    I have 94k kilometers on my 2015 Crew Cab LTZ Silverado. Absolutely love it. I did have a horrible squeeky noise when switching between V4 and V8 which I learned it was from the exhaust flapper. The dealership initially didnt know what it was so they tried different things which didnt work. Eventually a GM bulletin came out and the dealer replaced the whole exhaust and problem was solved. I see the dealerships and services are becoming much better. Issues are common in any machine. This is a great truck, take care of it, it will take care of you for many years....Thanks for your video

    I have a 2011, and am looking at a lot of used 2014-2018s in my area, but might skip that generation altogether and wait a couple years for the 2019 to drop in value to $30k used.

      Meh these are minor issues that will be covered by warranty and are not guaranteed to happen, chances are you likely will have no issues for a long time. But if you're going to get a diesel, definitely delete it. Not only do you get a 2-4 MPG gain but you get better performance and it is a lot better for your motor so it will last longer, I would also tune it if you can afford it, will also give MPG gains and slightly better performance.

    I want to add to another issue that I've found with my 2014 sierra. When you change the in Cabin Air Filter behind the glove box, it is almost guaranteed that leaves and other debris will fall from the filter housing down into the blower motor cause it to have a terrible vent noise (like a prop plane departing). The blower motor wasnt the easiest task to remove either. Some of the bolts on the kick plate under the dash are not bad to remove, but installing them again is a royal pain. Tip that I have found us to slide a piece of cardboard under the cabin filter before removing.

    • @stevenvanheel3932
      @stevenvanheel3932 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The907alaska I changed cabin filters on these trucks constantly as my job earlier in my career. It’s no big deal to get leaves out of the blower motor. Just jam your arm in the hole and take them out. Or use a vaccum. Turn the blower on before you put the filter in and listen for the noise

    • @peepeesmelly1
      @peepeesmelly1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Easy fix to that ... After you pull the filter out out the camera on on your phone poke it in the blower and check the footage , secondly of you do have any leaves that made their way in . Get a small shop vac and adapt a small hose to it and fish the leaves out that way ... No need to remove the blower ....

    • @cmasters007
      @cmasters007 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That just happened to me. I had to take out the blower motor and there was one leaf in there that i couldn't vacuum out.

    Thanks for your heads-up with this post. I had a safety recall early in 2015 for the retractor on the driver's seat belt, I did not notice a problem with it but after the repair, the spring seemed weak and now it won't retract and it gets stuck in the door when I get out. Should have left it alone.

    Thanks, I think I need to take mine in for the power steering issue cause certain turns I make while driving at over 30mphs on the E-way cause a slight lock. I thought it was tires but tires have been changed and still the problem persists. I did however have the issue with the AC and had to get the whole system replaced, costed $1500 but has been working fine since. There is another recall for the power brake system, I think Im going to take it in and get it worked on. My radio works fine though, but like others I use mostly my phone or SD card filled with music or I listen to Satellite Radio so not much of an issue there. All and all great vid, and I love my Silverado!!!

    I have a 2014 5.3L WT Crew 4x4 that I bought used a year ago. The issues I have had so far are the column shift lever actuator rattles all the time while driving, theres an odd clunk coming from the rear when going over some surfaces or turning, and one night I left it in 4 wheel over night and the next morning the system went into neutral and would not engage 2w,4 low or 4 high. Took 10 minutes of fiddling with the lever and letting the truck roll a bit to get it to finally pop into gear. One big concern I have is once while pulling into traffic I let off the brake, started to roll into the lane, put the foot on the accelerator and the truck did nothing (no errors, no rpm just nothing) until I let off completely, then put my foot back down it finally moved. Only happened once but if this thing ever does that to me on the highway I am parking it for good.

    There is also a recall on the brake vacuum pump. I had mine replaced twice.
    The issue, after a drive, when you come to a complete stop, then coast to another stop (like stop and go traffic or drive thru) you will not be able to push down the peddle.(like air in the lines). Once you get going again at normal speeds it's ok.

    I have a 14 Silverado. It has 83,000 miles on the original tires and I deflate them often for off roading. I haven't had the AC issue but have read about it. The ONLY problem was Ball joints at 57,000 miles from all the off roading, I got the dealer to warranty them. I average between 21.6 and 23.2 MPG on the express way. I can tow two quad's and average an Ecoboosts mpg with their trucks empty. I would highly recommend one. My truck has been great!!

