Melpathur Narayana Bhattathiri was a famous Indian poet and scholar who lived in the 16th century. He was a devotee of Lord Mahavishnu and a member of the Sangamagrama school of mathematics.
Early life:
Born in 1560 in a pious Brahmin family in Kerala
Studied the Vedas, Vedangas, Mimamsa, Tarka (logic), and Vyākaraṇa (Sanskrit grammar) from a young age
Became a pandit by the age of 16
Married his guru Achuta Pisharati's niece
Works:
Narayaneeyam: A devotional epic composed in the ninth decade of the 16th century
Sanskrit grammar: Works on Sanskrit grammar and other subjects
Legend:
According to legend, Bhattathiri voluntarily took on paralysis from his teacher
Composed a verse daily at the Lord Krishna temple to be cured
On the 100th day, he had a vision of Krishna and was healed
Lived to be 105 years old
