres and cut the movements and pictures perfectly according to the music. Overall the video is sparking joy, and everything fits together: The music, the young musicians, the pictures, the movements, the situations, the landscape. The video is fun to watch from the beginning to the end, and it tells a coherent story.
The Trio Brunswick writes about itself:
"We are the Trio Brunswick, consisting of Clara Bielert (16), Cornelia Struß (18) and Sina Tammena (18). We have been playing together in the trio since summer 2019. Before that, we had played in numerous other ensembles and had been taking individual lessons at the Braunschweig Music School for many years. There we are also taught as a trio by Annette Berryman. We originally came together to take part in the “Open Recorder Days Amsterdam”. This was followed by participation in Jugend Musiziert 2020. Unfortunately due to Covid- 19 this competition was cancelled. So we were all the more pleased about the Sören Sieg music video competition. So we were able to face new challenges andsaw this as an opportunity to try new things. For the first time we filmed, edited and developed a music video on our own. Even after this project is over, we will continue to work together and hope that Jugend musiziert can take place again in full next year. Either way, we always have a lot of fun and enjoy playing together."
The Trio Brunswick wrote about the video:
"We decided to present a story about the music in our music video. The video shows an excursion with Trio Brunswick to the Harz Mountains. We start from Braunschweig main station, where we play the theme. The film begins in front of the main train station and ends with us getting on the train to Bad Harzburg. When we arrive in the Harz Mountains, the "joking" variation begins: a funny and joyful hike with the aim of reaching the Radau waterfall. We used a horn and a rattle to emphasize the playful and joking character. At the end of the variation, we jump for joy to express our enthusiasm that we have reached our destination (the waterfall) after a long but also fun hike. There we listen to the restless water and play the variation "restless". The opposing lines of sight and the rapid image changes are intended to underline the unrest. We also supported the restlessness in playing the bass voice with permanent vibrato.
Directly next to the waterfall is a cable car that we use to accompany the "longing" variation. The cable car took us to the castle hill where we enjoyed the view on the wonderful landscape. The cable car and the wide landscape represent our associations with the feeling of longing. The slow change of images also creates a calm, peaceful atmosphere.
Finally we end our excursion on the playground, which is located on the mountain top, with the "happy" variation. We chose this scenery because we associate happiness with childlike joy in playing and romping around in the sunny weather. With sputato, hold-ups and ties it becomes even funnier and more joyful. A successful day in the Harz Mountains ends with many different impressions and joy in making music."
