I thought I would have to buy this game again on steam. Your directions were perfect. Thanks you made an old school gamers day.
I know you made this a year ago but a HUGE thank you from an old Gothic Fan for this. I've been trying to get it working using these very downloads but could not for the life of me to get it working because it was never explained exactly which ones were needed. Again thank you!

It's really unfortunate that a lot of old games need a bit of a messing around to get them working, but I'm glad to see you're willing to go through the (sometimes really annoying) process. So far I held back on recommending a lot of favorite older games of mine because of them not being "install and play", good to know that they can be recommended as well, with a short instruction on how to get them running too, of course.
Maybe it is an option to get an old pc that isn't connected to the internet, installed with windows 7, lot of those games you can play without internet so get older windows versions to play them on.

I know this video is old but 3 things i liked to add to my gothic 2 play was the paladin helmet closed visor mod and for the dragon hunter heavy armor was the helmet mod with the two blades on the side like in the concept art, and for mage you can get a mage buff mod, so much more fun!
Gothic is extremely popular in Europe, but somehow underrated in anglosphere, thanks for promoting it! It's fun to watch your blind playthrough (: my beginnings were way more rough tho, you seem to have experience with old clunky games :p
I'm pretty good with computers and I still had a hard time trying to figure this out. I tried going to the ini, I thought maybe the resolution was causing problems, compatibility modes, etc. I'm sure there's other ways to run this game but this is definitely the best. Thanks Lilia
There is also a dx11 patch that adds realtime lighting and Tessellation, you can also enable quicksaving in the ini, but it not good to completely rely on it.
thank you for the video but do you use controller or keyboard and mouse to play the game? I find it very hard to know what is best. Did you rebind the keys or you use default settings?

Hmm, it's possible that it will work without patching but I'd follow Lilia's advice here. Gothic 1 worked straight from gog for me >but< I had to make adjustment because it was too dark. These old games were designed to be viewed on ancient CRT monitors, not the beautiful ones we have now.
My install and ok buttons are greyed out when trying to install these... What am I doing wrong?! Edit: I, a dingus, had uninstalled and forgotten to reinstall the game, but for some reason the folder remained. I'm a dingus. IT WORKED. Thank you!

Ran Gothic 2 to check if it worked a while a go. Seemed to run fine from gog.
