I assume the Q1 is built to my drawings available from Polly Model Engineering in UK, with a few mods, getting up to a decent speed and not short of steam. Looks to be running well, well done Derek!
Thank you very much for watching the video. It was a lot of fun filming Derek's Q1 and it was also enjoyable to have a go at driving the locomotive around the track.
@@railmediaproductions3677 Well I really enjoyed seeing another brother to my 3 Q1s take to the track. Derek really looked the part as well! I have a photo of the driver and fireman of a real Q1 taken in the 1940's, the driver bears a resemblance to Derek, I can send it on if he's interested.
As mentioned you need an artificial draught to get the fire going as anthracite(smokeless boiler fuel) is hard to light. Once the boiler has 20 psi on the gauge there is enough steam pressure to use the loco's own blower.
That Q1 is the finest loco ever built no splashers no running boards no frills like the Willis jeep just enough economical parts .
...and still butt ugly!
I wish I had the skill and patience to create something like that - congratulations to Derek Sandle.
Derek sure did a beautiful job of this locomotive. I am glad you enjoyed the video.
Q1 amazing loco. Wish the Bluebell still had it. Lovely model though.
looks great a very powerful machine just as the prototype was. welldone
Beautiful

I’d like to see it running with some rolling stock.
Video muy interesante.
It’s so ugly yet efficient
I would’ve filmed without permission.
Me. Shelldoing class 350 the magical engine
What’s the contraption on the funnel?
Hi Liam. I believe it helps with drawing the warm gasses from the firebox through the boiler during the light up process.
Hi again Liam. I will double check this information about the blower on the top of the chimney.

Q1 pog