    Dustin T, i did not know about the issues about the AFM system in the 07 to 10 year model Silverado truck until I did some searching on my 2010 Silverado and ran across what other people were having issues with oil consumption, lifters calapse and camshafts failing due to owners not changing there oil like they should and when I bought my 2010 Silverado a little over a month ago, I have replaced the left side valve cover and replaced the dirty air Pcv tube. GM claims that the baffles in the valve cover would let some oil get caught up in the intake and when the next cold start the engine would have a puff of blue smoke come out of the tailpipe and so far so good, me replacing the valve cover I have not seen the blue smoke. I'm really hope that it is fix! I also have purchase the Range Technology AFM Disabler for my truck to not allow the truck to go into V4 mode and stay in V8 mode all the time. The device or chip does what it says it does. I have been impressed with it and my truck runs, in my opinion, better and the transmission shifts smoother. I really did my homework on the Range Disabler before I purchased it. I'm hoping that my engine will last a long time now that I have disabled the AFM system. Once I unplug the chip from the OBD2 port, the truck will go back the the AFM system working like factory specs. This is some of my experiences so far that I have seen or come across with my Silverado truck. Me too, have been a long time diehard Chevrolet fan and owner of these vehicles, that I'm hoping that they would continue to make a good or great trucks and cars. Great video as well, man

      @DustinT  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Egerton Ridout appreciate the support buddy! I’ve heard really good things about those chips. The 2014 transition from 4 to 8 cylinders is much much smoother. For what it costs for the chip, it’s probably not a bad idea to put them on all the 07-13 silverados

    I have a 2014 Silverado 1500. I bought mine about a year and a half ago with $139,000 mi on it I now have about $146,000 mi on it. Since I've had the truck, I did replace the leaf spring hangers and the leaf spring shackles. It was a fleet truck, and more than likely there was a heavy load or two which caused one of my hangers to break. Also more recently I did replace both the upper control and lower control arms as well as the outer tie rod ends. When I get new tires, that is when I will have the alignment performed. The other thing that I did end up doing on this truck deals with I believe it was the evac system. I could not feel my truck without it wanting to shut the gas nozzle off automatically. Ultimately I ended up replacing the gas cap, the solenoid under the hood, the switch at the frame rail, and the final Factor was the activated charcoal filter at the frame rail near the gas tank. This seems to have fixed my issue other than this, I have not had any issues with this truck. We shall see what a shop says when I bring it in for alignment.

    And FWIW having retired from the automotive industry focused on GM products, GM has always had AC issues gong back to at least the time GM ditched the "Axial 6 cylinder compressor in the late 70's.

    2 out of 10 of our 2014 fleet pickups have had the condenser issue. The AFM oil burning issue was 07-08. The problem is actually 2. 1 is the pcv valve in the valve cover is faulty and let's oil past and into your intake. and the AFM oil burning problem is the lack of a deflector on the oil pressure relief valve.

    There is another one that you should watch out for, and that is the oil cooler lines. it's apparently common in colder climates, but the rubber parts will expand and contract enough that they will actually start to sweat and spring a leak. i already had mine done under warranty. i haven't had an issue with the AC(but definitely will look into it), the steering was already done, and the radio is a non-issue for me. my sierra is a regular cab built in fort wayne

    A random rock, bird, or ect. Would and could puncture your condenser easily. I don’t have this problem anymore. As I have a good sized heat exchanger in front of it for the supercharger kit.
    As far as the steering issue. There are also grounding issues. Which are caused by not getting a good ground in the corner of the upper dash. Right next to the dash speakers. They used a sound deadening there. Which were pinched to the grounding stud. Which caused a bad ground. Easy fix. Pull the deadening away or cut it bigger to clear this stud.

      So, I heard the SC systemin general is hard on main and cam bearings because of the belts, why not medium sized turbo (50mm)? Is the cost the determining factor?
      I'm not saying your set up in bad, just curious of your decision.

    • @dirtydave82
      @dirtydave82 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheBlack Metal for me. I wanted the torque and power off the line for towing and for helping with my lift and bigger tires off the line. So the Magnuson was the way to go for me. As turbos and centrifugal supercharger tend to not make power until 2000-3000 rpms. Which also doesn’t help with the low end torque that I wanted. Next I have never had a problem with a belt driven supercharge causing problems on the bearings. I mainly went the route I did because it is proven power adder. Lingenfilter, Calloway, and Hennessy all use Magnuson for their power adders of choice. With no problems that I have heard off. Although they are running low boost with stock boltons. Where I do have added power from boltons, and a custom tune. Yet still running low boost.

    Bought my 2014 Silverado 4x4 LTZ brand new...never had any of these issues. Still runs/looks brand new. AC still ice cold, 5.3L strong, hideously quiet rolling down the road. Earlier this spring added a 2" front leveling kit (1" under the strut spacer deals), some AAL's in the back, and one size taller Michelin LTX AT2 tires (same width). Now the truck "looks" correct and rides smoother. It does kick down into "4-cylinder" mode more often now...and lugs. Never was a fan of that cylinder deactivation deal. My 2011 Silverado had that too.

      Replace the transmission with something different then Chevy one that is offered. I am having to replace my whole transmission. These new "adapted" transmissions have serious problems. Chevy made them to adapt to your driving patterns to make the transmission last longer so they said. The torque converter is horrible and ruins the rest of the transmission as well. It was know early on right after they built them. Dealers will tell you they are "know for the ruff shifts". I found out the hard way. There are MANY articles on this problem with this year!!!!

    I have 18 Z71 4x4 6.2 everytime I switch from reverse to drive i can hear a BIG CLICK SOUND in the transfer case. I wonder if its normal. I had a z71 4×4 year 2000 and it had the same click as this newer truck.

      The 6.2 is a complete savage man! i've pulled 8k put a 8% grade at 75 with it. It just has endless power. But the way gas prices are looking right now and it takes premium the 5.3 is attractive. Hope you enjoy the high country man ive been driving chevy my entire life and i've never been stranded. cant say the same for Ram or Ford trucks lol

      Mine also produces a slight sputter when stopping at high speeds. I am going to replace all four rotors and of course all the pads. I cannot say for sure that this is the issue. When I brought the truck into pep boys, they told me it was the lower ball joint. I have replaced both lower control arms and both upper control arms and I still have this slight sputter.

I also have factory GPS navigation without having to use on star. There’s a infotainment website that sells the upgrade kit that took just minutes to install on my truck. My problems I’ve had so far though is the A/C, the battery, a constant service trailer brake system warning, and a engine light for the air fuel ratio in the injectors... One thing I have run into on my 2014 chevy silverado 5.3, just this year is the # 6 in-take lifter collapsed and took out my cam shaft at 65819 miles, this happened durning COVID19 In March of 2021 because GM has a back log on parts because of the shut down.. I had to go with aftermarket cam shaft, new Valve springs, and in doing that we did the AFM DOD delete with Cam shaft.. it would have taken 4 and 1/2 weeks for a back ordered brand new stock cam shaft to come in... shortly after that was done in May they had to replace both Catalytic converters.

    I have a MY14 Sierra 4.3 SLE, the biggest issue I have is that sometimes the rear diff jerks at low speeds, It maybe a G60 but it a rare occurrence, Another thing my truck Sierra truck suck on is poor headlights at night and worst in the rain, the dealer did a firmware update to put out more voltage at the headlight outlet, but I changed the headlight from LEDs to HID. LED's are good but since DRL eat up the LEDs, I went with HIDs, I didn't change the projector, people do but I didn't it work fine, Also changed the foglight with some Amazon LED foglights, of course the bracket didn't work but nothing some black zip ties can't fix.
    My only gripe I have with my Sierra, Are the Cargo Lights, I had a 2002 Chevy 2500 HD I can turn on the foglight while driving, really helpful when driving at night or in rual areas that the un-offical way to tell the person behind you to cut the lights. I can't turn them on while driving. suck but who well.
    but on hindsight, the V6 is cheaper but the V8 is more fun. It's best to find a V8 used because new it seem like they are ripping you off. 55k- 60k for Denali/HlghCountry, Jesus Christ

    Hey Dustin, I've got about 115,000 miles on my 2014, so I thought I'd let you know a little bit about what to watch for. On the vibration issues that some people talk about, I am running Cooper All Terrain 33's right now on stock wheels and I only get vibration if I skip a tire rotation, and apparently it's due to the way they set the front (camber?) I think is what they said. It's really important to keep up on rotations. I've also run the BFGoodrich All Terrains, I like the Coopers better, but I'm going with the BFG KO 2's when I add a lift later this year.
    I've not had any problems with the AC yet and I live in Texas so it's used pretty much all year long, guess I just got lucky and got a good one.
    I've had a slight issue where the cable from the stereo to the USB ports didn't work for a little bit, but then it just started working again and has worked since.
    On replacing your MyLink: I'm planning on upgrading too, after I drove a rental and realized how helpful some of the new features are, so check this video out(it is not cheap but seems easy to do) th-cam.com/video/rTICy16xz0A/w-d-xo.html

      I was looking originally at Rough Country because that's what the dealership used, but then I read concerns for ride quality and wear. I started shopping the other extreme with BDS and realized I ain't made of money. Now I'm landing either at Fabtech or Rough Country. How's your lift? any ride problems? I was thinking 4.5" or 6" with added leaf springs to keep the rake and I carry and tow frequently. I drive over 120 miles for work each day, but it still sees beaches, some rocky terrain, and that nasty texas mud.

    You absolutely should worry about the AFM lifters failing. I have been a diehard chevy guy my whole life. The same goes for my brothers, my dad and my grandfather. The problems started when my brother bought a 2014 Silverado with 70k miles on it here in California. at 77k the check engine light came on and it barely had enough power to get him home, it was also making some weird clicking and grinding noises. he took it to the dealer and it was Barely out of warranty, he had to pay $3,000 to have it fixed, then took it to a custom truck shop and had the AFM cylinder deactivation turned off. Since then its given him no problems, in that regard. The A/C did go out recently at 100k miles but that's not nearly as big of a deal.
    My grandpa also bought a 2014 Silverado in Oklahoma, it had 60k miles on it. At 75k miles his motor did THE EXACT SAME THING that my brothers did. he ALSO had it fixed for just under $3,000 at the chevy dealership. 1500 miles later 2 more lifters collapsed on the other side. chevy refuses to fix it and is insisting that its going to be another $3,300 to fix. They said that since its different lifters than the one that they fixed before it wouldn't be covered under their warranty.
    Bottom line, CHEVROLET makes a defective product. These trucks have a major issue with the AFM lifters and they don't stand by their product. I will NEVER be buying another chevy and neither will my family.

    I have a ‘14 Chevy lt double cab, 5.3l 4x4. Bought it new in spring of 14. Have 99,800 miles on it as of today. I would say it’s the world’s most ok truck. I’ve had about 14 recalls on it. I’ve had problems with the infotainment system off and on, had the throttle body go bad on a road trip, shattered the front differential while trying to pull my neighbor’s 3/4 ton chevy out of a 4 ft snow drift. The positive side: my ac works fine, but don’t use it much in Montana. This thing still handles great even with 100k miles on it. Tows pretty well. Took a 32 ft toy hauler from Montana to the Oregon coast that weighed in at 9,600lbs. Does incredibly well off road during hunting season. Have the diablo tuner on with the afm turned off, as it’s useless here in the Rocky Mountains, cold air intake and cat-back exhaust. Going to run it a couple more years then probably go back to a Trunda. It’s been the best non- Toyota truck I’ve had. Will never touch a dodge again.

    Hey ManI’ve got a 2014 1500. I just started noticing a low/quiet whine in first gear and gets louder as RPMs increase. It is almost unnoticeable in second and then after second gone. Almost sounds like it is stuck in a low gear but shifts fine.
    Have you, or anyone had this experience with their 1500?
    Also at very low speeds the steering “groans” normal or not?
    Here is to being a hypochondriac towards my tuck haha

    Hi good video. I have an 05 yukon SLT w 5.3. Takes canadian winters year after year and has had toyota like dependability and reliability. My
    Only gripe is its mpg. 220,000k. I was looking at a 2012-2014 tahoe/yukon. Whats best year? Id love the newer ones with the nicer materials and gas mileage but have read many issues:( the new stuff doesnt seem to hold a candle to the 05.06 versions. The direct injection ive heard that gives it good gas mileage int he beginning slowly builds carbon up on the insides of the valves and needs to be taken off as early as 30-40 thousand K as the mpg gets worse the more miles get put on the vehicle. They use a machine like a sandblaster but use crushed up walnut shells to remove the carbon since its direct injected. Only new fords and toyotas use a combination of direct injection and port injection to remedy the carbon build up issue. Id still like a newer one but they are just too expensive here in Canada. 75-85 thousand. Way overpriced so i may have to get a 2012-2014 instead.

    Something else worth noting on the 2014 era of GM trucks.
    Vacuum pump failure which causes a loss of power brakes. We’ve had 3 trucks (including mine) with this failure, I suspect gm will eventually issue a recall. Mine became noticeable at low parking lot speeds; I’d go to hit the brakes to crawl through the parking lot and my pedal would go stiff. Eventually it just failed and I had no power brakes.
    Oil burning is still an issue. My truck 2015 with the 5.3 consistently burns about 2 -3 liters or so between oil changes. Some of our other 5.3 liter trucks do the same. I have 150km on my truck and I noticed the issue start around 130km.

    I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD with 140,000 miles. I have already replaced the water pump twice. First symptom was coolant loss with nothing dripping on the pavement. I could smell coolant but did not know where it was coming from. I took it to a mechanic and he told me the water pump was bad. The second time I had coolant loss I added more coolant until I parked it one day then noticed that all the coolant was on the ground. Once again it was the water pump. Now recently I am having coolant loss again. Seems like the water pump is failing every 35,000 miles. Is anyone else having this problem?

    • @DustinT
      @DustinT  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Water pump is something I’ve seen quite a bit. My fathers went out at about 170k I believe on a 5.3. Seems to be not just Chevy specific though

    100% agree I had also air condition issues around 43,000 miles and I got my steering wheel checked because of the recall so both of those for sure did occur by the way is your truck level door lifted if I may ask because my truck is leveled and I recently tried doing 4x4 on a slightly wet road and it started making grinding noise I don't think it's normal is it

    • @DustinT

      I’m having a headache w my 2016 Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3L code: p050d I’m almost sure its injectors. I’ve seen a lot of ppl complain about this issue on blogs about GM. I was hoping to see videos of this problem 14’-18’

  • @jtmartin8445
    @jtmartin8445 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know for sure the early Ls engines with afm on them had issues with the AFM lifters collapsing I mean I just rebuilt the top end of a 5.3l last night. But by looking at the old lifers and the new ones. It looks like they updated them so maybe the newer models won't have the same problem as often.

    This is my 3rd Silverado, Same truck you are showing and it sounds like a running sewing machine when it sits at Idle. It's mostly heard on the driver side almost sounds like injectors. Everyone says it's just normal on these models but I dont think so haha have only had it about 3 weeks so haven't really traced exact source down yet.

    That truck is still new. Just wait a few years, and it will literally fall apart. However, so will Rams and Fords. You just can't buy a decent American truck anymore. Nissan is also junk, which only leaves the Toyota Tundra. It's not perfect either, but it's the best available

      I can't help it if American auto manufactures are building junk. My 1979 Chevy is doing just fine. It was bought new by my dad, and later inherited by me. The body is rock solid and will last forever. It is on it's second engine and transmission (currently at 438,000 miles) but they were dirt cheap to replace. Super easy truck to work on. No electronics of any kind.

      No shit Sherlock.......
      No electronics yes , and also not fancy interior , no air bags, standard cab , etc....
      Its like comparing apples to oranges . Old trucks are great , but if you think its better than a new truck you’re crazy.
      We have a 1972 Blazer , original paint , original drivetrain. It will pull trophy’s at car shows, and it still tows our Boats regularly. But I would trade in it a second for a new truck if it came to it.

    Most common issues with 1500s . Trailer brake wiring / module , brake control module reprograms and vacuum booster replacements , as stated the a/c condenser, leaking shark fin antennas , some torque converter issues , stabilatrack due to wheel speed sensor or abs sensor failure.

    I have a 2015 bought it new and now have 75,000 miles on it the first real problem I had was at 38.000 miles the rack went out and it has been a documented problem with these vehicles. two other minor issues I have had was the steering lock is broken. When the key is shut off you can still turn the wheel and there is a tinny sounding noise as it turns. The other is also with the steering but is the return spring on the tilt, it does not lift the wheel back up.
